Bring your passion for art to Lehigh Senior High School Center for the Arts. Our center provides a superb arts education for students who would like to pursue a more concentrated study in one of the several majors, offered in our program. The center is meant to en-hance your experience and promote your artistic development and personal growth.A graduate of the center will be prepared to continue in the field of their choice or to succeed in any one of the finest Liberal Arts col-leges they plan to attend.

Janelle Laux is a graduate of the University of West Georgia with a degree in Theatre. She has been with the School District of Lee County and Lehigh Senior High School Center for the Arts for 6 years. Mrs. Laux has previously worked with the Florida Repertory Theatre, Sanibel Schoolhouse Theatre, and the entertainment department of Hershey Park. Mrs. Laux’s goal here at LSHS is to train students to run shows in their entirety. From designing to working the booth, students have the opportunity

to get hand-on experience in all aspect of theatre.

Lauren Gomez is a graduate of Cypress Lake High School Center for the Arts with a major in dance. She went on to attend the University of South Florida and graduated from their dance department with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Modern Dance Performance. Mrs. Gomez danced with the resident dance company of the Alliance for the Arts in Lee County, Dance Alliance. She was a founding member and danced with them for five years. In her second year at LSHS, Mrs. Gomez is excited to continue to grow and strengthen the dancers within the department.”

Carmella Turner is a native of Georgia and a graduate of Valdosta State University, where she completed a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education with an emphasis on Voice. Recently relocating to Fort Myers, she now holds the position as the Choral Director at Lehigh Senior High School Center for the Arts, where she teaches Beginning Chorus, Advanced Chorus, Vocal Techniques, and Music Theory 1. She is a member of the National Association for Music Education, Florida Music Educators Association, and the Florida Vocal Association.

Jay Parales holds an associate of arts degree from the Florida

Keys Community College. After graduation he went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Florida Atlantic University. Mr. Parales has worked as a band teacher at Marathon High School in Marathon Key, Florida for 11 years before coming to Lehigh Senior High School where he has been the band teacher since 1994.

Mrs. Somogyi is a graduate from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s of science in Art Education. She has been a teacher at Lehigh for the last 9 years and currently teaches Drawing I, Drawing II, AP Studio Art, AP Art History and Portfolio. Currently she is working on acrylic paintings of landscapes and foliage.

Ms. Penuel is a graduate from Florida Gulf Coast University with a bachelor’s of Fine Arts. She has been a Lehigh teacher for 6 years and currently teaches Ceramics, Sculpture, and AICE Art & Design. Ms. Penuel is a local artist in the Lee County area specializing in wood, assemblage, and painting.

Ms. Haskins is a graduate of Bowling Green State University with a bachelor’s of Fine Arts and a Master’s in Education from Pacific University in Oregon.

She is a transplant from Portland Oregon and has been teaching art at Lehigh going on her 4th year.

Mr. Kruse is a graduate from Illinois Institute of Art - Chicago with a Bachelor of Science in Game Art and Design. This is his 2nd year at Lehigh Senior, and currently teaches Creating 2D Art as well as Gaming and Simulation. Mr. Kruse is a local artist in the Lee County area specializing in two dimensional drawing.

Mrs. Steiner is a graduate from Florida Gulf Coast University with a bachelor’s in Fine Arts. This is her first year teaching at Leigh High Senior High School. She currently teaches 3D Art. Mrs. Steiner is a local artist in Lee County specializing in printmaking as well as ceramic, wood and metal sculptures.

Ms. McCartney attend the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pa where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Photography. This is her 8th year at LSHS, in the Media Arts department where she is currently teaching Digital and Web Design. She is the Department Chair for the ADMA and is certified in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign software.

Ms. Montana attended Dowling College on Long Island and earned a Master’s degree in Secondary Education, she also attended Saint Leo University where she earned her Associate’s degree in Fine Art. She went on to the State University of New York where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art and Photography. She has been teaching art and photography at Lehigh Senior High since 1999.

Mr. Hopkinson is a graduate of Plattsburgh State University with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in TV Broadcasting. He has worked for four different CBS news organizations for ten years which include around New York and lastly In Florida at WINK News. He is a transplant from Upstate New York and has been teaching at Lehigh going on his 4th year.

Matt Perkowski graduated from the University of New Haven (CT) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. This is his 14th year at LSHS teaching Microsoft certifications and running the OJT program. Mr. Perkowski is certified in Microsoft 2013 and CIW.

Mr. Foreman graduated from Keiser University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology Management. Mr. Foreman teaches Microsoft Certifications and is certified in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, he also coaches JV soccer. This is his first year teaching at LSHS.

Ms. Machek is a graduate from Youngstown State University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Comprehensive Business Education. After teaching in Virginia and Pennsylvania for 15 years, Ms. Machek moved to Florida to be near the beach and continue her teaching career. Ms. Machek is certified in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel and is working towards her certifications in Word Expert, Excel Expert, Photoshop, InDesign, and Dreamweaver.

MAJOR TRACKStudents must audition to be awarded major track status. Those students who are accepted will follow the specific major track of classes for their department. Students who complete 9 or more credits in the Arts will graduate with a Center for the Arts Certificate and receive cords. Students who are privileged to study in the major track must be committed to developing their talents and gaining the most experiences from the program. Majors at the Center for the Art have access to performance opportunities, master classes, field trips, conferences, and other enrichment opportunities that maintain a rigorous standard of learning in the arts.*Students unable to attain 9 credits in the Arts but have completed 6 - 8 credits will be awarded a MINOR TRACK certificate at graduation.
