HOPE, one of the seven gifts we receive at Confirmation from
the Holy Spirit.
November and December are months that focus on the gift of
Hope. As Members of the Knights of Columbus there are many
times we offer Hope to our Brother Knights, Families,
neighbours and to those in our Community and in the World at
large. Each time we pray the Apostles Creed at Sunday Mass we
pray, “I believe ..in the resurrection of the body and life ever-
lasting.” This is a basic teaching of our Faith, our Belief and
Hope in eternal life with our God. In November we celebrate
this Hope on Monday evening November 12th
at our Memorial
Mass, where we remember our deceased Brother Knights.
Please attend and support Brother Ray Smith in
coordinating/organizing this annual event.
As we approach the Christmas season we wait in Hope for the
Birth of our Saviour Jesus. From the first Sunday of Advent
December 2nd
to Christmas December 25th
, we will be challenged
to prepare our hearts and minds for the Birth of Our Saviour.
We will pray in the Hope of His coming and bringing Salvation
to the entire World. Once again under the direction of Brother
Ray Smith we will be holding our “Light Up for Christmas”
event, where we will be formally presenting to our Parish the
Christmas Manger - date to be determined, watch for Parish
bulletin announcement.
May this Christmas Season be one of fulfilled Hope and
Blessings to All Brother Knights, their Families and Friends.
Vivat Jesus

KNIGHT FACTOIDS: DID YOU KNOW THAT…….
The Knights in Canada
In 2010 the Knights of Columbus helped finance a documentary on the life of St. André
Bessette, the first Canadian-born male saint. God’s Doorkeeper was produced by
Canada’s Salt + Light Television.
Knights from every province in Canada have donated wheelchairs to the Order’s
campaign to help disabled people in Mexico, Central and South America, as well as in
Haiti and Afghanistan.
Canadian Knights have also been key supporters and participants in Canada’s annual
March for Life in the national capital of Ottawa each May, as well as in every provincial
capital.

PRO-LIFE CORNER Br. David Caracciolo
FINANCIAL SECRETARY’S REMARKS Br. Dale Tuepah
There have been some positive developments on the Pro-Life front in recent months, both in
Kingston and nationally.
Assistance to Mothers - our parish supported the Kingston Pregnancy Care Centre by donating
over $1,900 to their 2012 Baby Bottle fund-raiser. In addition our council donated another
$200. This Centre has seen visits by expectant mothers double in the last few years. And most
of them choose to carry their baby to term.
Political - Motion 312, that a committee study when human life begins, received 93 Yea votes in
Parliament recently. That was many more than were expected, even though it was defeated.
Next up is a Motion 408 to condemn (not ban, yet) sex-selective abortions.
Information - In contrast to most mainstream media outlets, Life Site News is a good on-line
source of news about the struggle for Life, and Family. For a free subscription go to
http://www.lifesitenews.com/subscribe
Prayer - a small group has been praying the Rosary for Life at St. James Chapel every Friday at
7:15 AM. Maybe we could start something similar at St. Paul's. Prayer is our greatest weapon in
the struggle for Life.
Vivat Jesus!

From Howard Gallivan, Co-Chair of the Fish Fry
Dear Ladies and Brother Knights,
This year’s Fish Fry was a financial success and realized a profit of $1344.20 for charity.
I want to thank the ladies who donated desserts and the members and wives who donated their services
throughout the evening. I must confess that I was anxious about how this event would play out, since there was
no formal planning meeting or any follow up meetings to tie up loose ends. But thanks to the capability of the
individual committee members carrying out leadership roles and the experienced volunteers doing what needed to
be done when it needed to be done, it ran smoothly and was one of the most efficiently run events that I have ever
chaired. THANK YOU!
Vivat Jesus!

