St.Francis Assembly 3495
Cardinal McGuigan Province 2nd Ontario District Master: Sir Knight Joe Mathews Faithful Navigator:Sir Knight Michael Dynes
St.Marys Parish-Collingwood Ontario
“The Sentinel Newsletter”-April 2016- Issue #20
Our Patron Saint :
The Prayer of Saint Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in dying to self that we are born to eternal life.
Attributed to Francis Bernadone, perhaps the most universally loved of Christian saints, who was
born in Assisi, Italy, in 1181 or 1182. At the age of twenty-two, after a sudden illness that
brought him almost to the point of death, he left his home and inheritance to follow an injunction
that he felt he received from Christ himself: "Francis, go and rebuild my Church." Three great
Franciscan orders quickly grew around the monks, nuns, and lay disciples who responded to his
joyful example of universal love and selfless service.
For most men who follow Jesus, there comes a time when duty extends beyond
our own lives, beyond how we lead our families, and into how we serve our
fellow man. That's what the Knights of Columbus is all about. The Patriotic
Degree allows K of C members to take this one step further. "Sir Knight" is more
than a title — it’s an honor.

April 2016
Sr. Knights, We your assembly look to seeing you at our meetings each
month the 4th Wednesday of the month. Why? Well that is easy, we
want to know you are well also that all is well with your family. Too
often we hear by 3rd party that you are not well or there has been a
death in your family. Each month we offer up prayers at our meeting
for those that are sick or deceased if you can’t make it to a meeting for
a health reason let us know, yes we do care or if you know of someone
who is not well let us know.
We have just lost a Sir Knight “Norman R. Duhamel” we will keep him
and his family in our prayers and at a joint mass with Council 5793 we
will Honor and pray for the Duhamel family May 3rd at St Mary’s church
Collingwood 7:00 pm. As you are all aware he was our area Fraternal
Advisor for many years and served the Knights of Columbus in his role
as our agent. He also brought many new members to our order, for this
we will be forever thankful. So I ask that all members of our Assembly
join with us on May 3rd at 7pm in prayer, PLEASE wear your Badges. I
would also as District Deputy ask that other Councils that where served
by our dearly departed Sir Knight “Norm” join with us in prayer if not at
mass then privately.
Three Sir Knights attended the district meeting and at the end of the
meeting Honor Guard drills where review and demonstrated. It was
interesting that our Commander has provided this very type of drills
and that we appear to be on the right track, so I say to you Sir Knights
take part in our sword drill the annual competition is coming we need
to be ready.
I am hoping to all of you at our General meeting, again April 27th 7:30
pm, don’t forget sword practice at 7 pm.
May our prayers heal our sick!

Highlights of the Month
After our solemn commemoration of the last days and death of Our Lord we will spend the month of April celebrating. As Spring breaks forth even nature will join us as buds and blooms begin to surface and we spend this month basking in the joy of the Resurrection. We continue throughout the entire month our cry, "Christ is risen, Christ is truly risen." The Feast of Divine Mercy offers us the opportunity to begin again as though we were newly baptized. The unfathomable mercy of God is made manifest today if we but accept His most gracious offer. Easter is the feast of feasts, the unalloyed joy and gladness of all Christians. This truly is "the day that the Lord has made." From Sunday to Sunday, from year to
year, the Easters of this earth will lead us to that blessed day on which Christ has promised that He will come again with glory to take us with Him into the kingdom of His Father.
The saints that we will focus on this month — those who have already shared in the rewards of the Resurrection — are St. Isidore (April 4), St. Vincent Ferrer (April 5), St. John Baptist de la Salle (April 7), St. Stanislaus (April 11), St. Martin I (April 13), St. Bernadette (April 16), St. Anselm (April 21), St. George and St. Adalbert (April 23), St. Mark (April 25), Our Lady of Good Counsel (April 26), St. Louis Mary de Montfort and St. Peter Chanel (April 28), St. Catherine of Siena (April 29) and St. Pius V (April 30).
The feast of St. Francis of Paola (April 2) falls during Easter Week and is superseded by the Holy Days. The feast of St. Fidelis of Sigmaringen (April 24) falls on Sunday so is superseded the Sunday liturgy.
A Time of New Life
April boasts the most solemn and sublime event of human history: the Resurrection of Jesus Christ – the Paschal mystery. Though the way to the Resurrection was the Via Crucis, the Sacrificial Lamb of God is now and forever Christ our Light, the Eternal high priest of the New Covenant. And his sorrowful mother, the Stabat Mater of Good Friday, is now the jubilant Mother of the Regina Caeli.
We the members of Christ’s Mystical Body exalt in the mystery by which we were redeemed. If in Baptism we were buried with Christ, so also will we share in his resurrection. By his death we were reborn; “by his stripes we were healed.” (Is 53:5) Easter, the epicenter of time, is the event that links time and eternity. It is indeed “the day the Lord has made; let us be glad and rejoice in it.” (Ps 118:24)
