Adoration Update We have Adoration in the Chapel from
9 am- 9 pm Monday through Friday.
Commit to one hour with Him in Adoration. Time spent
in quiet prayer enriches the soul. When you set aside a
scheduled hour, it makes sure that there is someone always with
Christ during these times in the Chapel. We must never have it
unattended so your presence is vital. It just involves signing up
for a time that is convenient to your schedule and
conscientiously coming to chapel for that hour.

6:00pm; and Wednesday, February 7th at 6:00pm in the
St. Paul Center. This year’s “cold and flu season” is
especially bad… if your child is sick, they MUST be
symptom-free (fever, cough, vomit, etc.) for a full 24 hours
before sending them to class! Please wash your hands
frequently and use sanitizer! We do have very limited space
available for late CCE registrations; please contact Mike in
the Formation Office for availability of dates and grades.
We are still looking for a few new catechists to replace those
who can no longer teach, particularly on Sunday afternoons
(3:00pm - 4:30pm) or Tuesday evenings (6:00pm - 7:30pm).
Please contact Mike in the Formation Office for grades and
dates… training is provided.
2018 Confirmation CLASS:
Our fourth Confirmation session is coming
up on Wednesday, February 7th from 7:00 - 9:00pm in the Family Life Center (FLC).
These sacrament classes do not take the place of CCE; only two Wednesday classes can be missed before the student is dropped from the 2018 Confirmation class.
All candidates should have already turned in copies
of their Baptism and First Communion certificates,
and turned in the $175.00 Confirmation Retreat fee.
If you have not, please stop by the CCE Office or Parish Office to turn those items in immediately!
Please continue working on service forms, as they are not due until February 28, 2018.
ALL 2018 candidates are expected to attend the
6:00pm Ash Wednesday service next week; there
is no 7:00pm Confirmation class afterwards.

Breaking Open the Word for Families Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
By: Ginger Herrington
Reading 1: Job 7:1-4, 6-7
My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, says Job. Job had it all – a great relationship with God,
a happy family, success in business, many friends. God allowed Job to be tested by losing everything. Even though his
life felt like “drudgery”, that he was a “slave”, Job trusted in the Lord and hoped in Him.
Reading 2: First Corinthians 9:16-19, 22-23
I have made myself a slave to all, declares St. Paul. Why is Paul a slave? He was a Roman citizen and a Pharisee –
a free man. He willingly became a slave for the sake of the Gospel. Yet he knew that he was free because Christ died
for all, to free us all from sin and death. Blessed be the Lord!
Gospel: Mark 1:29-39
Jesus went off to a deserted place to pray. Jesus was preaching and healing and exorcising demons; then He spent
time in prayer before going out to preach and heal and exorcise the next day. Many times we see Jesus praying. He’s
not only giving us an example to follow. He did everything in union with the Trinity, which is best
experienced in prayer. Follow Jesus’ example and pray every day to obtain the strength you need to serve
God.
