PRESCHOOL/EARLY LEARNINGPreschool is an exciting time as children embark on new adventures in theworld of learning. At the Y, we regard each child as a unique individual whoneeds to be understood, guided, encouraged and appreciated. Our programsprovide activities where children learn, explore, build a positive self-imageand develop strong social and emotional relationships. Y programsencourage children to explore their creativity through multi-sensoryexperiences and create a language-rich environment to promote and foster alove of reading. Children are exposed to art, music, math and science as theydevelop expressive and receptive language and gross motor skills.

Bright Ideas Bright Ideas Preschool is a program designed to introduceand prepare children to thrive in a multi-day class setting by adhering todaily schedule, working cooperatively with classmates and learning basicpreschool-ready skills. Kids will participate with their parents and coaches during this t-ball league.The fundamentals of the game will be established while focusing in onfielding, throwing, hitting and catching. PARENT/CHILD SWIM LESSONS(Ages 6 months to 3 years)

Our parent/child swim lessons promote water enrichment and aquatic-readiness activities for children and their parents or other trusted adults.In this program, the developmental experiences of each child are usedto build the child's self-confidence in and out of the water. Parents learnfrom the instructor's example how to guide their children through positivereinforcement and appropriate praise.

There are four levels based on developmental abilities:

• Shrimp (6-8 months) Child can control their head and sit with supportfrom the hands.

• Kipper (9-12 months) Child can sit without hand support and stand withsupport from the hands.

• Inia (13-18 months) Child can stand without support and walk with orwithout support or aid.

• Perch (19-36 months) Child can run and jump.Instructors are certified inthe YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Program.

Group Preschool Swim Lessons (Ages 3-5)These programs offer children their first experience in the water withouta parent. Children are taught basic skills that are the building blocksof swimming, including water propulsion, floating, body awareness andindependence. They are also taught some general aquatic safety andpool games. Children will be taught with and without the use of variousinstructional flotation devices.

There are four levels based on developmental abilities:

• Pike (Beginner)

• Eel (Intermediate)

• Ray (Advanced Intermediate)

Level 3: Ray (Ages 3-5) Swimmers will learn to front and back float for 30seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathingfor 25 yards with an IFD, and for 20 feet without. Swimmers will also learnfront symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing for 25 yards with an IFD,and for 20 feet without; do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards with anIFD and for 20 feet without; back alternating paddle for 25 yards with anIFD and for 20 feet without; and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards withan IFD and for 20 feet without. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmersshould be able to jump in the water without assistance and float on theirfront and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers should alsobe able to paddle on front, back and sides for 25 yards with an IFD and for15 feet without.

Level 4: Starfish In this class swimmers will learn to do a standing dive,basic front crawl with rotary breathing for 25 yards, basic breaststroke for25 yards, backstroke for 25 yards, elementary backstroke for 25 yards,basic sidestroke for 25 yards and tread water for 1 minute. Prerequisites:To enter this level, swimmers should be able to front and back float for 30seconds without an IFD, front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathingfor 25 yards with an IFD and for 20 feet without. Swimmers also need to beable to front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing for 25 yards withan IFD and for 20 feet without, do a side alternating paddle for 25 yardswith an IFD and for 20 feet without, back alternating paddle for 25 yardswith an IFD and for 20 feet without, and back symmetrical paddle for 25yards with an IFD and for 20 feet without.

Looking to have a special night out with your spouse or friends withoutthe guilt? The Y offers Parents Night Out each month to help you get thespecial time you need while your child has a great time playing and meetingnew friends. Drop the kids off at the YMCA at 6 p.m. and pick them up at8:30 p.m. Child does not need to be potty trained, but an adult must bewithin 15 minutes to change diapers if necessary.

Parents Afternoon Out - With Children Ages 2-5

SAVE THE DATEHEALTH KIDS DAY® FRIDAY, APRIL 29, 6PMHealthy Kids Day® is a free, annual event celebrating the Y's nationalinitiative to improve families' health and well-being. This free event featureschild and family-friendly activities sure to get the whole family immersed inphysical activity and learning fun! Everyone in the community is invited toparticipate in fun activities such as healthy cooking demonstrations, artsand crafts, fitness contests and more to motivate and teach families how todevelop a healthy routine at home.

