PTA News Our April meeting will be Thursday, April 5, at 6:30 in the conference room. All are welcome, come join us if you are interested in learning more about the PTA. We are seeking nominations for PTA officers for the 2018-19 school year. For more infor-mation, contact Kerri at ker-

[email protected].

Thanks to everyone who has supported the PTA this year

at the book fair, Fun Night, through fundraisers, and by sending in your Ken’s and Kessler’s receipts and Box Tops. Please keep sending these in as we make about $1500 every school year

through these programs.

Watch for summer opportunities to en-hance your child’s “warm weather” learning. Check the Public Library, the Aberdeen Parks and Recreation De-partment, or begin planning a family outing!

Kindergarten Registration and Open House

The Aberdeen Public Schools are in the process of registering Kinder-garten students for the 2018-2019

school year.

Please stop by the Lincoln School office between 8:00AM and 3:30PM to register your child. When you come, please bring a certified copy of the child’s birth certificate, their shot records, and a

proof of address document.

Children need to be 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2018 in order to attend the 2018-2019

school year.

There will be an Open House for all REGISTERED families on Thursday, April 19th from 3:30-4:30PM. If you are not registered, please do so as

soon as possible.

Students and parents are welcome to come meet with Kindergarten teachers and tour the school and

classrooms.

A letter will be sent home to all REGISTERED families with specific information regarding the open

house.

Please register your child now, so you can attend this fun and in-

formative event!

will now be

All families that have moved out of

Lincoln Elementary’s boundaries MUST

fill out a transfer request in order to

continue at Lincoln next year. Families

who have been granted a transfer re-

quest for the current school year do

not need to apply again next year un-

less there has been a change of ad-

dress. If a family who has been granted

a transfer request has a new kindergar-

ten child entering school next year,

they MUST turn in a transfer request

for the kindergarten student. Just be-

cause a family was granted a request

this year, DOES NOT mean that their

kindergarten student will automatically

go to the requested school as the rest

of the family does. The District will do

everything possible, however, to grant

those requests.

If you have an approved elementary

transfer request and the student will

be attending middle school next year,

you may want to check your middle

school attendance area. Some families

are surprised that their child will not

be attending the same middle school as

their classmates because of a previous-

ly approved elementary transfer re-

quest. Consequently, unless you live

within a middle school boundary, it

will be necessary for you to complete

a middle school transfer request. To

determine what boundaries your ad-

dress falls into, please check the ap-

proved boundaries map located here:

Medication Guidelines

The Aberdeen School District rec-

ognizes that some students need to

receive medication during the

school day. The School Board per-

mits the dispensation of medication

in school when the student’s health

and continuing attendance so re-quires and when the medication is

administered in accordance with

the School Board policy and regula-

tions.

If your child needs to take medica-

tion during the school day, the fol-

lowing guidelines must be followed

to ensure the safety of all students.

Students at the elementary and

middle school are not allowed to

self-administer prescription or non-

prescription medication with the

exception of insulin, cough drops

or medication specifically referred

to in board policy JLCD-R.

1. Prescription medication

must be delivered to the

school office by the parent/

guardian. The medication will

be counted by school staff and

the parent/guardian.

2. Prescription medication shall be in pharmacy la-

beled containers, including

the student’s name, name of the

drug, dosage to be taken, name

of the physician and date of the

prescription.

3. Non-prescription medica-

tion must be in the original

container/package. Medica-

tion cannot be brought to

school in envelopes or baggies.

4. The parent/guardian must com-

plete the Parent Request for

Assistance with Medication

Form.

5. It is the responsibility of the

student to come to the office

to take the medication.

6. It is the responsibility of the

parent/guardian to pick up un-

used medication on or before

the last day of school or one week after the last dose is giv-

en. If the medication is not

picked up it will be destroyed.

The Aberdeen School District neither endorses nor sponsors the organization or activity represented in

this document. The distribution of this material is provided as a community service.

Middle School Instrument Selection

Holgate Middle School: Monday, April 23rd, 4-7 pm @

HMS Gym

If your student would like to be in band but missed registration, you may add band to their schedules

at this event.

If you have questions, please con-tact Jim Panerio at Simmons Mid-dle School, 725-7937 or Sara Weischedel at Holgate Middle School, 725-7745.

All 5th grade students registered for band in middle school need to attend Instrument Try-out Night. The instrument your child plays in band next year is based upon this try-out. The event is "come and go" and gives your student a chance to find which instrument "fits" him/her. Parents are encour-

aged to attend with their child.
