Summer is a time to have fun with friends, explore the world and try new activities! M-NCPPC’s Department of Parks and Recreation offers you plenty of options. Choose from more than 565 camp sessions, 83 summer playgrounds and 15 summer teen centers throughout Prince George’s County. You may mix and match so that youth attend camp sessions some weeks, and Summer Playground programs or Xtreme Teens Center programs other weeks. Summer Camps are structured, full-day and half-day camps. The variety of camps offered includes general recreation camps that feature arts & crafts, sports & swimming, and innovative specialty camps that feature nature, visual and performing arts, computers, sports, and more. Most camp sessions are two weeks long and offer

before and after care to help working parents with safe childcare options. Registration for Prince George’s County residents begins at 9 am, Saturday, February 23. Registration for residents of all other jurisdictions begins at 9 am, Saturday, March 2. Summer Playgrounds and Summer Xtreme Teen Centers are open to residents of Prince George’s County only. These supervised drop-in programs operate from Monday, June 24 through Friday, August 2. Playgrounds are for children ages 6-12; teen centers operate for youth ages 13-17. Registration begins April 1.

PAYMENT & PAYMENT SCHEDULING OPTIONSYou may pay in full or make a $50 deposit (per camper, per session)when you register, and schedule the remaining payments. The $50deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable.Scheduled payments must be paid in full by June 1 for sessions that

begin on or before July 8; or by July 1 for sessions that begin after July8. (June 1 is the last date personal checks will be accepted.) You maypay your balance before the due date; when paying on line or usingthe automated touch-tone telephone system, your payment will beshown as a credit to your account. On the due date, the system willautomatically apply that credit to the balance.

Register in person at any M-NCPPC staffed facility in PrinceGeorge’s County. All walk-in registrations during the week prior to camp start date must be processed at the offering facility, and are subject to supervisor approval.

WHAT (R), (NR) AND (IA) MEAN... (R) means Residents of PrinceGeorge’s and Montgomery Counties; (NR) means Non-Residents of allother jurisdictions; and (IA) means residents living in the Impact Area ofthe Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex. Impact Area residentsreceive a fee reduction for camp programs at the Complex. Call 301-583-2400, TTY 301-583-2483 for information about the Impact Area.

EXTENDED CARE INFORMATION• You must first be registered in the corresponding day camp beforeregistering for extended care. (Not all camps offer extended care.)

• Please complete extended care registration at least one week prior to camp start date.

• You must pay in full at the time you register for extended care.

CANCELLATION POLICYRegistrants are entitled to a 100% refund (or SMARTlink credit) in theevent that M-NCPPC cancels a camp.

CHECK POLICYChecks returned for insufficient funds will be assessed a $35 RefundAdministration Fee by M-NCPPC, in addition to your bank charges. NO starter checks accepted.

FEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAMFee assistance is available (subject to approval) for Prince George’sCounty residents only. For complete information and applicationforms, stop by your local community center or obtain the forms online at www.pgparks.com > About Parks and Recreation > Fee Assis-tance. Applications must be processed no later than 3 weeks prior tostart of program.

LATE PAYMENT PENALTIESIf you’ve made a deposit and full payment is not received by the duedate, your space may be forfeited and you will lose your $50 deposit.If the camp accepts your late payment, you will be assessed an addi-tional $20 late payment fee.

LATE PICKUP FEE POLICY• $5 per camper for every 15 minutes late (or portion thereof) will be assessed for campers who are not picked up by the programs’ scheduled closing time.

• Payment is due when the camper is picked up. Example: Camp endsat 4:30 pm. Camper is picked up at 5:12 pm. The assessed late fee will be $15.

• We recognize that emergencies arise and request that parents call the campsite if they delayed for any reason, however, the late fee will still be assessed.

WAIT LISTSIf a camp session is full, you may put your name on a wait list andregister for another camp during that session. If a spot opens at yourfirst-choice camp, upon your request your registration will be trans-ferred to the first-choice camp without penalty.

WITHDRAWAL & REFUND POLICYWithdrawal and refund requests for fully paid or partially paid registrations are subject to a $50 non-transferable, non-refundablewithdrawal fee per child/per session. Withdrawal and refund requestsfrom extended care (with continued enrollment in associated camp)will be assessed a 20% Refund Administration Fee. NO EXCEPTIONS.Withdrawals from sessions must be processed by the facility offeringthe program.