The YMCA's before and after school programs are more than just child care.They're enrichment programs designed to meet the developmental needsof children with an emphasis on experiential learning, social and emotionaldevelopment and the promotion of healthy living, all while providing a fun,safe and nurturing environment for children. In our programs, parents havepeace of mind, knowing their child is in a supportive environment focused ondeveloping their true potential.

BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMSBefore School Care for District 95 Students - Includes bustransportation. Ina Y sports program, your child will meet friends, learn new skills, improvehis or her fitness and most importantly have fun! Youth Conditioning Develop your motor abilities and skills by utilizingmovements and exercises that improve speed, agility, quickness, strengthendurance, relative strength and flexibility. Learn the same principles andtechniques used by athletes for that extra advantage in performance. Buildthe foundation and the groundwork for later years of development in a safeand healthy environment. This class is suitable for all fitness levels and noexperience is necessary.

YOUTH SPORTS LEAGUESIn our leagues, athletes play equal time, with positive competition and familyinvolvement. In addition to developing your child's athletic ability and sports-manship, our programs emphasize the Y's core values of Caring, Honesty,Respect and Responsibility. T-Ball This purified gem of a program is actually a combination of t-ball andcoach pitch. Kids get the best of both worlds. Teams will be formed and thefundamentals of the game will be established and accounted for. In additionto zeroing in on the key aspects of the game of baseball like throwing,catching, fielding and throwing, kids will begin to understand the intricaciesof how the game is supposed to be played. A huge learning curve will beimplemented. We think you'll like this... a lot.

Travel Basketball: Practice once a week and travel to other Y’s to playbasketball each saturday

YOUTH SWIM LESSONSLearn to Swim at the Y.

Since 1885, the YMCA has been a pioneer in swimming education. Literallymillions of people have learned to swim through the Y's perfected program.In Y swim lessons, participants learn and practice new swimming skills andfeel a sense of achievement from mastering something new that they canenjoy the rest of their lives.

Level 1: Polliwog This is the beginning level for school age children and isappropriate for anyone new to the water or with little formal instruction.Children will learn kicking skills, the basic paddle stroke on their front, backand sides, and will become comfortable putting their face in the water.

Polliwog, Guppy, Minnow This program follows the Y of the USA'sguidelines for swim lessons. There is a focus on five main points: personalgrowth, personal safety, stroke development, water sports and games,and rescue. Classes may be combined based on enrollment. Polliwog is thebeginning level for school age children and is appropriate for anyone newto the water or with little formal instruction. Children will learn the basicpaddle stroke on their front, back and sides, kicking skills, and will becomecomfortable putting their face in the water.

5K in 8 Weeks, Run ONLY Interested in running a 5 but don't know whereor how to start? Just want to get into shape and improve your fitness? Joinus for this 8-week training program designed to get you to a point whereyou can run a comfortable, relaxed 3 miles. Mondays, you will do small-group strength work geared for runners. Wednesdays and Saturdays we willtake to the trails for our runs. Sign up for two days or for all three. Thiswalk-run program is suitable for all fitness levels and allows you to progressat your own pace. Ages 16 .

HIIT Tabata The Tabata protocol is a high-intensity training regimen thatproduces remarkable results. A Tabata workout is an interval training cycleof 20 seconds of maximum intensity exercise followed by 10 seconds ofrest, repeated without pause 8 times. It's a simple training routine that'sbeen proven to improve performance and fitness in a very short time. Wewill meet for 5 consecutive weeks and track our progress and performanceimprovement.

Outdoor Boot Camp This high-intensity, 45-minute class will get you into(or keep you in) great shape. Classes will be held at Memorial Park and theformat will change weekly. Register on a weekly basis. Runs Mondays andWednesdays, 5:15-6 p.m. Ages 16 .