Remember, Remember the Days of …… November, December thru to May!! It’s Raffle Ticket Sales Time!
Howard Gallivan, Chair of the successful Arthritis Car Raffle sales in 2011/2012, and now Chair of the 2012/2013 Raffle Sales writes: After attending monthly meetings and events such as the Fish Fry, the Spaghetti dinner, and the First Degree this month, it is obvious to me that only a small percentage of our members are participating. We need all our members to help out!
Please give some serious thought to helping more. We need you! Our council will begin selling car raffle tickets in November. We have two bookings at Canadian Tire store and four confirmed bookings in the Cataraqui mall. We need volunteers to sell tickets at these locations. Please be prepared to be called and please say yes when asked to sell tickets at these locations. We also need you to help by selling tickets on your own. Set a goal to sell as many books as you can. Remember when you became a Knight you willingly accepted the responsibility to serve in the council and to help our council serve the needs of our community. This can only be done by you rolling up your sleeves and working in our
programs. Please help us! Vivat Jesus!

From Br. Val and Shirley Dumais: OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD …………
Is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief and development
organization. We are able to bless the lives of children living in the developing world by
packing gift-filled shoe boxes with a variety of toys, school supplies and hygiene items. Each
shoe box communicates the simple message of God’s love to the child who receives it.
Last year, Canadians sent 672,274 shoe boxes to needy children around the world. This year,
children in 16 countries in Central and South America and Africa will be receiving these shoe
box gifts.
For information, call Val or Shirley Dumais at 613-544-2677, or pick up a shoe box in the
church entrance. Instructions are in the shoe boxes.

A contribution from Walter Genereux
[A friend in England sent this to me. Interesting moral to this story.]
THE WINDOW
A young couple moves into a new neighborhood.
The next morning while they are eating breakfast, The young woman sees her neighbor hanging the Wash outside.
"That laundry is not very clean", she said. "She doesn't know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap."
Her husband looked on, but remained silent.
Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry, The young woman would make the same comments.
About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a
Nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband:
"Look, she has learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her this."
The husband said, "I got up early this morning and
Cleaned our windows."
And so it is with life. What we see when watching others Depends on the purity of the window through which we look!
IF GOD SHOULD GO ON STRIKE
How good it is that God above Has never gone on strike, Because he was never treated fair, In things He didn`t like. If only once he’d given up And said, “That’s it, I’m through! I’ve had enough of those on earth So this is what I’ll do. I’ll give my orders to the sun Cut off the heat supply, And to the moon give no more light, And run the oceans dry. Then just to make things really tough And put the pressure on, Turn off the vital oxygen till Every breath is gone!”
You know he’d be justified If fairness was the game, For no one has been more abused Or met with more disdain than God. And yet he carries on Supplying you and me With all the favours of his grace And everything for free. Men say they want a better deal And so on strike they go, But what a deal we’ve given God, To whom all things we owe. We don’t care whom we hurt To gain the things we like, But what a mess we’d all be in, If God should go on strike

Editor’s Note Br. Aubert Pereira
The months of September and October have seen the Council hold two of its traditional events – Fish Fry, Fri. 21
st September, Spaghetti Dinner, Sat. 13
th
October. November promises to be a busy month also, with the Icon of Our lady of Guadalupe (7
th), Memorial Mass (12
th) and the “Light Up for Christ” Nativity
Scene being set up and formally “Lit” on Sat 1st December.
In this issue, note the introduction of a new feature, the Pro-Life Corner, with Davcid Caracciolo as the contributor. The picture of the three Kings bearing gifts for Our Lord reminds us that there is a serious side to the Season, other than parties and presents. Spare a moment or two reflecting on what Christmas is really about.

Phoebe and I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

One of These Days…
To those shepherds so long ago, it was
just another ordinary day, or night, on
the job. They didn't know that they
would soon be visited by angels, or
that it would be the night of the
Messiah's (Jesus) long awaited arrival
on earth. Jesus tells us in Matthew
24:36-44 that his return will also
come one of these days when we are
not expecting it, and that we "must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not
expect him."
