ST. JAMES THE APOSTLE CATHOLIC CHURCH MISSION STATEMENT

Rooted in the Catholic Faith, in order to build up the reign of God, the mission of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church is to live out the message of Jesus Christ by worshipping God by serving the world.

Reminder: If you would like to use your debit/credit card for your weekly offering, please stop by the church office. You can also set up automatic deposits from your bank to the church.

    BEARERS OF THE WORD

The Church has placed a number of notable feast days immediately after Christmas. The feasts of Stephen, John the Evangelist, and the Holy Innocents form a summary of the life lived in Christ, the Word made flesh. What do these have to do with the feast of the Holy Family, which crowns the Octave of Christmas? These feasts remind us that suf-fering will occur in fulfilling the mission of Christ, and that we are all called to be bearers of this Word whose birth we celebrate. We also see this manifested in the lives of Joseph and Mary, both of whom took social and religious risks in obe-dience to the will of God, and both of whom were open to the word of God sent to them from on high. In these ways they prefigured the life of Jesus himself. Most likely, few of us found ourselves at Mass this past Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, but the essence of these feasts and the essence of the holiness of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus remain central, a holiness we celebrate today. copyright © J. Las Vegas Chapter of Lay Dominicans Did you know that the Dominicans also have a Third Order, known as Tertiaries? These followers of St. Dominic strive to grow in spiritual-ity by showing their love and service to their parish family and the community at large. Through prayer and study they are able to grow in the ways of St Dominic., St. Thomas, and St. Catherine of Siena.

If you have ever had questions about the Third Order of Lay Domini-cans, the Las Vegas Chapter typically meets on the last Saturday of each month at 9:00 a.m. at the St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center on the campus of UNLV. The Director of the UNLV Campus Ministry, Fr. Daniel Rolland, O.P., is their Spiritual Director. For more infor-mation or to join the Lay Order of Preachers, please visit our website at http://bartololongo.org

Why Register In the Church Many people attend Mass here at our church, but are not registered parishioners. It is important to be registered and use your offering enve-lopes so that if you ever request a letter, whether it’s for being a godpar-ent, sponsor, marriage, confirmation, tax statement or any other purpose, we can check our records and see that you attend Mass here. This would also benefit you if you would like to have your child enrolled in next year’s Religious Education Program. If you are not registered in the church, we cannot issue or sign any type of letter stating that you are a member of the parish, even if you attend Mass here. If you would like to register and receive offering envelopes, you must complete our registration form. You may also use the parishioner’s updated form (green) located on the church lobby shelf for any changes to your address, email or phone number. If you have any questions, please contact the office.
