Please see our Parish Website for the latest information on Live Streamed & Outdoor Public Masses
At this time a Dispensation from the Obligation to Attend Mass is given to all Catholics in the Diocese of San Jose.
Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is a
guideline of how human beings, all sons and
daughters of God, are meant to live in society.
The Teaching is grounded in Rerum Novarum,
an encyclical wri en by Pope Leo XII in 1891,
and numerous other conciliar documents up
to the present, the most recent being Laudato
Si authored by Pope Francis in 2015. The
Teaching encompasses all that
God has created – see Genesis 1: 1-31.
Care for God’s Crea on is the 7th
CST.
We show our love and respect for God by our
stewardship of crea on. Care for the earth is not
just an Earth Day slogan, it is a requirement of our
faith. We are called to protect people and the
planet, living our faith in rela onship with all of
God’s crea on. In the news headlines we read
about numerous ecological issues: lack of potable water for humans and animals,
pollu on of air and earth, and scien fic informa on of the reality of climate
change, etc. The environmental Teaching has fundamental moral and ethical
dimensions that cannot be ignored. We must each consider our role in
safeguarding crea on.
♦ A recent Na onal Catholic Reporter ar cle* reported that in 2018 sixteen
U.S. Congrega ons of Dominican Sisters pooled more than $46 million to
establish a new investment funds ini a ve aimed at financing solu ons to
address climate change and assist at risk communi es worldwide. Today,
with addi onal capital investments, the funds have grown to $130 million.
♦ Locally Mission San Jose Dominican Sisters, of Fremont, CA, are engaging
in socially responsible inves ng, and beyond financing the Sisters have set
aside por ons of their proper es as land trusts to protect them from future
development. These Dominican Sisters once taught at St. William School.
Thank you, Sisters, for your con nuing witness and ministry.

PRAYER TO OVERCOME
INDIFFERENCE Prayer from USCCB
All too o en, Lord, we turn away
from the world's many problems,
which seem too big,
too complex, or too far away.
Forgive us our indifference.
It is easier, Lord, to see only
what is around us: our lives,
our homes, our challenges.
Forgive us our isola on.
Help us to see with your eyes:
eyes which no ce one another
and help us understand.
Help us to dream your dream:
of communi es that reach out
and dialogue and where diverse
people crea vely cooperate.
Help us to be people of solidarity
and ac on, so moved by prayer,
encounter, and understanding
that peace can become a reality.
Amen.
As we “shelter in place,”
I am reminded of how o en the
image of sheltering is used in the
psalms, in songs, in prayers. May
we be keenly aware of how God
is that shelter for us, and may we
be that for each other and for the
world so in need of mercy.
