Located in Empordà (Catalonia), the region where creative geniuses such as Dalí

and Muntaner were born, CALMA, one of the Spain’s best known name in

contemporary outdoor furniture, gets inspiration from its own DNA and roots,

benefiting therefore from being part of the multifaceted Mediterranean world. Set

up in 2014, it has always strived to keep in tune with changing styles and needs

but remaining always true to its founding values of quality, innovation and

originality in design. Furnishing items are therefore fun and distinctive, fruit of

their peculiar approach of the brand to outdoor lifestyle and design.

Cutting-edge technology and materials, most of them made in Spain such as the

top-resistance porcelain-ceramic surfaces, stay at the core of every business

project.

CALMA’s collections encompass a wide choice of styles and products (seating,

tables, sun loungers and sunshades) that can be configured in different ways and

sizes in order to fit perfectly different types of patios, gardens or balconies.

CALMA shows at the major international trade fairs, such as the Maison & Objet

in Paris, Spoga+Gafa in Cologne and Il Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan.

In 2015, CALMA has won the prestigious RED DOT: Best of Best Award for the

greound-breaking design of the OM sun shade, a creation of the young designer

Andreu Carulla for the brand.

Beatriz Sempere

plisplasdesigner

She moved to Italy where she kept on projecting furnishing accessories that

combined the Spanish tradition with a taste for more refined and harmonious

designs, yet linear and geometric at times. In the latest year, she has strengthened

her collaboration with CALMA, a brand that leaves her free to experiment with

forms, materials, innovative manufacturing processes and finishes. Other notable

collaborations include BlackTie, Loop&Co, Italcomma, ICONSfurniture, MIDJ and

the Italian designers Franco Poli and Pier Luigi Frighetto. In 2014, together with

Franco Poli, Beatriz founded the Sempere#Poli Design Studio.

Beatriz draws inspirations from lively and dynamic spaces. Her final objective is to

evoke emotions, and to carry it out she strives to create items which are different in

appearance but share the same essence: a combination of creativity, technology

and functionality. The PLIS PLAS chair is a clear exemplification of her personal

vision of design.

Born in Alicante (Spain) in 1975 and

graduated in Industrial Design at the

Polytechnic University in Valencia,

Beatriz Sempere specialized in

footwear design at the Technology

Education Center in Elche. Soon

afterwards she started a fruitful

collaboration with major companies of

the sector, such as Bata, Melluso,

Lumberjack, Zen, Astor Müller,

Panama Jack and Freemood. Her

real interest, however, was house

planning and all the issues related to

habitability. Forms and the way they

can complete the architecture of

interior spaces became the focus of

her personal research in that field.

Starting from a 2mm polycarbonate board, with just a simple fold we change from 2D to

3D, obtaining an enveloping seat shell. The perimeter cut allows to get the standard

configuration, but we can also add some extra cuts to obtain endless variations in shape

and size. Once you have chosen the final shape, it’s time to personalize the look: you

may choose among a plain coloured PC board (white or transparent) and a 3mm

polyethylene board in red. Corporate logos, photos and bespoken designs are also

possible.
