Delta Sigma Alumni News Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity | Summer 2014 The State of Delta Sigma Chapter Chapter Growth Through some immense difficulties last fall, the chapter is proving that they have the perseverance needed to improve their situation. After a disappointing end to the fall semester, the chapter became determined to improve their situation. This spring, they continued to recruit after the formal period ended, increasing their chapter size to 22. They held another successful Push Week that brought the chapter’s annual fundraising to $3,791. Their GPA rose .35 to a 3.16, placing them second among all men’s fraternities. In addition, the chapter has once again represented our legacy of Push America with two chapter brothers, Mike O’Connell and Steve Dibble crewing Journey of Hope (North Route). With the addition of several new advisors including chapter alumni, other Pi Kapps and campus staff, they’re working hard this summer to plan for a successful fall where they plan to focus heavily on recruitment and member education to grow and prepare future leaders of the chapter. Housing On May 10th, the chapter officially left the house for the final time. Beginning this summer, the university will be tearing down all Greek housing to build the new village in its place. At this point, the chapter will be residing in several suites in Falcon Heights for the next two years and is slated to have a 12-man house in the new village beginning in Fall of 2016. In order to do this, they will need to continue to grow the chapter to 30 active members or more in time to occupy the house. Hannah-Ross Moves Toward EndowmentRecently, the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation asked that Delta Sigma have $2,500 in its Chapter Investment fund in order to remain active. This spring, more than a dozen alumni came together to help close the nearly $1,500 gap. Currently, the fund sits at $3,300 but in order to reach endowment levels the fund must reach $10,000. Once endowed, the money will be used to fund two scholarships in memorial of Steve Hanna and Kevin Ross. We hope to have the fund endowed by March 2015 in time for the 30 year anniversary of the tragic accident that took their

lives. To make your donation, please contact Alumni Chapter President Chris Shade - [email protected].

Thanks to Our Donors!Thank you to all of the alumni who’ve contributed to the campaign so far this year!

Supreme Chapter in ATLJoin us for the 54th Supreme Chapter in Atlanta, GA August 7 - 10. This year, the fraternity will be unveiling a number of new initiatives including its new strategic plan and brother Nick Kulik will officially be given the Thirty Under 30 Award. To register for Supreme Chapter, go to www.pikapp.org/54th.

The Alumni ChapterThis year, Delta Sigma has focused it’s attention on keeping alumni better connected and providing ways to help support the student chapter. This years we’ve seen a number of developments including the launch of the alumni chapter website, and strong progress toward the endowment of the Hanna - Ross Scholarships and we’ve built off of the momentum of the last few years with continuously growing

turnout to homecoming and consistent distribution of a newsletter at least twice each year. With the collection of alumni dues, we hope to provide additional events at the local level outside of homecoming, as well as provide additional support to the chapter in advance of the new house. To pay your annual alumni dues, go to www.pkpbgsu.com/join.

Alumni SpotlightsThis year, Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity introduced its own Thirty Under 30 Award. Alumni of 25 different chapters of all sizes, locations and age are represented in the following pages painting a broad, yet distinguished, view of Pi Kappa Phi as a national organization. These alumni come from all types of backgrounds, and were nominated for all types of outstanding achievement: volunteerism, professional achievement, etc. While the qualifications of the honor can vary, all of the recipients have in common a commitment to fraternal values. These men are all outstanding examples of how to live out the values of Pi Kappa Phi long after leaving your college campus. This year, Pi Kappa Phi recognized Delta Sigma alumnus Nick Kulik as a Thirty Under 30 winner.

During his time as an undergraduate at Bowling Green State University, he served on the Historian, risk manager and Push America chairman. He also crewed on Journey of Hope (2007) and Gear Up

Florida (2009). His ability to fundraise, problem solve and manage teams was clearly evident; before the age of 25, he oversaw all of United Way's operations for Wood County and sat on a number of public and nonprofit boards in the area due to his expertise. The success that he brought to the United Way in Wood County earned him a promotion to a VP role in a much larger county of Wisconsin last year where he managed the lead Racine County to the largest annual campaign in its 91 year history. This spring he returned to his alma mater as a director of development in the Office of Advancement, overseeing major gift solicitations for University Libraries and Student Affairs.

"I'm honored to have this opportunity to help guide the mission of the liberal arts at The University of Findlay," said Tulley. A liberal arts degree at Findlay will empower students with the abilities and dispositions to succeed in their lives and careers." Tulley has held several teaching and administrative positions at the University since 2002 when he was a composition and literature instructor in the Department of English. Most recently, Tulley was an associate professor of English since 2010 and the interim director for online learning since 2013. Prior to accepting a position at The University of Findlay, Tulley taught at Case Western Reserve University, Bowling Green State University, Pierce College (Lakewood, Washington), Highline Community College (Des Moines, Washington), Joliet Junior College (Joliet, Illinois), South Suburban College (South Holland, Illinois) and East-West University (Chicago).Tulley is a recipient of the Harriette Smith Ritz Award for Service to the University (2013), the Richard E.
