mention, drop us an email [email protected] .Wed love to hear from you!

Last Sunday saw the arrival of the long-awaited clash between

SACC and ECCS in the latest installment of the VCA League.

But there was more at stake than just competition points. The

SACC were up for this one as they looked to regain the Saigon

Ashes, having lost them for the first time in their last encounter

back in 2009. The air was thick with anticipation prior to the

game - RMIT looked a picture but no one had envisaged what

    was to come.

ECCS won the toss and sent the Aussies in to bat. The English woes

began on the third ball of the day when Cade Armstrong knocked

one down to third man and big fast bowler, Noah Beaumont,

pulled a hamstring in the chase. Ben BVK Vankerkwijk, making hisfinal foreseeable appearance for the SACC before heading to the

Big Apple, then set about punishing the attack. BVK has a great

record against the Poms and he set the tone with a huge six over

cow corner off his first ball and followed it up with 3 more on his

way to retiring unbeaten on 33. Cade wasnt about to be forgotten

as he also plundered the bowling to all parts before retiring with 3

sixes of his own. Former Captain Terry Gordon survived an early

chance (see photos Pg. 2) but he also got back in the shed with 31

not out. Robbo and Billy Crang then chipped in with more modest

contributions while Leechy was bowled by an absolute rip-snorter

of a delivery from the new English quick, Matt Hopkins.

SACC debutante Tim Connell, who reckons he likes to bowl a bit

then strode to the crease to join his Captain Reggie Hinge

Armstrong (31n.o.) and they set about turning a very good total

into a record-breaking one. Both men were merciless, hitting 7

sixes and 2 fours between them. Late cameos by O and Marcus

Singh, also playing his farewell game for the SACC, pushed the

score to 5 for 250 and as the clouds threatened we hoped that this

performance not be spoiled by the weather.

Meanwhile, the English found themselves praying for rain as wicket

keeper and top line batsman, Matt Thwaites, had injured his

thumb in the first innings and was forced to bat in obvious pain.

Certainly the absence of former VCA Player of the Year, John

Handscombe, didnthelp their hopes of pulling off a miraculous run

chase. As is the case when chasing so many, risks had to be taken

and disciplined bowling from the SACC made life difficult for the

batsmen. Cade was getting it through at good pace and the O wasmiserly before young Tim came into the attack and tore them to

shreds he finished the day with 3 for 16 off 4 overs and 28 runs

off 8 balls in a sensational debut performance well done mate!

Billy Crang also turned in his best performance for the SACC, taking

3 for 18 off his 4 overs to clean up the tail.

RECORDS TUMBLE ASSACC REGAIN THE ASHES

    * Aussie batsmen pile on the runs against injury-ravaged English *

    * SACC cruise to emphatic victory *The other wickets went to the O, Dave Robb and Chris Robinson, who

was superb in the field all day.

In the end, ECCS were all out for 114 and the SACC won the match by

a record 136 runs with a bonus point. The ode was sung and the Ashes

regained and they are now proudly displayed back at Phattys where

    we think they rightly belong.

    GET IN THE SACC WITH....

James PinkardYouve gotta love the Bits.....

Bats and bowls left handed and does

both very well a real asset to the

Club. James was the SACC Player ofthe Year last season and had he not

missed the Semi Finals would have

taken out on the VCA gong as well!

Softly spoken but with a fire in the

belly and a love of the game, he

would have hated missing the Ashes

    trouncing on the weekend but

    would have loved the result.

    5TH DECEMBER

ISCS vs SSCSSC WON BY A COUPLE OF WICKETS

SACC vs ECCS SACC WON BY 136 RUNS

The Sri Lankan Sports Club notched up another victory lastSunday morning extending their undefeated run this season.

However, there were no bonus points this time as injuries and a

late batting collapse saw some nervous moments as they

chased 111 to win. SSC still top the League Ladder on 16 points

with the SACC now in second place on 11 points with a game in

hand. This sets up a huge game for the SACC against UCC as

they look to apply some pressure to the leaders. UCC have

started their campaign confidently this season and will be

looking put themselves in the mix with a big performance

against the Aussies. Good luck to all!
