Whitaker presents “Summerscapes: Your Upcycled Summer of Fun in the Sun.” All ages were encouraged to submit their original upcycled pizza box artwork by July 31, and then a panel of judges selected the winners, whose art is hanging in Whitaker’s Curved Wall Gallery. The grand-opening of “Summerscapes” on Gallery Walk will include a formal pizza reception and awards ceremony.

“Romare Bearden: Vision & Activism” will be on view in the Main Gallery of the museum from June 9 through September 23 presenting examples of the artist’s social conscience and action. Bearden (1911-1988) is recognized as one of the most important visual artists of the 20th century, who countered racial stereotypes with images drawn from history, literature and the free world of his imagination. Work by Sean Matthews will be on view in the Lobby Gallery and Vault.
