Prep Newsletter Friday
13th November 2015
Dear Parents and Friends,
We had a wonderful start to our week with a visit
by Rev. Farrar. He spoke to us about motivation
and set us all on the right track for another
fantastically busy week here in Prep.
On Monday evening our Netball team played St.
Helen’s, please see Katie’s excellent report.
On Wednesday our Year 5 & 6 girls joined the
Senior School for a very special and thoughtful
Remembrance Day assembly.

Netball match by Katie, Sports Captain
On Monday our netball teams had matches against St. Helen’s. There
were two teams, the A and the B team. The A team drew 1-1 and the B
team lost 2-0 but played a lot better than the last game. We look forward
to playing more matches against other teams.
I have collected some opinions from some of the girls who played in the
netball match.
Suzie: “I think that was the best game we had played and we all knew
where to go and stayed together as a team.”
Roxanna: “We had lots of fun and it was quite exciting.”
Sienna: “We did lots of running, it was a fun match to play. We did a lot
better than last time.”

Reception
This week we have made
some lovely firework
splatter paint artwork, a
group bonfire collage and
some 3D fireworks.
Year 1 have been
solving missing
number sums and
word problems
relating to
subtraction this
week. Some of
our budding
mathematicians
have even been
writing their own
subtraction word
problems. Well
done Year 1!
Year 1
Year 2
Numbers, numbers, numbers!
More than, less than, before, after, in between, halfway. . .
Year 2 have been thinking all about numbers this week!
Year 3
We made masks to be worn at the Capulet Ball. It was very
exciting to design them. We stuck interesting things on
them to make them really beautiful.
If our masks had been worn by Romeo, Lord and Lady
Capulet and Tybalt would certainly not have been able to
recognise him.
We put the masks on and Mrs Franklin was not able to
recognise us at all!
Year 4
Year 4 are studying Pop Art. We have started our
paintings and have a few more touches to add until we
have finished. Here are a couple that are almost complete:
Scarlet
Riana
Year 5
As part of our history project about the Victorians
Year 5 have been designing wallpaper based on the
designs by William Morris. The wallpaper will be
used to create a miniature room using a shoe box.
Here’s one of the designs so far.
Did you know that the Victorians originally used
arsenic in the making of wallpaper to create the vivid
colours? Unfortunately this lead to many illnesses
and deaths. Initially the manufacturers were reluctant
to admit that it was the wallpaper that was causing
people to become unwell.
Last Thursday, as part of their Chinese
studies, Mrs Wu organised for Year 6 to
participate in a Kung Fu workshop in
the senior school. Mr Kleber F.L. de
Souza is a national and international
champion of various martial arts
including Wushu, Chinese boxing and
Kung Fu. Although he himself is
Brazilian, he speaks fluent Mandarin
and embeds Chinese language in his
teaching.
Year 6
The girls were given a
demonstration of a variety
of traditional moves used
in “Kung Fu shan” as well
as being introduced to
several types of weapons
of Kung fu. They were then
invited to participate in the
moves themselves and
learned a number of set
pieces. Mr De Souza and
his assistants were very
impressed with the girls’
enthusiasm and their
ability to remember the
moves. The session
finished with a set piece
involving traditional
Chinese fans which was a
delight to watch.
