TRANSCRIPT
Dear Sunnyslope Families,
It has been an incredible year
full of learning! Most recently,
I had the opportunity to see
our fifth graders shine bright
at Camp Seymour. We are so
proud of your children for
taking risks by trying new
things. It seems zip lining,
canoeing and exploring
reptiles were the favorite
activities this year!
Sunnyslope staff continues to
connect learning to
enrichment opportunities for
our students. This includes
visiting the Tacoma Art
Museum, Point Defiance Zoo,
Mount Saint Helens, and the
Museum of Flight. As a
result, our Super Stars have
been fantastic scientists and
artists. We are so grateful
for our amazing Sunnyslope
Community helping
chaperone these events.
I hope your children have
been sharing about their
learning.
As we prepare for next year,
staff will be working hard on
class placement. If you
would like to share parent
input for placement, please
write me a note or send me
an email with the following
information: Your child’s
name, grade next year, and
Principal’s Message
Congratulations to our 5th Graders! Our celebration this year will be June 17th at 2:00 pm

South Kitsap School District announced that Olalla and Sunnyslope Elementary schools, and Cedar Heights, John Sedgwick and Marcus Whitman Middle Schools have been recognized as Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished Schools for providing broad access to transformative learning opportunities for students through PLTW LaunchTM (elementary) and PLTW GatewayTM (middle school).
The PLTW Distinguished School recognition honors schools committed to increasing student access, engagement, and achievement in their PLTW programs. Through PLTW programs, students develop STEM knowledge as well as in-demand, transportable skills that they will use both in school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take.
“It is a great honor to recognize South Kitsap School District schools for their commit-ment to students,” said Vince Bertram, President and CEO of PLTW. “They are a model for what school should look like, and they should be very proud of ensuring students have the knowledge and skills to be career ready and successful on any career path they choose.

Sunnyslope Elementary Dress Code -Clothing worn by students should be functional, neat, clean, presentable, and provide adequate coverage.
-Clothing that includes disruptive language or that advertises gang affiliation, sex, drugs and/or alcohol is not acceptable.
-Short shorts (shorter than the mid portion of the upper leg), short skirts, halter tops, tube tops, spaghetti strap shirts, tank tops less than 3 finger widths wide, and "sagging" pants (loosely fitted pants which are not adequately tightened at the waistline) are not considered appropriate attire for school.
-Clothing should cover the midriff at all times without exposing undergarments.
-For safety reasons, footwear must be sturdy and cover the foot in order to protect feet during PE and recess activities (flip flops, sandals, open toed shoes, and high heels are not allowed).
-Unnatural hair color (purple, green, blue, orange, Crayola red, etc.) creates attention and focus on appearance other than learning and should be discouraged.
-Hats may only be worn to and from school and at recess but may not be worn in the building.
-Dangling and hoop earrings may be worn in the classroom only. Student must remove the earrings before participating in P.E. classes and before going to recess.
-Face painting and the application of glitter detracts from learning and is not appropriate for school.
Staff has the ability to determine if clothing/appearance is disruptive to the school environment. Students who are dressed inappropriately will be asked to cover or change their clothing, or be sent home. During cold and variable
weather students should have warm clothing since they spend a part of every day in outside play.
