Overview Note: You must assemble the receipt printer using the manufacturer's instructions before starting the

installation.

Complete the following steps to install the Star TSP100 receipt printer.

Step 1 - Basic Installation & Configuration

The first step is to install and configure the receipt printer to work with Millennium.

The second step is to customize the appearance of your receipts and/or connect a non-intelligent cash

Step 1 - Basic Installation & Configuration 1.1 - Change Windows Settings

The first step is to change settings in Windows.

Note: If you are installing the receipt printer on a Mac, you need to complete this step in the Windows

operating system.

Windows XP

Important: You do not need to change any settings in Windows XP. Refer to page 14 to proceed with

the next step of the installation.

Windows Vista

1. Access Windows with an administrator account.

2. Press Windows Logo+R or select Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run.

The Run window displays.

3. Type "sysdm.cpl" and press Enter.

The System Properties window displays.

4. Click the Advanced tab.

5. Click Settings in the Performance section.

The Performance Options window displays.

6. Click the Data Execution Prevention tab.

7. Select Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only.

8. Click OK until the System Properties window closes.

9. Right-click on the Windows desktop and select Personalize.

The Personalization screen displays.

10. Type "uac" in the Search field.

A list of search results displays.

11. Click Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off.

The Turn User Account Control On or Off screen displays.

12. Deselect Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer.

13. Click OK.

14. Click Restart Now.

15. Refer to page 14 to proceed with the next step of the installation.

1. Access Windows with an administrator account.

2. Click Start, type "sysdm.cpl", and press Enter.

The System Properties window displays.

13. Right-click on the Command Prompt app and select Run as administrator.

The Command Prompt displays.

14. Type "net user administrator /active:yes" and press Enter.

15. On the Start screen, type "control panel" and press Enter.

The Control Panel displays.

16. Click User Accounts.

17. Click Manage another account.

18. Click the Administrator account.

19. Click Change the password.

20. Type a password to use for the Administrator account.

21. Click Change password.

22. Restart the computer.

1. Access Windows with an administrator account.

6. Select Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only.

7. Click OK until the System Properties window closes.

8. On the Start screen, type "secpol.msc" and press Enter.

The Local Security Policy window displays.

9. Double-click Local Policies and double-click Security Options.

10. Scroll down to the end of the list and double-click the User Account Control: Run all administrators

in Admin Approval Mode policy.

The User Account Control window displays.

11. Select Disabled.

12. Click OK.

13. Restart the computer.

1.2 - Install the Receipt Printer Software

The next step is to install the receipt printer software.

Note: You must install the receipt printer software on the computer where you intend to use the

receipt printer. If you are installing the receipt printer on a Mac, you must complete the installation in

the Windows operating system.

PC 32-bit Operating System

1. Complete one of the following:

If you are not using the basic edition of Windows 8, access Windows with an administrator account.

If you are using the basic edition of Windows 8, access Windows with the Administrator account.

2. Connect the receipt printer to a USB port on the computer.

Important:

You must connect the receipt printer to a USB port on the computer and not a USB hub connected to

the computer.

Do not connect the receipt printer to an AC outlet before you install the receipt printer software.

3. Insert the installation CD.

The Installation screen displays.

4. Click Windows 32 bit OS.

The installation wizard displays.

5. Click Next.

The Customer Information screen displays.

6. Type your details and click Next.

The Setup Type screen displays.

7. Select Typical and click Next.

The Ready to Install the Program screen displays.

8. Click Install.

Tip: Click Install this driver software anyway if the Windows Security window displays.

The InstallShield Wizard Completed screen displays once the installation finishes.

9. Click Finish.

10. Select one of the following options:

If you are using Windows 7 or Windows 8, proceed to Step 11.

If you are not using Windows 7 or Windows 8, proceed to Step 13.

11. Move back to the Installation screen that displayed when you inserted the installation CD and click

Windows 7 32 bit PATCH.

The Command window displays and the patch file installs. The "Press any key to continue" message displays

once the installation finishes.

12. Press Enter.

13. Restart the computer.

14. Connect the receipt printer to an AC outlet and press the Power switch on the side of the

receipt printer.

15. Refer to page 30 to proceed with the next step of the installation.

8. Click Install.

Mac 32-bit Operating System (Boot Camp)

1. Restart the computer and hold down the Option key until the disk icons display.

2. Select the disk with the Windows operating system and click the arrow below the icon.

3. Complete one of the following:

If you are using the basic edition of Windows 8, access Windows with the Administrator account.

4. Connect the receipt printer to an AC outlet and press the Power switch on the side of the receipt

2. Connect the receipt printer to an AC outlet and press the Power switch on the side of the receipt

printer, and then connect the receipt printer to an available USB port on the computer.

