My dear Confreres,

We have journeyed along the path of penance and repentance duringthe season of lent to experience Christ’s Resurrection. We participatein the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus to be part of hisResurrection, the paschal mystery of Human Salvation. Jesus boreour pain and sorrow, sin and slavery to lead us into a life of freedomand joy from the clutches of Sin, Satan and Circumstances.

At Christ’s Resurrection we are born anew in the life of the Spirit.The life in the spirit is a new creation. The old has passed and wehave put on the newness of life. We do believe that all our religiouspractices should correspond to our practical life, leading to a life oflove, service, respect for others, tolerance, and creating a new worldorder. May this celebration of Easter help us to live our religious andmissionary commitment with vigour and zeal to proclaim the RisenChrist through a life of love and compassion.

Formation Forum Meeting:An animation programme for the confreres in formation forum wasconducted on 26th February, from 9 am to 5 pm at Stellamaris. Rev. Fr.Philip Kizhakumpurath MSFS, from North East province was theresource person.

Various aspects of formation at different stages was dealt with by theresource person. ‘Formation for the formators’ was the underlying themeof all the talks. Formators were exhorted to become role models for theformees as they accompany them in every activity.

A new concept in formation was the highlight of the program. Althoughcorrection is inevitable in formation, according to the new conceptformators are to focus on the positive points or strengths of the candidatefrom the time they join the seminary. Rectors were advised to find outwhat motivated a candidate to join MSFS Congregation and foster themotivation of the candidate from time to time. As the candidates progressfrom one stage of formation to the next, their report should accompanythem, so that the next formator may continue to strengthen the originalmotivation with which they joined the seminary.

The animation program was followed by an hour of group discussionwith Rev. Fr. Provincial. Rev. Fr. K.V. Joseph proposed the vote of thanksand Fr. Provincial felicitated Fr. Philip the resource person of the day.

Mission Forum Seminar at Nunna

A Day’s Seminar for the Members of the Mission Forum, MSFS,Visakhapatnam Province, was conducted on the 20th February 2019 atNunna, Vijayawada. The seminar on the theme EFFECTIVEPASTORAL MINISTRY IN TODAY’S TELUGU STATES was envisagedwith a rationale to rejuvenate the Forum Members towards carrying outthe Pastoral works in faith and with missionary zeal. The Resourceperson for the day was REV. FR. MALLAVARAPU SUNDAR, JudicialVicar and Parish Priest from the Archdiocese of Hyderabad. 36 confreresparticipated in the seminar. During his two sessions, the resource personshared his reflections on the Challenges encountered in the field ofPastoral Ministry and the Ways to address them. His experiences as aparish priest in the Archdiocese of Hyderabad made his talk quiteinteresting and motivating.

This was followed by a talk on PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL (PPC) byFr. Dola Velangani Rao, Provincial Councillor in-charge of Missions. Hepresented the TCBC views about the matters related to the Importance,Establishment and Functions of PPC in Parishes. His systematicpresentation about PCC units was appreciated by the participants. Manyamong the participants clarified with him their doubts regarding thepastoral concerns.

In the concluding session, Very Rev. Fr. Chinnappa Reddy, our ProvincialSuperior, exhorted the confreres in Mission Apostolate to take care of thePastoral needs of the people with all earnestness and enthusiasmfollowing the Missionary zeal of our Patron St. Francis de Sales andfounder Fr. Peter Mermier. The Provincial thanked Frs. Velangani Rao,M. Vijayaraju and Kiran for working together to host this seminar. At theend of the seminar Fr. Velangani thanked very specially Fr. Vijayaraju,Parish Priest of Nunna for making all efforts to make this event a fruitfulone.

Mission Forum

Marriage Preparation Course at MSFS Dhyanashram

Marriage preparation course was conducted at MSFS Dhyanashram onMarch 9th (2nd Saturday) 2019. The programme began with theregistration at 8.30 a.m. Altogether 41 candidates participated andbenefited. The first session began with the Hymn of Praise, welcomingwords, opening prayer, scripture reading and the lighting of the lampfollowed by the Introductory talk by Fr. Francis Stephen. The secondsession is all about the General Perspective of marriage and marriageas a sacrament by Rev. Dr. Victor Babu followed by the break. In thethird session, V.R.A. Rajan presented a beautiful power point programme

depicting marriage as a relationship and its implications in the modernworld. The fourth session is all about Trans Gender Children (anawareness Programme) by Rev. Sr. Amitha. She said how we shouldrespect and accept these children as the third gender and give equalopportunities to them in the society but also if the parents happen togive birth to such children- how to treat them …etc followed by lunch. Inthe afternoon the 5th session is taken by Dr. Jayaraju who enlightenedabout the would be couple about biological, psychological, sexual, social,moral and medical aspects in marriage. The 6th session is all aboutmarriage & Civil law by Mrs. Jaya (Advocate). 7th session is about canonlaw and 8th session is about interpersonal relationship, skills of parentingby Fr. Francis Stephen. In the last session is Mr. & Mrs. Dominic &Shanice shared beautifully about their marriage life and enlightenedabout the would be couple. The presentation of the certificates wasdone by Fr. Peter Simhadri, Secretary to the Archbishop followed bytea break, vote of thanks, photo session. Special thanks to Most Rev.Dr. Mallavarapu Prakash garu, the Archbishop of Visakhapatnam andVery Rev. Fr. P. Chinnappa Reddy MSFS for their constant encouragement& blessings. The programme was conducted by a hymn to Our Lady.Thanks to all the parish priests and everyone who have cooperated forthe success of the programme.

