Summer carnival lights up Queensland

This is the first Summer Carnival of the new Racing Queensland and we are very excited to be reopening the Toowoomba Turf Club and its new turf track on New Years Eve, December 31, 2013.

I believe this night will become an integral part of our Summer Carnival in the coming years, as a night of racing and celebration in the lead up to the culmination of our carnival at the Magic Millions raceday.

As always with any carnival in Queensland, our weather will be one of the highlights, with the Summer Carnival having that unique holiday feel to it.

The quality of racing during the carnival will be excellent with the climaxes including:

• Magic Millions Cup

• Magic Millions Maiden

• Group 3 George Moore Stakes

• Listed Lough Neagh Stakes

• Bernborough Handicap

• Keith Noud Quality

• B.J. Mclachlan 2YO Stakes

I am also excited to announce that the Brisbane Racing Club have assisted us in moving the Bernborough Handicap to Toowoomba for its grand opening and this will, no doubt, be one of the highlights of the reopening, with the Bernborough Handicap being run at the home of the ‘Toowoomba Tornado’.

In excess of $9,000,000 will be distributed throughout the Summer Carnival with $6,395,000 on offer for our Summer feature races.

We are very excited to be involved as a partner of Magic Millions, as this tremendous sale and raceday is not only a feature of racing Queensland, but is also one of the major social highlights on the Queensland calendar. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Newman Government for their ongoing commitment and support of racing, and in particular this Summer Carnival.

ALL MAttERS RELAtinG tO LiCEnSinG AnD StEWARDS COntROLUpon arrival in Queensland, trainers should contact the stewards to make the necessary arrangements regarding a Visiting Trainer’s Permit. This allows the visiting trainer to work his/her horses.

Applications for Visiting Trainer’s Permits may be obtained from the Racing Queensland website at www.racingqueensland.com.au. A fee of $55 should accompany the application.

If a stablehand is to work in Queensland for a period greater than one week, he/she must be registered through the racing Queensland licensing department, irrespective of what registration is held elsewhere.

RiSA SERViCE CEntRENominations, acceptances, gear changes, scratchings and stable returns relating to horses racing in Queensland are to be lodged with the RISA Service Centre by telephone (1800 138 704), or via the internet at www.risa.com.au (Stable Assist).

Trainers who have never used the RISA Service Centre may telephone the toll free number to register. The RISA Service Centre will provide assistance and information in relation to to using the system.

OWnER AnD tRAinERS PLEASE nOtEin the metropolitan area, all starters are required to be on course and in their raceday stall two hours prior to the starting time of their race, with the exception of the first race on the program, in which case horses are required to be on course one and a half hours prior.

In the provincial area, all starters are required to be on course one hour prior to racing. Further queries relating to raceday matters should be directed towards the stewards.

MEtROPOLitAn Win DEFinitiOnThe purpose of determining metropolitan wins, a win in a flat race, the prize for which is worth $11,500 or less to the winner, run at a metropolitan meeting in Australia, shall be deemed to be a win in a non-metropolitan race.

When determining the value of prizemoney, no account shall be taken of bonuses or added stakes payment not available to all horses eligible to be entered for the race. A win on the flat in any other country shall be deemed to be a metropolitan win except for that, for the purpose of this condition, no account shall be taken of wins in maiden races in Australia and New Zealand.
