Ordering blood products
If you encounter any issues, please report them through Metavision QMS or RL6 (intranet incident
reporting)
Haemobank issues:
o Scanning product (Cerner bridge issue)
o Label being place on the wrong side of the bag covering the bar code rendering the product unable
to be scanned.
RBCs:
o for every 5 units ordered, we are transfusing 1 unit
o Patients with antibodies, blood will come in a cooler
Plasma:
o typically not an emergency, can be assigned within 5 minutes
o we are trying to reduce waste
** We need to move away from ordering 4 RBCs / 4 FFP on patients **
Placing an ordered for blood in EPIC
o Err on the low side, blood is available in Haemobank
o Once you place the order, please call the Blood Bank (8-5630) to give them a heads up (for now)
Preoperative evaluations:

2018 ANNUAL TRAINING: UMMS U
Annual training opened on April 1st and must be completed by July 1, 2018.
Completion of annual training is mandatory for all UMMS employees.
This year the annual training will be completed on UMMS U (the system that replaced Healthstream)
To access UMMS U and complete your annual training, log in to your HRConnections account and click
on the UMMS U link.

Exploring ideas/options to help alleviate the need for 7A staff to stay beyond their shift on which seems to
be a fairly regular basis o One possibility would be to add a call shift from 18:45 – 22:45 o Look for a survey in your email inbox soon
New residents start July 1st
o For the months of July, August & September we will be shifting a 7A CRNA to the 11A shift o Alternate option would be to add 1 CRNA from 18:45 – 22:45

IMPRV is a continuous improvement framework and business engagement strategy designed to improve
the patient experience, reduce operational waste, and transform the culture. IMPRV was founded upon UM
UCH’s Culture of Excellence and leverages industry-leading techniques and tools from Lean, Six Sigma,
Business Process Reengineering, and Project and Change Management disciplines. This 6.5 hour training
day will review each of the 5 steps of the process improvement cycle and teach core tools and concepts to
facilitate your own quality or process improvement project. This class is best for providers who are
passionate about quality improvement and lead collaborative improvement efforts.
