The first major city in Quebec to be named, in 2009, a Cultural Capital of

Canada, this city founded by Laviolette is filled with the colourful sights and

sounds of its many events, artist studios, and performance venues. Poets, actors, and

CULTURAL ACTIVITIESThe magnificent Salle J.-Antonio-Thompson and the

Maison de la culture de Trois-Rivières offer a range of events throughout the year, from various cultural

workshops open to the public to large-scale productions.

SPECTACULAR EVENTSThe Cogeco Amphitheatre, on the banks of the St. Lawrence

River, is active in summer and winter. Nearly 9,000 spectators can be accommodated in its covered section and

grassy area. In the summer, Cirque du Soleil presents exclusive large-scale performances in tribute to Quebec artists.

Each year in August, more than 130,000 auto racing fans meet up at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, a major international event

that attracts teams and visitors from around the world.
