Unit 4 Story: Guidelines for parents and guardians

Gina: What can we do?Polly: Let’s make a jungle.Gina, Leo and Mike: Good idea!

Polly: Look! I’ve got flowers. Red and yellow flowers.Gina, Leo and Mike: Wow!

Gina: This book is a tree.Mike: I like trees!

Leo: Let’s make a river.Gina, Polly and Mike: Ooh! Good idea!

Mike’s mum: Look at your room, Mike!Gina, Leo, Polly and Mike: It’s a jungle!

Cut out the five pictures on worksheet part 1. Point to the characters. Your child says the names (the older monkey is Mike’s mum). Encourage him/her to name other things in the pictures (book, flower, tiger, spider). Ask what is happening in the story (the child tries to remember and explain in his/her own language). Read the story script and help the child put the pictures in the correct order. Check with Pupil’s Book pages 36 and 37.

Give the child glue and the second part of the worksheet. He/She sticks the pictures down in order into the blank frames. When he/she has finished, talk about what is happening in the story again (The animals use their imagination to make a jungle in Mike’s room, using everyday objects to represent different things (a book for a tree, buckets of water for a river and some flowers).). The child can then colour the pictures.
