TAMI TEE DRESS Size 2T-3TINSTRUCTIONS AND TIPS Waist: 20-22, Height 32-34

skill level: BEGINNER

This boatneck tee dress has just two pieces. Ive provided a few variations: Choose roll or cap sleeveson the Basic Version , or get all le French punk rockwith the graphic Triangle Version.

FABRICS: Any stretchy, medium-weight fabric will do fine. Check your scrap box and the remnant bins,

cos 3/4 yard will be plenty. Consider hacking up some old tee shirts and for the Triangle Version,

throw in a piece of stretch lace, stretchy sheer or bathing suit scrap for the contrast. One note about

working with tee or cotton/Lycra blends: they like to roll. Keep your iron handy to press the fabric as

you work to keep it flat. MATERIALS: Two buttons and/or two ribbon scraps for the rolled sleeves.

LAYOUT and CUTTING:

Wash and dry your fabric before you cut so that its pre-shrunk. There are two size options: a longer

version for 3T and shorter for 2T. If youre not sure, cut the longer one.

length indicated on

the pattern.

otherwise noted.

BASIC VERSIONNECKLINE. (Shortcut alert! I know the neck is an odd place to start, but Mommys all about

simplification. Trust me.)With right sides together, stitch the dress front (A) to dress back (B) at one

shoulder seam (not both), and bind the seam. Press theseam toward the back and apply a row of topstitching very close to the seam. Next, turn the neckline

under ! inch, clipping it at the curves use your hot, steamy iron to press it down. Topstitch the neck

seam in place with 2 rows, each " inch apart. Then, complete the other shoulder seam, stitching the

dress front (A) to dress back (B) and bind it.

For the TriangleVersion,cut the cap

sleeve version of

B and cut the

desired length.

Use a scrap for

contrast D.

SIDESEAMS. With right sides together, stitch front (A) to back (B)

at the sides. Take that armpit curve slow, especially if youve

chosen cap sleeves. Clip the armpit curve and reinforce the seam

with another row of stitches on top of the first. (That curve tends

to unravel.) Bind the seams.

SLEEVES. If you chose cap sleeves, turn the sleeve edges under ! inch and press.

Then stitch them in place with two rows of topstitching, as you did at the neck. For

the rolled sleeve, leave the edge raw. Like sushi.Turn the dress right side out. Fold the

sleeves up twice, about # each fold, and pin them in place. Tack* the sleeve in place

at the armpit.

Stitch a button on the shoulder at the fold, OR wrap a 2-

inch piece of ribbon around the shoulder seam, stitching

its ends in place on the shoulder seam; OR do both!

FINISH ER UP. Turn the hem under 1 inch(or more if you want it shorter) and use two rows of topstitching to finish it, roughly

5/8 and 7/8 inch from the edge.

TRIANGLE VERSION (See images above for reference)DRESS FRONT. With right sides together, stitch the front middle (D) to front bottom (E) and bind the

seam with zig-zag and press. Then stitch the assembly (D/E) to the front top (C), bind the seam and

press.

NECKLINE. With right sides together, stitch the dress front (D) to dress back (B) at one shoulder seam(not both), and bind the seam. Next, turn the neckline under ! inch, clipping it at the curves use your

hot, steamy iron to press it down. Topstitch the neck seam in place with 2 rows, each " inch apart.

Then, complete the other shoulder seam, stitching the dress front (D) to dress back (B) and bind it.

SLEEVES. (I know! You seasoned sewers may be rolling your eyes. The kids going to be wearing the

dress about seven minutes from now.)Turn the sleeve edges under ! inch and press. Then stitch them

in place with two rows of topstitching, as you did at the neck.

SIDESEAMS. With right sides together, stitch front (C/D/E) to back (B) at the sides. Take that armpit

curve slow, especially if youve chosen cap sleeves. Clip the armpit curve and reinforce the seam with

another row of stitches on top of the first. (That curve tends to unravel.) Bind the seams.

FINISH IT UP. Turn the hem under 1 inch (or more if you want it shorter) and use two rows of

topstitching to finish it, roughly 5/8 and 7/8 inch from the edge.

* What's tackmean? There are several different tailoring meanings, but in this case, its a couple of tiny stitches that keep

something in place. Imagine the stitches used to sew on a button, but without the button.
