Please read all instructions before beginning. Pre-washing not recommended.

Yardages and Cutting WOF is 42" width of fabric from selvage edge to selvage edge. LOF is length of fabric, parallel to the selvage edges.

1 Sun Valley panel • Trim to 23" x 42 1/2", keeping the Kokopelli section centered. 2 ¼ yards Tucson stripe Refer to the quilt image for the section of stripe used

for the border. Begin cutting each strip at the left edge

of the green stripe and then cut 7 1/2" across the

width of the fabric.

• 8 identical strips 7 1/2" x WOF for borders

1 yard Kokopelli print • Fussy cut (12) 5 1/8” squares, centering an image in each one.

1 yard pottery print • Fussy cut (14) 5 1/8” squares, centering an image in each one. 1 1/4 yards teal tonal hand-dye • 4 strips 2 1/4" x WOF; trim into (2) each 42 1/2" and 26 1/2" lengths for panel framing. • 5 strips 1 3/4" x WOF for third border. • 8 strips 2 1/4" x WOF for binding. 1 yard orange texture • 6 strips 4 1/4" x WOF; cut into (52) 4 1/4” squares. Cut each square diagonally in half once, for a total of 104 triangles. 5 yards of 42" backing fabric • 2 pieces 90" x WOF. OR 2 1/4 yards wide backing fabric • 1 piece 71" x 90" Batting • 1 piece 71" x 90"

Making the Blocks Use a 1/4" seam allowance for all stitching. Press seams as directed.

1. Sew a 4 1/4" orange triangle to two opposite sides of a Kokopelli square. Press the seams toward the square.

Sew a 4 1/4” orange triangle to the other two sides of the square, and press seams toward the square. Trim block (if necessary) to 7” square. Repeat to make a total of 12 Kokopelli blocks, and 14 pottery blocks

Completing the Quilt Refer to the exploded quilt diagram throughout the following steps.

1. Sew the 2 1/4" x 42 1/2" teal strips to the long sides of the panel. Press seams toward the strips. Stitch the

2 1/4" x 26 1/2" strips to the top and bottom. Press seams toward the strips.

2. Paying attention to the orientation of the blocks, stitch (4) pottery blocks and (3) Kokopelli blocks together to make a pieced side border. Repeat to make a second side border, referencing the exploded quilt diagram for placement. Sew the pieced borders to the long sides of the framed panel. Press seams toward the framed center.

3. Paying attention to the orientation of the blocks, stitch (3) pottery blocks and (3) Kokopelli blocks together to

make a pieced top border. Repeat to make the pieced bottom border. Sew the pieced borders to the top and bottom. Press seams toward the framed center.

4. Sew (3) 1 3/4” x WOF teal hand-dye strips short ends together to make a long strip. Press seams to one side.

Cut into (2) 59" strips. Stitch to the long sides of the framed quilt center. Press seams toward the strips. Sew the remaining 1 3/4" x 42" teal hand-dye strips to the top and bottom. Press seams toward the strips.

5. Sew 2 border stripe strips short ends together to make a long strip, matching the print at the seam to make a

continuous stripe pattern. Press seam to one side. Repeat to make a second pieced strip. Cut (2) 82" lengths from the pieced strips for side borders.

6. Sew the (2) remaining border stripe strips short ends together to make a long strip, matching the print at the

seams. Press seams to one side. Repeat to make a second pieced strip. Cut (2) 62” lengths from the pieced strips for the top and bottom borders.

7. Center and stitch 7 1/2" x 82” Tucson stripe strips to opposite long sides of the quilt center, beginning, ending and locking stitches 1/4" from the corners of the quilt center. Repeat with the 7 1/2" x 62" strips on the top and bottom edges. Miter corners using your favorite method, checking to be sure that the stripe sections match and all corners lie flat. Trim mitered corner seams to 1/4" and press open. Press border seams toward the border strips.

8. If using 42" backing fabric, remove the selvage edges from the backing pieces. Join the pieces on the long edges with a 1/2" seam allowance. Press seam open. Trim to make a 71" x 90" backing piece.

9. Layer the top with the backing and batting pieces. Quilt as desired. Trim batting and backing even with the top.

10. Join the teal hand-dye binding strips on the short ends with diagonal seams to make a long strip. Press seams in one direction. Press the strip in half along the length with wrong sides together.

11. Bind the quilt edges using your favorite method to complete the quilt.
