Johnson Chiropractic & Sports Clinic

Johnson Chiropractic and Sports Clinic was established in July of 1993 in both Starbuck and Alexandria. Since that time, we have enjoyed providing high-quality chiropractic care to the Minnewaska area and surrounding communities. In addition to being a chiropractor, Dr. Johnson was trained as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician, and has training in spinal rehabilitation and extremity reha-bilitation. Treatment in our office is focused on not only relieving pain but improving function of the affected region such as range of motion, flexibility, and strength. Home therapy such as stretching and strengthening is an important part of the overall treatment plan. A short bit in this newsletter doesnt adequately describe what quietly goes on at the

Hearts And Hands/ Clothes Closet organization. This is busy place!

There is always a need for these services and a short visit with the Hearts and Hands food shelf coordinator, Darlene Christman really illustrates the important work that is being done

here.

In 2014, approx. 65 tons of food was distributed from the food shelf in service to 2,837 people, total. It is estimated as an average of over 80 households a month that received as-sistance. All participants are interviewed and pre-qualified for meeting eligibility require-

ments. Food and other items are distributed based on a chart for family size.

Canned, boxed, frozen, meat, dairy, and produce are typically in stock but contingent upon

availability of product.

Businesses and residents of this area have been very generous with donations of sup-

plies and money. Garden produce, when in season, is always welcome!

The proceeds from sales at the Clothes Closet are used to offset operating expenses at the

food shelf.

Hearts and Hands Food Shelf is affiliated with the North Country Food Bank of Crookston


Editorial: Food shelves provide an important service Look around your neighborhood and the numbers might surprise you. The food shelf at the Rosemount Family Resource Center serves 500 people a month. Farmingtons food shelf

serves more than 1,200 per year.

Thats a lot of need, even in communities where that need is not always obvious. Its a de-

mand that never seems to slow down, and a service that needs regular replenishing.

Thats what this month is about. March is Minnesota FoodShare Month. Its an opportunity to shine a light on the needs that exist at local food shelves, and in the communities they

serve.

People who use food shelves dont want to be there. In many cases theyre looking for help getting through a difficult time. Sometimes all that takes is one trip, one week where a gro-

cery bill gets removed from a larger list of concerns. In other cases it takes more.

In all cases, though, the food and other resources a food shelf provides can be vital in help-

ing your friends and neighbors get by.

There is need at the food shelf throughout the year, but this month is a chance to focus on that need. Local businesses and churches will hold food drives. Farmington High School will use its annual Games for Change to raise awareness and collect both food and mone-

tary donations.

This is your chance to make a difference, too. Every donation helps.

March is Minnesota Food Share Month

Minnesota FoodShare is a statewide media cam-paign that raises hunger awareness and promotes donations to local food shelves. During the month of March, a portion of all pounds and dollars do-

nated will be matched.

The Clothes Closet (open M-Th 10-3)


The Clothes Closet is open for shopping to the general public or those s sent there on a referral basis after a difficult life situation. There is a great variety of gently used womens, mens, teens, and childrens clothing as well as household items all priced at a great value. Gift certifi-

cates are available as well . Call manager Arlene Danielson with questions 634-3408.

Clothes Closet purchases are used to maintain building expenses for the Hearts and Hands build-ing and expense.. Donations of clean clothing and general household items are accepted and

may be tax deductible. (car seats and electronics items cannot be accepted)

Whether purchasing or donating, it is great way to help others.


SACC Building Exterior Grant Program


A recent participant in the SACC Building Exterior Grant Program is the Shalom Community Lutheran Church in developing the ministry center. The sign theme used over the rear entrance will be added to the front of the

building in the near future.

Shalom's first worship service was Oct. 10, 2010. We moved into the body shop in the midst of renova-tions in October 2013 and purchased the building in

On Wednesday afternoons we typically have about 20-24 junior high and high school youth gather for fellowship and learning in a program we call Soul Food, because not only are we nourishing our souls with scripture, twice a month we cook from scratch and enjoy home style

meals together. (We even taught lefse-making in November!) Pastor Becky Worner


Starbuck Heritage Days Buttons are now available .

Heritage Days Buttons are on sale at various businesses in town or at the chamber office for $5 each. Cash prizes of $300, $200, and $100 will be given away at a drawing at the coronation ceremonies on July 4th. Businesses or individuals that want to sell buttons can get buttons from Ann Beuckens. They can pay for the but-tons now or pay for the ones they sell from now until July 4th when they are picked

up again.
