Prep Newsletter Friday

22nd April 2016

Dear Parents,

We have enjoyed the start to the term, catching up with friends and settling back into the rigour of academic life. ‘Alice the Musical’, the Y3 - 6 play is coming on well with the children feeling more confident about the song words and their acting.

The Queen’s 90th Birthday lunch in the Prep School

In assemblies this week the girls have learned more about the Queen and her family.

...she is the longest reigning Monarch in British history?

...she owns all of the dolphins around the UK?

...she doesn’t need a passport to visit other countries around the world?

Yesterday we celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday in many ways throughout the Prep School with children taking part in a variety of activities, examples included - making Union Jack flags, designing crowns and dresses, putting together an afternoon tea menu, learning the royal family tree, singing Happy Birthday to the Queen and learning ‘The National Anthem’. At lunchtime we had a traditional British lunch, family style. The Dining Room was decorated with Union Jack flags and music such as ‘The National Anthem’ and Elgar’s ‘Pomp and Circumstance’ was played to enhance the atmosphere. There was quite a festive atmosphere and much excitement in the air!

St George’s Day

Today it has been lovely seeing our Rainbows, Brownies, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts wearing their uniform in celebration of tomorrow’s St George’s Day.

Year 1

This week the children have been planning an adventure story called 'The Magic Shell'.

They have been thinking about how to use

interesting story language and how to use a variety of

punctuation, similes and alliteration. The children are excited about writing their stories next week, almost as much as I am

looking forward to reading them!

All the children had great fun at the lunch for the Queen's birthday! We coloured in Union flags in red, white

and blue; some children even designed their own colourful flags. We learnt about how the Union flag was made up of different flags from the UK, in particular looking at the England flag in preparation for St.

George's Day.

We have been learning about Time. We have learnt both analogue and digital times.

We decided to have a think about our favourite time of the day and show the time on our clocks.

These are the times we decided upon –