Swimming Trips Policy Please read the following information carefully prior to selecting your child’s swimmingdesignation during registration.

To help ensure the safety of your child while he or she is participating in swimming pool trips this summer, you will be asked to designatehim or her as a “Non-Swimmer” or “Swimmer” during registration. Use the following descriptions as a guide for selecting your child’sappropriate swimming designation.

NON-SWIMMER:Non-swimmers have limited or no previous experience with swimming pools or other aquatic environments. They are unable toindependently swim distances of 20 yards or more and/or cannot swim or play comfortably in water that is above their heads.

If you designate your child as a “Non-Swimmer” he or she will be restricted to chest-deep water on swim trips.

SWIMMER:Swimmers have previous experience with swimming pools or other aquatic environments. They can swim a minimum of 20-yards andcan swim or play comfortably in water that is above their heads.

If you designate your child as a “Swimmer” he or she will be required to pass a swim test each time he or she visits a pool. The swim testrequires participants to swim a minimum of 20 yards in water more than five feet deep and continuously tread water for a minimum of20 seconds.

Upon successful completion of the required swim test, children designated as “Swimmers” will have full access to both shallow anddeep-water areas of the pool during swimming trips. Designated “Swimmers” who do not pass the required swim test will be re-designated as “Non-Swimmers” and restricted to chest-deep water.

If your child’s swimming abilities change between the time you register for a program and the start of the program, please contact staff,you will need to sign a new form.

SUMMER DAY CAMPINFORMATION AND POLICIES

EXTENDED CARE OPTIONS• Supervised, non-structured playtime before and after camp session hours are available for many camp sessions. Extended care sessionsare listed with each camp session in his brochure. Not all camps offer extended care. Please check activity descriptions.

• All disability accommodation requests (inclusion services) for extended care must be requested at least two weeks prior to the start date of the camp.

LATE PICKUP FEE POLICYA late fee of $5 per camper for every 15 minutes late (or portion thereof) will be assessed for campers who are not picked up by the program’s scheduled closing time. Payment is due when you pick up your camper. We recognize that emergencies arise and requestthat parents call the campsite if they are delayed for any reason; however, the late fee still will be assessed.

SWIMMER DESIGNATIONS

To comply with the state of Maryland’s Youth Camp Standards, The Department of Parks and Recreation instituted a new, streamlinedprocess for completing and collecting required forms. It is theparent/guardian’s responsibility to deliver all necessary, completedforms to each program location. Children may not attend any sessionwithout completed forms on site. NO EXCEPTIONS.

DURING REGISTRATION…Once you’ve selected the program you want for your child, a pop-upscreen will appear listing 8 prompts which you are required to answerin order to complete a registration. The prompts are:

• Emergency Contact Name (other than a parent/guardian)Please provide the full name of the person to contact in case of an emergency.

• Emergency Contact Phone Number (other than a parent/guardian)Please provide the phone number of the emergency contact.

• Physician’s NamePlease provide the name of your child’s physician.

• Physician’s Phone NumberPlease provide the physician’s phone number.

• Is the participant a swimmer/non-swimmer?Please indicate whether the child is a swimmer or a non-swimmer. (See page 4.)

• Has the participant been immunized?Your options are: (a) Yes – student in a Maryland public or private school ; (b) Yes – student is home-schooled or was in a school other than in the state of Maryland school; (c) No.

If you answer Yes – and the student was in a Maryland public or private school, you will not need to complete a Maryland DHM Immunization Certificate.

If you answer No or Yes – the student is home-schooled or was in a school other than the state of Maryland, then the Maryland DHM Immunization Certificate will print out with your Day Camp Confirmation Receipt. This Certificate must be completed and returned to staff prior to your child’s participation in the day camp program.

• Are there any health issues?Please answer Yes or No. Participants who have health issues such as allergies or other illness, take medication (prescription or over-the-counter), or use emergency medical devices such as inhalers or Epi-pens should answer Yes. The Health-Medication Form will be printed with your Day Camp Confirmation Receipt at the end of the registration. This form must be completed and returned to staff prior to your child’s participation in the day camp program. If you answer No, you will not need to complete any additional health forms.

