Faithful Departed Question: How can we pray for the dead throughout the year? Answer: We commemorate the faithful departed on November 2nd each year. However, we can and should continue to pray for the dead. Our growth in Christian perfection takes a long time. At the time of our death, many of us might not be saints yet. But God, in His mercy, allows for those who love Him to experience purification after death. Our word for that state is Purgatory. It’s the antechamber of heaven, so to speak. We know we’re getting in the house, but we’re not quite ready to go all the way in. There’s rain to shake off our coats and dirt that’s clogging our shoes. Here on earth, we can pray for the souls in Purgatory. One way is to request that your parish offer a Mass for the inten-tion of a specific loved one. We can also remember the de-parted in our daily prayers. Just as we have special inten-tions for family and friends here on earth, we can pray for those who have died. It’s also a good act of Christian chari-ty to pray for the forgotten, those who have no one else to pray for them. God knows who they are! ©LPi

Pregunta:

¿Cómo podemos orar por los muertos durante todo el año?

Respuesta:

Conmemoramos a los fieles que partieron el 2 de noviembre de cada año. Sin embargo, podemos y debemos continuar orando por los muertos. Nuestro crecimiento en la perfección cristiana lleva mucho tiempo. En el momento de nuestra muerte, mu-chos de nosotros podríamos no ser santos todavía. Pero Dios, en Su misericordia, permite que aquellos que lo aman experi-menten la purificación después de la muerte. Nuestra palabra para ese estado es Purgatorio. Es la antecámara del cielo, por así decirlo. Sabemos que estamos entrando en la casa, pero no estamos listos para llegar hasta el final. Hay lluvia para sacudir nuestros abrigos y suciedad que está obstruyendo nuestros zapatos.

Aquí en la tierra, podemos orar por las almas en el Purgatorio. Una forma es solicitar que su parroquia ofrezca una misa por la intención de un ser querido específico. También podemos recordar a los difuntos en nuestras oraciones diarias. Así como tenemos intenciones especiales para la familia y los amigos aquí en la tierra, podemos orar por aquellos que han muerto. También es un buen acto de caridad cristiana orar por los olvidados, aquellos que no tienen a nadie más para orar por ellos. ¡Dios sabe quiénes son!

ST. GENEVIEVE PARISH Synod 2021 - 2023

Pope Francis has formally declared that the XVI Synod of Bishops will take place between 2021 and 2023. It will be known as “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission. “The Holy Father has also asked that all dioceses around the world participate and to include the local parishes. Accordingly, Bishop Peter Baldacchino wishes to engage the Christian Faithful of the Diocese of Las Cruces to hear their concerns and assess the needs of the people of the Diocese of Las Cruces. This will assist in establishing priorities for the Diocese for the next five years. The Diocesan Synod will include two parishioners from each parish in the Diocese to serve as members of the Synod. St. Genevieve Parish will be represented by David Rall and Sal Estrada who were appointed by Fr. Theophine Okafor. They will facilitate the process of discernment and will conduct consultative sessions with parishioners. Next listening and dialogue meeting is scheduled Saturday 22 January 2022 1:00 PM. The meeting will take place at our Parish Hall. All parishioners will be informed by notices in the church announcements, the church bulletin, through the parish website and in flock notes. Be on the lookout for these notices because it is important that we hear the voices of as many of the faithful as possible. Again, please do join us! Saturday January 22, 2022 1:00 PM

PARROQUIA DE SANTA GENOVEVA Sínodo 2021 - 2023

El Papa Francisco ha declarado formalmente que el XVI Sínodo de los Obispos tendrá lugar entre 2021 y 2023. Será conocido como "Por una Iglesia sinodal: Comunión, Participación y Misión". El Santo Padre también ha pedido que todas las diócesis del mundo participen e incluyan a las parroquias locales. En consecuencia, el Obispo Peter Baldacchino desea involucrar a los fieles cristianos de la Diócesis de Las Cruces para escuchar sus preocupaciones y evaluar las necesidades de la gente de la Diócesis de Las Cruces.