September (10:30 a.m.) to 4th October (7.30 p.m.) and 6th January2020 (10:30 a.m.) to 10th January 2020 (7.30 p.m.). Please makethe necessary arrangements to participate in it.

Funeral adieu to Fr. Joseph Vichatt

Rev. Fr. Jospeh Vichattu was born on 1st July 1942at Rampuram, Kerala to Mr. Mathai and Mrs.Mariam. He did his Secondary School at St.Augustine High School, Rampuram and afterwhich he joined the Mount Mary Minor Seminaryat Arumanoor. He made his first religiousprofession on 4th May 1967 at Salesianum,Visakhapatnam. He studied philosophy at PapalSeminary, Pune. He did his regency at Philipnagar. He pursued histheological studies in St. Joseph’s Seminary, Mangalore and made hisperpetual profession on 4th May 1970. He was ordained a priest byMost Rev. Sebastian Vayalil, on 7th December 1972 at Chakkampuzha,Kerala.

As a young priest, he was appointed at Arakuvally in the year 1972.From 1972 to 1981 he was the Rector at Philipnagar where he wastraining the brothers into religious life. From 1981 to 1984 he was theRector and Superior of the Minor Seminary, Ettumanoor. He was theparish priest of Chokkad from 1984 to 1986. From 1986 to 1988 he

served the mission at Tanuku as parish priest, Superior andCorrespondent. From 1988 to 1990 he was appointed at St. AloysiusITI, Auto Nagar as Superior and Correspondent. He served as Rectorand Procurator at Fransalian Vidyajyothi, Nidadavolu from 1990 to 1992.From 1992 to 1994 he was the Rector and Vocation promoter at VinayaSadan, Kottayam. He served the Church at Maipu ( Chilli) from 1994 to1997. On his return from Chilli he was appointed as the parish priest ofNunna. He volunteered to be the pioneer of Rumania mission from2000 to 2001. He was appointed as the Novice Master at Salesianum,Visakhapatnam from 2001 to 2008. From 2008 to 2010 he renderedservice at St. Aloysius High School, Visakhapatnam. He has served theVailankanni Shrine in Tamil Nadu as Chaplain from 2010 to 2011. From2011 to 2014 he was the Superior and Farm-in-charge at MermierBhavan, Vakakkencherry. From 2014 to 2015 he served as the NoviceMaster. From 2015 to 2017 he served as Rector at MSFS MinorSeminary, Vadakkencheery. From 2017 he retired from active ministryand was taking rest at Mermier Bhavan, Vadakkenchery.

Fr. Joseph Vichatt has served the Congregation and the Church atvarious capacities. He had been a formator, parish priest, and servedthe people of God in Rumania and Chili. He is known for his daringpastoral spirit and pioneering enthusiasm and venturing into the unknownplace. He was cheerful and committed to any type of responsibilityentrusted to him. He is known for his simplicity of life, life of prayer anddedication to God and the people whom he serves.

We have a lot to learn from Fr. Joseph Vichatt’s life, He was dedicatedand committed to the responsibilities given to him. My experience withFr. Joseph Vichatt is that he was true to his vocation as religious, obedient,trustworthy and God fearing. In his death we miss a veteran missionarywho served the people of God, Congregation and the Church at large.

Rev. Fr. Joseph Vichatt passed away at 11.35 p. m. on 6th March 2019at the age of 77. The death was at Valliyode St. Joseph’s hospital onSt. Joseph’s day, due to cardiac arrest . Prior to his death he has beenparalyzed for almost four months in the hospital. He was given a tearfulrite on 9th March at 2.30 p.m. by the Bishop of Palakkad, Mar JacobManathodath. The mass was concelebrated by 79 priests and manySisters. The laity’s influx started from morning specially fromPomthalampadam, Rajagiri, Elanad and Vadakkencherry. More than700 faithful gathered to say bye to their loving shepherd . MSFSconfreres from all Indian provinces were represented. Bishop in hisintroduction said “he lived what he believed” .

Fr. Jose Parapally in his homily said that Fr. Vichatt is a zealousmissionary who spread the gospel to the people of India, Chile andRaumenia. A man of suffering and an owner of Iron will. An MSFS withthe virtues of love for the Congregation and for his fellow human beings.He is great in many ways than we think of. The service concluded withwords of gratitude by the Provincial Fr. Chinnappa Reddy, to the Bishop,priests and laity. Fr. Manoj thanked all especially St. Joseph’s Hospitalstaff, doctors, Sisters for their care and love for Fr. Joseph Vichatt onhis bed. May his soul rest in Peace.
