Edexcel GCSE (9-1) Biology Topic 2 Cells and Control

How do cells divide and specialise? What is the structure of the brain and how can it be imaged? What is the structure of neurones and how is information passed between them? What is the structure of the eye and how can ailments which effect the eyes be explained?

Pre-exposure homework

1. Search on Google for the ‘Secret life of the brain’ go to the PBS website and look through the sections on the life of the brain. Focus on the ‘teenage brain’ and look at why sleep is important. Be prepared to discuss this in a lesson.

Edexcel GCSE (9-1) Chemistry C7 Types of Substance

What are molecular compounds?

What are the characteristics of simple and giant molecules?

What are the allotropes of carbon and why does one of them conduct electricity?

Why can metals conduct electricity?

Pre-exposure homework

Review your year 9 work on atomic structure and bonding. 1. What is the link between the periodic table and the way the

electrons are arranged in elements? 2. Why do atoms form ions? 3. What are isotopes? 4. What are the sub-atomic particles in an atom and how do you find

out how many of each there are?

Students will produce a series of detailed and expressive study boards and will produce a personal final composition. Students will research artists who explore natural forms with a focus on process, context or compositional layout.

Pre-exposure homework