Important: You must connect the receipt printer to a USB port on the computer and not a USB hub connected

to the computer.

The New USB device detected message displays.

3. Click the instance of Windows installed on your computer.

16. Access Parallels Desktop for Mac and select Devices > USB.

A list of USB devices displays and a check mark should display next to the receipt printer.

17. Select Devices > USB > Configure.

The Hardware Configuration screen displays.

Tip: If a check mark did not display next to the receipt printer, select the receipt printer and select Connected.

18. Click the lock in the bottom right corner of the screen and click OK.

19. Restart the computer.

20. Refer to page 30 to proceed with the next step of the installation.

32-bit Operating System (VMware Fusion)

1. Open VMware Fusion.

2. Connect the receipt printer to an AC outlet and press the Power switch on the side of the receipt

printer, and then connect the receipt printer to a USB port on the computer.

Important: You must connect the receipt printer to a USB port on the computer and not to a USB hub

connected to the computer.

3. Select Virtual Machine > Settings.

The Settings screen displays.

4. Click USB Devices in the Removable Devices list.

The USB Devices screen displays.

5. Select the check box next to the receipt printer and select "Connect to Windows" in the Plug In

Action field.

A notification displays asking if you want to connect the printer.

6. Click Connect to Windows.

7. Close the Settings window.

13. Select Devices > USB > Configure.

The Hardware Configuration screen displays.

Tip: If a check mark did not display next to the receipt printer, select the receipt printer and select Connected.

14. Click the lock in the bottom right corner of the screen and click OK.

15. Restart the computer.

16. Refer to page 30 to proceed with the next step of the installation.

1. Open VMware Fusion.

2. Connect the receipt printer to an AC outlet and press the Power switch on the side of the receipt

printer, and then connect the receipt printer to a USB port on the computer.

Important: You must connect the receipt printer to a USB port on the computer and not a USB hub connected

to the computer.

3. Select Virtual Machine > Settings.

The Settings screen displays.

4. Click USB Devices in the Removable Devices list.

1.3 - Configure the Receipt Printer Software

The next step is to configure the receipt printer software.

Notes:

You must complete this step on the computer where you installed the receipt printer software.

If you are installing the receipt printer on a Mac, you need to complete this step in the Windows

operating system.

1. Complete one of the following:

If you are not using the basic edition of Windows 8, access Windows with an administrator account.

If you are using the basic edition of Windows 8, access Windows with the Administrator account.

2. Complete one of the following:

Select Start > All Programs > StarMicronics > Star TSP 100 > Configuration Utility.

On the Start screen, type "configuration utility" and press Enter.

The Select an Emulation window displays.

3. Select Star Line Mode (default).

4. Click OK.

The Star Micronics TSP100 Configuration screen displays.

5. Click Serial Ports.

The Serial Ports screen displays.

6. Click Add Port.

The Input Port Name window displays.

7. Create a COM port between COM3 & COM5.

8. Click OK. Important: The entry in the Port Name field must be in uppercase.

9. In the Serial Port Emulator Service section, select "Automatic" in the Startup Type field.

10. Click Apply Changes. In the Serial Port Emulator Service, click Start.

11. In the Virtual Serial Port Name section, select COM4 and click Check Health.

The Check Health message displays and a test receipt prints.

Note: If a test receipt does not print, check the USB cable connection and click Check Health again. If you are

unable to get a test receipt to print, contact Business Support for further assistance.

12. Click OK.

13. Click Close.

1.4 - Configure Millennium

The next step is to configure the receipt printer settings in Millennium.

Note: You must complete this step in Millennium on the computer where you installed the receipt

printer software.

1. Access Millennium with an administrator account.

2. Select Data > Business Information and Preferences.

The Business Information window displays.

3. Click Edit.

4. Click the This Computer tab and click the Reports/Receipts tab.

5. Complete the following:

a) In the Receipt Printer field, select the COM port that was created in step 7 in section 1.3

b) In the Receipt Message field, type a message to print on the bottom of each receipt.

c) Select Print Receipts.

d) Select Paper Cutter.

e) In the Left field, select "0".

f) In the Copies field, select the number of copies of each receipt to print.

(64-bit operating systems only) In the Columns field, select "38" if you want to customize the

appearance of your receipts with images.

g) Select the Justification for the text to print with.

