(I cleaned this week!)

Dear Parishioners:

A recent online article I read stated that 60% of adults living in the United States will have made New Year’s resolutions for 2020. Sadly, that same article stipulat-ed that only 8% will achieve their New Year’s resolu-tions. The top 10 New Year’s resolutions for 2020, according to this article: 1. Doing my New Year’s res-olution; 2. Trying something new; 3. Eat more of my favorite foods; 4. Lose weight/diet; 5. Go to the gym; 6. Be happier/better mental health; 7. Be more healthy; 8. Be a better person; 9. Upgrade my technology; and 10. Staying motivated. Personally, I am partial to number 3, but then, again, that leads into 4 and 5, neither of which I am interest-ed in pursuing for the New Year. I guess that is what you call a Catch 22, huh? In chapter four of Matthew Kelly’s Rediscover the Saints, the question is asked, “Do your daily routines reinvigorate you?” This got me thinking about the gift of time and how I spend it. I must confess that I spend more time than I should sitting in front of the televi-sion watching sports, especially in the evening and at night. I could spend this time wiser. The last line of chapter 4, reads: “Every aspect of Jesus’ teachings en-courages us to recognize the few things that are really important and to give those things priority in our lives.” This year I look forward to spending more time in prayer, reading, and personal study. Or maybe I will find a hobby! Here is to the New Year! In whatever way we choose to spend our time, may we find ourselves growing closer to the God Who made us and loves us. Have a blessed week! Fr. Rob

Church in Latin America Collection

The archdiocese will be taking up a collection the week-end of January 25-26, 2020. This collection helps to share the faith in regions like the mountainous Andahuaylas Province of Peru, where most of the people of the Tala-vera District speak Quechua. To better minister to these people, the parish of Santiago Apostol led a project to pre-pare Quechua-language audiovisual materials about evan-gelization and Sacred Scripture. The parish also created digital materials and furnished a room to serve as a library to hold these and other resources. By supporting this collection, you help share the faith more fully with underserved indigenous peoples in remote areas of Latin America.