• Date of last Tetanus or DPT vaccinationPlease fill-in the month/year (example: 01/2012) when the child last received a Tetanus or DPT vaccination. This is a requirement of the State of Maryland.

When you’ve completed this information once, and if you want toregister the child for additional camp sessions during the summer,these fields will automatically populate with your answers.

Once your registration and transaction are complete, the followingitems will print out for your convenience:• A Day Camp Confirmation Receipt• A Summer Day Camp Authorization Form (This form authorizes whomay pick up your child during a camp session, and must be returnedto camp staff prior to participation in the program.)

• And, depending upon your answers to the prompts, the Health-Medication Form or Maryland DHM Immunization Certificate.

• Closed-toed shoes are required; sandals are not permitted.• Sites are subject to change based on availability and sufficient registration.

To comply with the state of Maryland’s Youth Camp Standards, The Department of Parks and Recreation has instituted a new,streamlined process for completing and collecting required forms. Itis the parent/guardian’s responsibility to deliver all necessary, com-pleted forms to each program location. Children may not attendany session without completed forms on site. NO EXCEPTIONS.

DURING REGISTRATION…Once you’ve selected the program you want for your child, a pop-up screen will appear listing 8 prompts which you are required toanswer in order to complete a registration. The prompts are:

• Emergency Contact Name (other than a parent/guardian)Please provide the full name of the person to contact in case of an emergency.

• Emergency Contact Phone Number (other than a parent/guardian)Please provide the phone number of the emergency contact.

• Physician’s NamePlease provide the name of your child’s physician.

• Physician’s Phone NumberPlease provide the physician’s phone number.

• Is the participant a swimmer/non-swimmer?Please indicate whether the child is a swimmer or a non-swimmer.(See page 4.)

• Has the participant been immunized?Your options are: (a) Yes – student in a Maryland public or private school ; (b) Yes – student is home-schooled or was in a school other than in the state of Maryland school; (c) No.

If you answer Yes – and the student was in a Maryland public or private school, you will not need to complete a Maryland DHM Immunization Certificate.

If you answer No or Yes – the student is home-schooled or was in a school other than the state of Maryland, then the Maryland DHM Immunization Certificate will print out with your Playground/Teen Center Confirmation Receipt. This Certificate must be completed and returned to staff prior to your child’s participation in the program.

• Are there any health issues?Please answer Yes or No. Participants who have health issues suchas allergies or other illness, take medication (prescription or over-the-counter), or use emergency medical devices such as inhalers or Epi-pens should answer Yes. The Health-Medication Form will be printed with your Day Playground/Teen Center Confirmation Receipt at the end of the registration. This form must be completed and returned to staff prior to your child’s participation in the program. If you answer No, you will not need to complete any additional health forms.

• Date of last Tetanus or DPT vaccinationPlease fill-in the month/year (example: 01/2013) when the child last received a Tetanus or DPT vaccination. This is a requirement ofthe State of Maryland.

Once your registration and transaction are complete, the followingitems will print out for your convenience:• A Summer Playground/Teen Center Confirmation Receipt• A Deputy Director’s Letter which must be signed and returned to program staff prior to participation in the program.

• And, depending upon your answers to the prompts, the Participant Health-Medication Form or Maryland DHM Immunization Certificate.

SUMMERPLAYGROUNDS

Conducted at neighborhood locations throughout the county, summer playgrounds

offer fun activities for Prince George’s County residents only, ages 6-12. Children are

free to come and go during the day, and to attend some days and not others.

Extended Care is not offered. The fee is $40 per child, whether a child attends six

hours a day for all six weeks, or select days and times only. Optional field trips and

special events may be offered for additional fees. Children must meet the minimum

age of 6 by August 31, 2013. These drop-in programs operate Mondays-Fridays,

9 am-3 pm, June 24 until August 2. All sites are closed July 4.

SUMMERXTREME TEENCENTERS

Summer Xtreme Teen Centers offer Prince George’s County teens, ages 13-17, age-appropriate activities on a drop-in basis.