6. Complete the following as necessary:

a) Select the check box Print Receipts? to print a receipt with each transaction. If this checkbox

is unchecked, no itemized receipt will print.

b) Select Show Client/Emp On Each Line to display the names of the client and employee

associated with each item on the receipt.

c) Select Show Price + Service Charges in Line Item Pricing to include service charges in the

Tip: If you do not select this option, a Service Charge subtotal displays on the bottom of

receipts to indicate the total amount of service charges added for the services sold.

d) Select Retail Only to only print receipts for product sales.

Tip: If you do not select this option, a receipt will be print for all sales transactions.

7. Click Advanced Settings.

The Advanced Receipt Settings window displays.

8. Select Star Receipt Printer Installed.

9. Click Ok.

10. Click the Preferences tab and then click the Options tab.

11. Select "Register" in the Category field.

12. Move to the Preferences list and make selections using the following table as a guide:

Step 2 - Advanced Configuration 2.1 - Customize Receipts

If desired, you may customize receipts for your business.

Note: You must complete this step in Windows on the computer where you installed the receipt printer

software. Format can be changed in Millennium, and a business logo can be added to the receipt in the

TSP Configuration application.

1. Access Millennium with an administrator account.

2. Select Data > Business Information and Preferences.

The Business Information window displays.

3. Click Edit, click the This Computer tab, and click the Reports/Receipts tab.

4. Click Advanced Settings.

The Advanced Receipt Settings window displays.

5. Select TSP100 Printer Installed.

6. Complete the following as desired:

a) Select Bold Business Name to display the name of your business in bold type on all receipts.

b) Select Display Ticket # as Bar Code to print the ticket number as a bar code on the receipt. Click On Top

or On Bottom to specify the desired location of the bar code.

7. To add custom logos to your receipts, open the Start menu, type “devices and printers”, and press Enter. a) Right-click on the Star TSP printer, and select Printer Properties b) Select the TSP100 Config tab, and click Launch Configuration Application. c) Select Star Line Mode (default).

8. In the left sidebar, select Images List.

9. Click Add New, and select the desired logo image from your computer.

The Image import window displays. Here you can use the Width slider to adjust the size of your receipt image. You can set a name for the file here if you wish (if you do not, the image name will default to “Image1”). Click “Use Image” to proceed. The file name will now appear in the Image List field.

10. Click Apply Changes.

11. In the left sidebar, select Logos and Cropping.

The Logo Printing and Cropping window displays.

12. Select either the Top Image List or Bottom Image List section, depending on where you would like the image to appear on the receipt. In the appropriate section click Add, then select the name of the image you imported. Select whether you would like the logo on the left or right side of the receipt or centered.

14. Click Apply Changes, and click OK to close the TSP Configuration Application.

15. Click Use and click Ok.

2.2 - Connect a Cash Drawer

If you have a non-intelligent cash drawer, the next step is to connect the cash drawer to the receipt

printer so that the drawer works with Millennium.

Note: You must complete this step in Millennium on the computer where you have the receipt printer

connected.

32-bit Operating System

1. Connect the cash drawer and the receipt printer with the cash drawer cable.

2. Access Millennium with an administrator account.

3. Select Data > Business Information and Preferences.

The Business Information window displays.

4. Click Edit and click the This Cash Drawer tab.

5. Complete the following:

a) Select Cash Drawer Connected.

b) Select "BEL 7" in the Cash Drawer Code field.

c) Select "1" in the Send Code field.

d) Select "COM4" in the Cash Drawer Port field.

Important: You must select the port used for the receipt printer in the Cash Drawer Port field. If you

select an incorrect port, the cash drawer will not work.

6. Click Save.

7. Click Test Drawer.

If the cash drawer opens, the configuration is complete and the drawer is ready to use.

If the cash drawer does not open, verify you have the correct port selected in the Cash Drawer Port field

and click Test Drawer again.

Important: If you are unable to get the cash drawer to open, contact Business Support for further

assistance.

Troubleshooting Guide

Troubleshooting Guide

In the unlikely event that your receipt printer does not function correctly, refer to the following

guidelines to resolve any issues.

Issue Solution

A green light displays on the receipt printer but I cannot print a receipt

Make sure you have the receipt printer connected properly to the computer and to a power outlet.

Make sure you have the receipt printer connected to a USB port on the back of the computer and not a USB hub or port on the computer’s front panel.

Make sure you have the receipt printer configured to use the same COM port in both Millennium and the Star Micronics TSP100 Configuration Utility.

A flashing red light displays on the receipt printer Open the receipt printer and check the roll of paper.

If the roll is almost finished, insert a new roll.

If the paper is jammed, remove the jammed paper and then restart the printer.

If the roll is full and the paper is not jammed, there may be a problem with the power cable. Contact Business Support for further assistance.
