(IREDA), a Government of India Enterprise. The MoU provides areas of cooperation between the two companies for working jointly on project to project basis in the Renewable Energy Sector. The MoU was signed by our Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. K. K. Kapila, and Managing Director of IREDA, Mr. Debashish Majumdar. Thus we took the first step towards diversification in this upcoming sector. The African continent in its developmental pursuits is generating enormous demands for infrastructure and 'appropriate', 'adaptable', and 'affordable' technologies, products and services. African countries are also recipients of major funding from multilateral and regional funding agencies as well as Government of India. A Conclave on “India - Africa nd th Project Partnerships 2005” was held from 2 to 4 March 2005 at New Delhi. Mr. Prashant Kapila and Mr. Saurabh Khanna represented ICT in this Conclave to explore the business opportunities. I hope you enjoyed holi, our festival of colors, fun and buoyancy. The nature has cast off winter's gloom and welcomed spring. With the onset of spring, the Gulmohar and Mango trees have begun to flower in glorious colors red, pink, orange, golden, yellow and green. Let us wish and hope that spring gets extended so that we do not have to face the scorching and sweltering heat of Delhi. Well if wishes were horses, beggars would be riders!! Our ICT Testing Laboratory, recently accredited by NABL, has been nominated as the Nodal Laboratory of NABL for conducting proficiency Testing programme on “Testing of Aggregates”. Under this programme, about 20 to 25 accredited / applicant Laboratories are expected to participate. Well, this is a great honor and speaks high of the quality work our Laboratory is performing. If it keeps up its quest for quality and continues to excel in performance, it may find itself nominated as Nodal Laboratory for International Testing Programmes as well. Our best wishes to ICT Testing Laboratory!! th The third Surveillance Audit of our Corporate office was held on 6 April 2005. DNV, our Certification Company, has launched a new and unique approach to auditing that takes account of risks to an organisation and focuses on the business objectives. Inspite of this new approach, we have done it again - NO non-conformity for the Sixth time in running!! Maintaining ourselves at that height is certainly going to be dizzy and will increase the gravitational force!! All the same, a big “thank you” to all the HODs and their teams for their excellent performance. Keep up the good work!! A “Centre for FIDIC Studies” has been set up to carryout training relating to FIDIC Conditions of Contract. Federation Internationale des Ingenieurs-Conseils (FIDIC), the premier international organisation for Consulting Engineers based in Switzerland, has entered into an Agreement with a Joint-Venture constituted of CEAI, CDC and ICT for this purpose. The Centre will initially carryout training activities in India, and will later extend its operations to cover the region of neighbouring countries as well. This is the first Centre of its kind set up in the Region, and will go a long way to promote proper understanding and application of FIDIC Condition in execution of infrastructural projects. Will it dissolve?” “No, Sir,” spoke up one student very promptly. “No?” asked the demonstrator. “Perhaps, you'll explain to the class why it won't dissolve.” “Because,” came the answer, “if it would, you wouldn't drop it in.” ! An elderly woman walked up to an old man rocking in a chair. Though he looked weathered and feeble, he had a smile on his face. “I couldn't help noticing how happy you look,” she said. “What's your secret for a happy life?” “ Well, I smoke three packs of cigarettes a day,” he said, waving a wrinkled hand through the air, with a smoldering cigarette between his thumb and finger. “I also drink a case of whiskey a week, eat fatty foods, and never exercise.” “That's amazing!” said the woman, “So, how old are you?” “Twenty Six,” the young - old man replied. Kudos ! Ms. Niyati Tandon, Trainee Engineer has been awarded a gold medal for securing st 1 position in Visveswaraiah Technological University, Belgaum, Karnataka, in B.E. (Transportation Engineering 2004) examination. Well done and keep it up, Niyati. Our heartiest congratulations. ! A paper titled “Construction Opportunities And Challenges Of Working In Middle-East-Kuwait : A Case Study”, authored by Mr. R. C. Kehar, was published in “Civil Engineering & Construction Review” Journal, Volume : 17 , Issue : 2, February 2005. ! A technical paper titled “Roller Compacted Concrete Construction Technique for Rigid Pavement Projects” authored by Dr. S. S. / Survey on Collection of Domestic Tourism Statistics for the state of Assam. Client : Government of India, Department of Tourism

This study involves survey and listing of important places of tourism in Assam and the accommodation available at these places. Study will also include information on nationality of tourists, occupancy rate of available tourists beds in accommodation units, expenditure of Govt. on promotion of tourism in state and such related surveys

Projects Awarded

The above Conclave was organized by the Confederation of Industry (CII) along with the EXIM Bank of India nd thand the African Development Bank in New Delhi from 2 to 4 March, 2005 .

The objectives of the Conclave were to enable India emerge as a key partner in Africa's development process;

Identify specific project opportunities for partnership between African countries and India; Project Indian

capabilities in different fields; Facilitate individualized business discussion between African and Indian

participants; Explore options of fund mobilization for identified projects and Catalyse large scale

participation of Indian SMEs in African Project opportunities. Mr. Prashant Kapila, Director (Technical) and

Mr. Saurabh Khanna participated and were eyes and ears of our Company at the Conclave.

The interaction at the Conclave has been quite encouaging and our representatives are feeling assured of

brighter prospects for ICT.

Delegations led by Ministers in many cases, were from Benin, Cameroon, Chad, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana,

Kenya, Mali, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, etc. There were also

representatives from the funding Agencies, viz. African Development Bank, PTA Bank, East African

Development Bank, etc.

/ Consultancy Services for Quality Assurance and Technical Audit for implementation of year three of Multi Year rolling maintenance programme of the Kerala State Transport Project. Client : Public Works Department, Government of Kerala

The Govt. of India has earmarked a part of the loan received from International Bank of Reconstruction and Development for Kerala State Transport Project towards cost of major maintenance and periodical renewal of about 1000 km of State Highways and MDRs. The present project involves providing of Technical Audit services for 328.8 km of roads comprising 17 contract packages and also providing appropriate training to PWD Engineers.
