Anthea Hardiman from Stoke Lane Dental practice explains why she chose A-dec and DecaDent for her surgery refurbishment project.

I started my career at Stoke Lane Dental Practice in Bristol back in 1994 as a locum dentist. During my first year I was offered the opportunity to buy into the practice as a partner and subsequently became the Principal Dentist working alongside two associates James Rocha and Sandra Clark.

Before refurbishment

With a mix of both NHS and Private Patients, the Dental Practice has been established for 30 years housing five working surgeries, a reception area and an additional room earmarked for conversion into a decontamination room. The refurbishment was the start of a major practice update as well as to initiate conformance to the new CQC/HMT guidelines.

The first stage was to do my research; I wanted to be able to see all the different manufacturers in one place, understand their products and to learn more. I felt the best place to do this was the upcoming BDTA Dental showcase at the NEC.

Having spent time looking round the show discussing my plans with lots of different equipment manufacturers and retailers, I have to say I was very impressed with A-dec. Although new to me, A-dec’s equipment and customer service really impressed me right from the onset.

I was particularly impressed by Eugene O’Malley, A-dec’s equipment Territory Manager. Eugene demonstrated the A-dec 500 chair, taking his time to run through the chair’s features and benefits with me. He then spent some time asking me about my current surgery, the layout, what I liked and disliked, and how I practice dentistry.

After spending time with Eugene I was left in no doubt the chair for my new Surgery had to be the A-dec 500 with bright green upholstery (Parrot). The chair ticked all the boxes and most importantly, I felt comfortable using it. A-dec introduced me to my local A-dec Dealer DecaDent - Miles Tucker the company owner invited me to his Greenway Farm showroom near Bath tospend some time learning more about the A-dec 500, the newly released A-dec LED light and the full range of cabinetry options available.

I suggested to Miles that I wanted a modern, clean, uncluttered look both from a design point of view but also to ensure that my surgery would be compliant with HTM01-05.

Miles made an appointment to come out to my surgery to discuss the design proposals with me. Happily, Miles successfully achieved a design which combined my desire for a sleek modern ‘clean’ look whilst working to CQC/HTM guidelines.

The cabinetry flows around the surgery, while the feature wall adds a real focus point for my patients. The Corian worktops and sinks are fabulous while the A-dec 500 chair in Parrot upholsteryand the new LED light has given my new surgery the ‘Wow’ factor which my patients love!

Miles and the DecaDent Team offered me a great service from start to finish and I would highly recommend them to other dentist’s considering refurbishing their practice.

If there was one bit of advice I could offer it would be ‘go for the A-dec 500 chair, it is the best and most comfortable and technically advanced chair I have ever used; wonderful!’
