“Then they opened their treasures and offered Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and
myrrh.” — Matthew 2:11
The image of the Magi kneeling before the infant Jesus and opening their treasure
chests for Him is an image of Stewardship that we should all try to follow each day. In
gratitude for all that we have been given, we are called to generously share all of our gifts, not just the ones we pick and choose. God
wants us to be generous with everything, but especially that one thing that means the

A custom in homes of many countries including Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Hungary, Poland and Sweden is to inscribe above the front doors the letters C † M † B, placing a cross between each letter. This is done every year on the Epiphany of the Lord, commemorating the Wise-
men being led by the star to the manger. The legendary names of the Magi were Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar. Many people interpret the
three letters as the initials of those names. In reality these letters originate from the Latin phrase “Christus Mansem Benedicat” (May Christ bless this home). This religious custom expresses the belief that the Lord remains
with His people throughout the year.
Sts. Cyril & Methodius: On Sunday, January 5th we will need volunteers to stay after the 8:30 a.m. Mass to help take down
the Christmas decorations. St. Michael’s: On Monday, January 6th beginning at 8:30 a.m.,
volunteers are needed to take down the Christmas decorations.

FACILITY USE BY ORGANIZA-TIONS, BIBLE STUDY
LEADERS, GROUP, ETC
Parish Organizations, Bible Study Leaders, Groups, etc. using the church facilities (Parish Hall, Family Life Center, Step-down Room, Meet-ing Room, CCD Building, etc.) during the year MUST come to the Parish Office to book your dates. If you know your date for 2020 you MUST book it at the first of every year. Do not as-sume that the office staff will know that you have a particular date you use every year and they should re-member! If you do not book your dates, there is a possibility that the facility or room you are requesting may have already been booked or reserved. We know that dates or last minute events cannot be booked at the first of the year; however, be aware that your requested facility or room may already be booked and will not be changed. A representative from the Organization, Bible Study or Groups MUST come into the Parish Office and fill out a request form for date and facility or room needed. Also, a representative is responsible for getting a key prior to the event and returning it promptly after event. (This notice is for Sts. Cyril & Methodi-us and St. Michael’s Facilities.)

Confirmation & First Communion Candidates must have a sincere intention of participating in Mass every week. Participating in the Eucharistic life of the commu-nity is both a privilege and an obligation of baptized Catholics. This is also an im-portant way that parents demonstrate to their children the importance they place on their faith they want to pass on to their children. When we worship as a community, we build up the Body of Christ.
Confirmation & First Communion Mass attendance cards are found on the back table in both churches.
Please fill one out each week and drop it into the box.

As a parish, we are grateful to those parishioners who give of their time serving in a ministry during Mass. In recent months we have experienced a significant amount of liturgical minister no-shows. The ministry schedule is published in the bulletin the weekend prior to the first weekend of the next month. Be sure to notify the parish office at (979) 742-3383 of any known scheduling issues, such as vacations, business, etc. that would make you unavailable on a certain day or time period for the coming month, so the schedule may be prepared appropriately. Please report NO LATER than 15 minutes prior to the Mass start time. This will reduce the turmoil that arises in trying to find a replacement in such a very short notice. It is your responsibility to attempt to find a replacement when you are scheduled but cannot serve. A list of all the ministers and their phone numbers can be found in the Priest’s Sacristy. You can use this list to help find a replacement. If you are not assigned to help at Mass that day and would like to assist if needed, please check in before Mass begins. Appearance is important in the Church. We encourage you to always dress like you have come to do something important, that is, to worship God. That way if you need to fill in as a minister, you will be properly dressed. Thanks for doing what you are doing. It is a great service to the parish and all of the effort you make is deeply appreciated.
*If anyone is interested in volunteering for any of our ministries or have questions, please contact the Parish Office at (979) 742-3383.
