PREVENTIVE MEASURES All practicable measures shall be implemented wherever applicable, but not limited to the following: a) By enclosure of the plant used in the process; b) By removal or prevention of accumulation of the dust, gas, vapour or substance; c) By exclusion or effective enclosure of possible sources of ignition; and d) By the use of suitable flame-proof equipment. Before hot works/ welding commence, the following shall be adhere to: Hot Works shall be carried out at Designated Hot Work Area. Otherwise, Hot Work Permit system procedures shall be applied before any hot work is carried out. Welders must ensure that the welding work area is free from hazardous material such as flammable solvent, explosive material etc. Area must be well ventilated with natural ventilation and fan/ exhaust duct. Workers must understand the welding equipment; have the knowledge and skill to perform the task. New welders must have proper supervision and guidance. All equipment is inspected prior to use, that equipment is in good operating order and that the appropriate controls have been put in place in accordance with the Hot Work Permit. Employees exposed to the hazards created by welding, cutting, or brazing operations shall use heat resistant apron, sleeves and gloves that are appropriate for hot work operations. Protective Screens shall be put in place to protect persons from the visual effects of viewing arc welding or cutting and during gas or oxygen cutting or welding. In case of fire caused by welding / hot work process, do not panic. Use the nearest fire extinguisher or hose reel to put out the fire. Page 1 of 1

Ensure that fire protection and extinguishing equipment are properly located at the work location.

Fire extinguishing equipment shall be readily available and be trained in its use.

Ensure combustibles are protected from sources of ignition. Secure authorization for the cutting or welding operations from the designated management representative.

PERMIT-To-WORK SYSTEM FOR HOT WORKS Any person performing jobs that involve hot work shall apply a Permit from the Supervisor concerned, before the commencement of the job. A Hot Work Permit must be completed any time an activity involves the use of an open flame or spark producing equipment. Such activities include, but not limited to, welding, cutting, brazing, burning, grinding and soldering operations.
