  • Remembrance Day Service

Our Remembrance Day service will be held at school on Friday 11th commencing at 10.50am at the Memorial Gates. There we will have our one minute silence and laying of wreaths. Members of the community are welcome to lay wreaths at this time. The remainder of the service will then take place in the undercover assembly area. Thank you to Phil Chapman and the rest of the Stanhope RSL for their continued support in organising this event.

    Grade 5/6 Camp

It is only 12 sleeps until the Grade 5/6 camp. Please keep an eye out for information and forms, which will be sent home with students over the next few days. Also, please be reminded that the FINAL DATE FOR PAYMENT IN FULL IS 11th NOVEMBER. Sporting Schools

This will take place every Thursday morning as part of our school PE curriculum. Snake Season

Please be aware that as the weather warms up, snakes are out and about—they have even been seen in our main street! Parents are asked to reinforce the message to their children to stay away from snakes & do not try to catch them. Even the bite from a baby snake can be fatal. Attached is a flyer with some useful tips.

  • Teach your child to be

    snake safe

    by Penny Whitehouse

What can you do to teach your child about the dangers of snakes?

It’s important to be prepared if you and your family live near the bush, are avid bushwalkers or love camping. Whist doing this activity, try not to dramatise the situation, keep to the facts and stay positive toward snakes.

Talk about why some snakes can be dangerous.

Some snakes have venom, others constrict their prey. The snakes with venom can be dangerous but they only use it to kill their prey and to defend themselves. It’s best to treat all snakes as venomous because it’s very hard to tell them apart.

Prevention is the best form of safety

If you are going into an environment where snakes may live it’s important to:

Wear closed-in shoes to protect your feet and ankles.

Stomp your feet more vigorously when you walk. Snakes can pick up vibrations through the ground and are inclined to slither away from you if they can feel you coming.

Keep an eye out for snakes. Remaining alert might mean that you see the snake before it sees you.

Leave it alone. People that get bitten by snakes are generally the ones doing the wrong thing. They may be trying to pick it up, throw stones at it or kill it. Snakes only bite if they feel threatened. If you leave them alone, you should have no problem at all.

Take a first aid kit with you and know how to administer first aid for a snake bite.

As with all Australian native animals, snakes are protected under the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and cannot lawfully be killed. (Education Qld)

Talk about what your child should do if they see a snake

It’s important not to panic if you see a wild snake. I know that can be hard, but the safest way to prevent a snake bite is to stand still and wait for the snake to move away from you. Once the snake is a good ten metres away, you can move back slowly.

  • Dear Parents / Guardians,

Thank you to students and families for their commitment to the Community Carols over

the past years. This is a great chance to showcase Stanhope Primary’s great students.

This year we have been invited to perform again on Friday 9th December. We will once

again be performing two songs on the night. This permission slip is for students and fami-

lies to commit to performing on the night because I need to know definite numbers before

deciding if we will be involved or not. If there is not enough interest and commitment then

    the students won’t be performing.

At this stage I am unsure of what time students will be required to perform, but it won’t be

later than 7.30pm. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

    Regards

    Sharon Sheedy

I ……………………………………………… give permission for my

child / children …………………………………..to attend the Stan-

hope Community Carols on Friday 9th December. The kindergar-

ten children will be performing with the school students.

I understand that I will be in attendance and supervise my own

child/ren on the night. Sharon Sheedy will only be in attendance

    to organise the performance items.

    ………………………………….(signature)

Please return this slip by Friday 11th November
