Looking for Things to Do in Adelaide? Hear about Melbourne’s Upcoming
Massive Wave Pool
Surfing is often included in the many lists of things to do in Adelaide. Because the city is blessedly close to sunny beaches that have great breaks, anyone who wants to
learn or enjoy this exciting activity is always welcome to try. So for those living in big cities that are far from the beach, like Melbourne, they definitely have the shorter
end of the stick. But not for long, though.
What We Know about Melbourne’s Massive Wave Pool
Surfing enthusiasts in Melbourne no longer have to travel for hours just to surf in nearby locations because they will be getting their own wave pool soon. The Victorian capital,
which is often involved with the “which city is best” war with rival Sydney, is reportedly set to build a wave pool
that is bigger than the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Folks from URBNSURF Melbourne have confirmed that a wave pool twice the size of the MCG, which is the tenth-
largest stadium in the world and can seat more than 100,000 people, will be constructed on a site on Airport
Drive in Tullamarine.
Wave Park Group, a company based in Western Australia, is said to have secured the site under a 30-year lease.
They will spend at least $18.5 million to build the wave pool complex.
Once the wave pool complex has been completed, Melburnian surfers, body-boarders, and bodysurfers can enjoy man-made waves with rides that are expected to last longer than those you’d normally see at Victorian
beaches. Wave Park Group Chairman Andrew Ross also revealed that the wave pool has everything for everyone.
According to Ross, thanks to the “Wavegarden technology” to be utilized at the wave pool complex, they
can accommodate the needs of all surfers, from the beginners and the smallest groms to elite surfing athletes. But if you think surfing is the only thing you can do at the wave pool, think again. According to URBNSURF, the wave pool complex will also have a climbing wall, mountain bike
track, and a parkour trail.
So when can Melbourne’s surfing enthusiasts enjoy this massive wave pool? According to reports, construction is
expected to start next year and if everything goes according to plan, the park will have a grand opening
before 2018.
Enjoy the Sun and Surf at Your Own TurfIf you don’t have important or pressing things to do in
Goolwa, you might want to take the time travel and check out Melbourne’s gargantuan wave pool park once it’s completed. But if you neither have the time nor the
budget, you can always enjoy the sun, the sea, and the surf at your own home turf. After all, nothing beats the
real thing. For a true surfing enthusiast, nothing feels like surfing at sea.
Don’t know how to surf yet? Don’t fret! There are many good surf camps in South Australia that can teach you
how to surf. Whether you’re a complete beginner or you have a bit of experience, you will surely find someone
who can show you the ropes. As such, whenever you have a free time, make sure to include “learn to surf” in your
