THE ORTO CARBURETOR YES

For the use and consumption of my seven loyal readers (I thought there were 4 but I discovered thereare 7) I want to talk about the carburetor

of the garden YES

This carburetor is in use on most of our wasps since 1958, in different diameters but basically alwaysthe same.

Let's start with page 59 of the garden catalog

Page 2: T H E O RTO C A R B U R E TO R Y E S · 2021. 4. 22. · T h e us ua l ma l i c i ous pe opl e wi l l s ay t h a t t h e pi n mus t a l s o be re pl a c e d , i t i s a l mos t t

quite interesting I would say, but much more interesting, in my opinion, is the diagram of the SIcarburetor, taken from the Piaggio workshop manual: and above all the exploded view, which willaccompany us throughout the thread

Page 4: T H E O RTO C A R B U R E TO R Y E S · 2021. 4. 22. · T h e us ua l ma l i c i ous pe opl e wi l l s ay t h a t t h e pi n mus t a l s o be re pl a c e d , i t i s a l mos t t

but let's look at a carburetor from life starting from the "main" parts

Page 5: T H E O RTO C A R B U R E TO R Y E S · 2021. 4. 22. · T h e us ua l ma l i c i ous pe opl e wi l l s ay t h a t t h e pi n mus t a l s o be re pl a c e d , i t i s a l mos t t

the numbers correspond to the Piaggio exploded view above

32  is the starter control (air) 35  is the gas valve control (guillotine) 50  is the idle regulator 43  it is a strange screw that the garden forgot to put fixed at 2.5 turns and made it adjustable .... whata strange thing; however it is the screw that regulates the flow of the mixture (7 in the diagram) 12  is the "minimum" jet 13  is the "maximum" jet 99  is the medium jet no, this jet does not exist, but a jet is still missing , where will it ever be? mumblemumble ...

therefore to find the hidden jet we have to remove the turret  19  by unscrewing the two screws  17 and  25 attention, the screw  25  is longer than the screw  17 , let's remember it then when we reassemble it,after removing the two screws the turret comes off, and here is the jet that we were looking for: 40  jetof the starter since we have removed the turret we continue to disassemble it by unscrewing the screwof the cover  20  and the screw of the pipette of the pipe  27 in the green circle the pin 28  of the float ishighlighted  , pushing it away we will free the float  45  and the needle  41

The paper gasket  31  is numbered in yellow because it will need to be replaced.

The usual malicious people will say that the pin must also be replaced, it is almost true , but it is notpresent in the kit that supplies the garden and must be bought separately ...

we continue to disassemble ....

by unscrewing the screw  20  you can remove the cover  22  and below appears the filter of the fuel  24; to remove this filter, gently lever with a small screwdriver in the point highlighted by the green arrow

Page 10: T H E O RTO C A R B U R E TO R Y E S · 2021. 4. 22. · T h e us ua l ma l i c i ous pe opl e wi l l s ay t h a t t h e pi n mus t a l s o be re pl a c e d , i t i s a l mos t t

therefore summarizing: 17  short screw TE turret fixing 18  elastic washer (2) 19  turret body 20  screwTT turret cover 21  gasket 22  turret cover 23  cover gasket (under the cover) 24  fuel filter 25  longscrew TE turret fixing 26  gasket gasoline admission pipette 27  TE pipette screw 28  float pin 29 pipette screw gasket 30  pipette 31  tank lid gasket 41  pin

45  Floating dismantle now these 2 details highlighted by green circles concernednientepopodimenochè: 43  spring mixture adjusting screw to a minimum 44  screw mixture adjustmentto the minimum 49  spring the idle adjustment screw 50  of the idle screw NB the screw  44  should beadjusted !!! we have now arrived at the three jets, which you have already unscrewed the main jet,

Page 12: T H E O RTO C A R B U R E TO R Y E S · 2021. 4. 22. · T h e us ua l ma l i c i ous pe opl e wi l l s ay t h a t t h e pi n mus t a l s o be re pl a c e d , i t i s a l mos t t

which looks like a single piece, is actually made up of three pieces, just pull to break it down, that is:then: 10 main  jet 11  emulsifier 12  calibrator  13

Page 13: T H E O RTO C A R B U R E TO R Y E S · 2021. 4. 22. · T h e us ua l ma l i c i ous pe opl e wi l l s ay t h a t t h e pi n mus t a l s o be re pl a c e d , i t i s a l mos t t

idle jet 40  jet of the starter

then if you are good, at the end of the thread I will also put a table with all the jets of the SI carburetorsmounted on the various wasps

Now unscrew these screws

and break it down as follows:

Page 16: T H E O RTO C A R B U R E TO R Y E S · 2021. 4. 22. · T h e us ua l ma l i c i ous pe opl e wi l l s ay t h a t t h e pi n mus t a l s o be re pl a c e d , i t i s a l mos t t

pay attention to when we pull out the guillotine from its seat:

Page 17: T H E O RTO C A R B U R E TO R Y E S · 2021. 4. 22. · T h e us ua l ma l i c i ous pe opl e wi l l s ay t h a t t h e pi n mus t a l s o be re pl a c e d , i t i s a l mos t t

have we taken everything apart? No, a piece is still missing ... piece n ° 39 .... to find it we turn thecarburettor body here it is: now it's time for the overhaul you will have, I hope, already obtained the kit:then throw all the numbered parts yellow (they come out of the kit) and wash everything else carefullywith petrol; blow all the parts with compressed air, especially the jets and all the fuel passages of thecarburetor body; in the case of very stubborn and stubborn dirt, it can be soaked in nitro diluent. Nowwe just have to reassemble everything .... are you able to "number" the last photo?
