I love listening and reading the Deuterocanonical books --Tobit, Judith, 1st and 2nd of Maccabees, Wisdom of Solomon, Ecclesiasticus (or Sirach), and Baruch -- of the Old Testament. From the first reading of this Sunday, we have this verse from Sirach: “My child, be humble in everything you do and people will appreciate it more than gifts.” (Sirach 3:17) In today’s gospel of Luke, Jesus taught his disciples about humility in these words: “For those who make themselves great will be humble, and those who humble themselves will be made great.” (Luke 14:11) To me, the Bible, particularly the Deuterocanonical books, leads me to understand myself; guides my steps; bring me joy; gives me peace; and, most importantly, the Bible bring me back to God when I go a different direction. I have learned that life is not about me; that my ideas are not the only ones that matter and/or important. There are so much that I don’t know, that I can’t do. I realize my sinfulness, and understand my limitations. And I commit myself to learn and serve with the gifts and strengths and use them as Christ directs me in my ministry as parish priest. I encourage all of you to read the seven deuterocanonical books. Pay extra attention to the book of Sirach, you will be richly blessed.

Me encanta escuchar y leer los libros Deuterocanónicos - Tobías, Judit, 1ra y 2da de Macabeos, Sabiduría, Eclesiástico y Baruc - del Antiguo Testamento. La primera lectura de este domingo, tenemos este verso del Eclesiástico: “Hijo mío, se humilde en todo lo que hagas, y te estimaran más que al que hace muchos regalos.” (Eclesiástico 3:17) En el evangelio de Lucas, Jesús enseñó a sus discípulos acer-ca de la humildad con estas palabras: “Porque el que a si mis-mo se engrandece, será humillado; y el que se humilla será engrandecido.” (Lucas 14:11) Para mí, la Biblia, en particular los libros Deuterocanónicos, me llevan a la comprensión de mí mismo; guía mis pasos; me trae alegría; me da paz; y, sobre todo, la Biblia me regresa al camino de Dios cuando voy por mal camino. He aprendido que la vida no se trata de mí; que mis ideas no son las únicas que importan y / o son importantes. Hay tanto que no sé, que yo no puedo hacer. Ahora me doy cuenta de mi pecado, y entiendo mis limitaciones. Y me comprometo a aprender y a servir con los dones y fortalezas y utilizarlas como Cristo me guie en mi ministerio como párroco. Animo a todos a que lean los siete libros Deuterocanónicos. Presten mucha atención al libro del Eclesiástico será para uste-des una gran bendición.

God Is Calling You to a Deeper Rela+onship with Him

If we consider that God is the Divine Bridegroom and the

Church is his Bride, then the prophets can be seen as “spiritual

marriage counselors.” They afflict the comfortable and comfort

The Knights of Co- lumbus, Southwest Council 3910, will be hosting a Back To School Taco breakfast/Fajita Taco lunch on Sunday, August 30th after the 7:30, 9, 11, and 1PM masses in Servant Hall. The proceeds will go to “Changing lives through mobility” for our country’s Veterans. Tacos will be $2 each. Please come and enjoy the fellowship after Mass.

Iris Espinosa. Iris Espinosa is a 7th

and 8th

Grade Social Studies teacher and Student Council Sponsor at STM. She has been teaching for 3 years. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Arts from Texas

State University. Ms. Espinosa is the 7th

of 8 children in her family. She loves traveling the world, Broadway musicals, and Shakespeare in the Park. Ms. Espinosa says “I love teaching at STM because it is like my second family. It is amazing to see students thrive both educa+onally and spiritually. I am blessed to work with so many talented teachers. I am a product of Catholic educa+on and I look back on my years at Catholic school with great fondness. It is my hope that our students may one day share similar feelings about their years at St. Thomas More.”

Teatrales de la Universidad Estatal de Texas. La Maestra Espinosa es sép-ma de 8 niños en su familia. A ella le encanta

viajar por el mundo, los musicales de Broadway, y Shakespeare en el Parque. La maestra Espinosa dice " Me encanta en-

señar a STM porque es como mi segunda familia. Es increíble ver a los estudiantes prosperar tanto educa-vamente y

espiritualmente. Estoy bendecida de trabajar con tantos maestros talentosos. Soy un producto de la educación católica y

miro hacia atrás en mis años en la escuela católica con gran cariño. Tengo la esperanza de que nuestros estudiantes pue-
