Dental implants—for lifeDo you suffer from the discomforts of ill-fitting dentures?

Do you have difficulty eating certain foods or speaking clearly due to tooth loss?

If so, implant-supported full dentures may be the solution for you.

With conventional dentures, the bone in the jaw deteriorates over time, leading to ill-fitting dentures and denture sores. Dental implants provide a stable foundation for dentures that stay securely and comfortably in place, and can help to restore your chewing capacity.

Attractive and secure Dental implants can have many advantages when compared to traditional crown and bridge solutions.

Some advantages include:

• Dental implants look, feel and function closest to that of your natural teeth.

• Anchoring dental implants in the jawbone stimulates bone tissue and gums, ensuring an attractive, esthetic result while helping to maintain facial structures.

• Dental implants do not require any adhesives. • Implants can help to eliminate the

discomfort and insecurity often associated with loose, ill-fitting dentures.

Treatment procedure for a full-arch replacement

1. A thorough examinationThe first step of dental implant therapy is a discussion with your dentist, followed by a thorough dental examination. The jaw is x-rayed to check the condition of the bone tissue and to determine the placement of the dental implants. An impression is made of the jaw, forming an important platform for the treatment.

2. Placing the dental implantsThere are two options for dental implant placement, depending on your clinical situation. In a single-stage procedure, the dental implants are placed and a temporary prosthesis (implant-supported denture) is attached. For a two-stage procedure, the dental implants are inserted, covered by the gum tissue, and left to heal.

Depending on the bone condition, the prosthesis can be attached the same day the implants are placed.

3. Attaching the prosthesisOnce the implants have fully integrated with the bone tissues, in a single-stage procedure, the final (or permanent) prosthesis is placed.

For a two-stage procedure, a second surgery is required to reveal the dental implants for placement of the final prosthesis.

4. Fitting and re-examination When the prosthesis is ready, it is simply attached to the dental implants. This is usually followed by routine follow-up visits to ensure the functionality of your new teeth.

Like natural teeth

A dental implant is a small titanium screw that acts as an artificial tooth root, and provides a stable foundation for the placement of an implant-supported prosthesis. By stimulating the jawbone, implants help to maintain the bone in the jaw and facial structures over time and a stable tooth replacement solution that allows you to eat, speak and smile with confidence!

Removable option

A conventional denture requires messy adhesives and can cause denture sores.

2. An overdenture involves placing two or more dental implants that will be used as a secure foundation to attach the prosthesis.

3. For the overdenture, either Locator™ abutments, ball abutments or a small bar between the abutments are used. The prosthesis is fitted with corresponding attachment components underneath.

Overdentures

If you are missing all of your teeth, implant-supported overdentures can offer many benefits over traditional dentures.

One solution is a prosthesis that is securely attached to two or more dental implants, but can be removed for easy cleaning and maintenance. Unlike traditional methods, implant-supported dentures do not require adhesives.

Benefits

• Stable fit

• Removable for easy hygiene maintenance

• Eliminates the need for messy adhesives

1. If you have lost all of your teeth in one or both jaws, you can choose a removable prosthesis that is connected to two or more dental implants, called an overdenture.

Fixed option

Permanent full bridge

Conventional dentures can create unpleasant surprises due to their loose fit, and can negatively impact eating habits and make speech more difficult. A more secure option is a permanent full bridge that is attached to several dental implants.

2. For a permanently-anchored dental implant bridge, several dental implants are placed to form a stable foundation.

3. The abutments are attached to the dental implants and the bridge is fitted in place.

1. If you have lost all of your teeth in one or both jaws, you can choose a permanently-anchored dental implant bridge.

Benefits

• High stability

• Chewing comfort

• Reduced prosthesis base (free palate)

• Improved phonetics

“I have always had bad teeth and finally I ended up with dentures in both the upper and lower jaw. The lower denture was always loose, I couldn’t even eat properly. So my dentist informed me about implants, explaining how they are placed and that they function like natural teeth.

“The same day that I got my new teeth I had a nice dinner at a restaurant with my two sons. For the first time in ages I was able to enjoy both the meal and the company without having to worry about my teeth.”
