My Brothers and Sisters in Christ: One of the great themes of Jesus’ ministry and in fact the whole bible is that of “Hospitality and Welcome.” Jesus taught a radical welcome to emphasize God’s love and St. Luke reminds us that this was not always popular, “And the Pharisees and the scribes were grumbling and saying, This fellow welcomes sinners and eats with them.” Jesus was always concerned for others and that their needs be met. Welcome and hospitality were central to his ministry and his message, he recognized that all people were created in the image of God and should be so treated. St. Matthew reminds us that Jesus when speaking of those that would inherit his Kingdom, remember this, “for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” The Letter to the Hebrews cautions us to “not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” Showing hospitality and welcome were important to Jesus and they should be important to us. St. Luke’s is a very hospitable parish, but the question for us is how can we make it a central and consistent focus? How can we learn to be a “totally welcoming” parish, not allowing any visitor leave without feeling God’s love and knowing that we too love and care for them. On Sunday, October 22nd, at 6:00 pm, we will have a parish dinner to discuss and share ways we can sharpen our welcoming focus and more completely share God’s love. Joe Chamberlain and the men of St. Luke’s will be preparing dinner for us, so come share and learn with us how to entertain angels and welcome sinners! In Christ, Fr. George

NEW YOUTH MINISTER Please take the opportunity to wel-come Katie Quincey to our St. Luke’s family. Katie joined St. Luke’s in September and will be helping to create an environment in which our youth can grow clos-er to Christ and to one anoth-er. Katie is a teacher in the Su-wannee School District and active in FFA and other student activi-ties. Please give her your support and a hardy welcome.

Adult volunteers are needed to help our older youth make the Fall Festival a success. As in past

years, our older youth will be cre-ating a fun event for our younger children to enjoy. Adult assistance is needed! This would include helping set up and supervise the Fall Festival games and activities, helping to make and create props, food, and fun! If you are interest-ed please let our Youth Minister, Katie Quincey, know of your in-terest and availability. Her email is [email protected]. Please help us make the Fall Festival for the whole community a success!

In memory of Francis and to the Glory of God’s creation we will celebrate the Blessing of the Ani-mals, at 2pm, Sunday, Oct. 8, in the courtyard. Please bring your pets of all kinds and let us give thanks to God who places them in our care.

SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER NEEDED Sunday School began at 9:45am on September 10th. We still need some supporting teachers or aides. Our classes are Primary K-3, and Secondary 5-8. Please consider helping to support our children. Please pray about it and see Fr. George or Kay Harvard. ST. LUKE’S PHOTO DIRECTORY SAVE THESE DATES! On Saturday, November 4th and Sunday November 5th, Life Touch Studios will be at St. Luke’s to photograph our parishion-ers. Photos seatings will be availa-ble for each family on those days between Noon and 7:00 pm. The folks at Life Touch will compile and publish for us a color photo directory. They will also make photographs available for optional purchase at reasonable prices just in time for Christmas. I also need a volunteer who would be willing to coordinate the scheduling and to serve as a liaison with the folks at Life Touch. As we get closer, a sign-up sheet will be available to reserve your day and time. Please contact Father George for more information.

NEW BEGINNINGS AT CAMP WEED New Beginnings is designed espe-cially to respond to the unique challenges and concerns of youth in grades 6-8. It was created by adults and young people to help participants grow in their love of themselves, others and our Lord Jesus Christ. During the weekend, participants meet peers from across the diocese, enjoy skits, lis-ten to talks, and participate in small group activities and discus-sions. Cameron Simpson has been selected to be the youth leader in charge of this weekend. The cost for the Nov. 10-12 weekend event is $120 and St. Luke’s will pay $60 of that cost for attending youth. This is a GREAT oppor-tunity - Don’t miss it! Ask Camer-on Simpson or Father George for more information!

Coffee Hour following the 11am service has been a tradition at St. Luke’s for many years. It is a great way to get a chance to visit with each other and to meet and greet those visiting and potential members. The menu can be very simple such as coffee, lemonade, and cookies. It is not meant to be a meal or heavy finger foods, just a light treat. We hope you will think about hosting an upcoming Sun-day. You can call Ellen to sign up or check the bulletin board sched-ule in the Parish hall.

DAUGHTERS OF THE KING The Daughters of the King will be meeting for dinner on Tuesday, October 3rd at 6:00. All women are welcome to join us for a chili supper

and a time of prayer and fellowship. No need to bring any-thing but yourself! If you have questions, please call Maureen Menosky, at 386-776-1817. BUSY HANDS MEETING Busy Hands will meet on Saturday, Oct. 14th, 9:30-11am. MEN’S GROUP The Men’s Group will meet on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 6pm. Bring your meat for the grill. SOCIAL MOVEMENT A fitness class for beginners and seniors is meeting on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10am-10:45am in the parish hall. Denise Watson is leading the class. DEACON’S CORNER September was an incredible month for all of us. Before Irma hit us, it hit Cuba and Matanzas was in the direct line of the eye. They suffered all of the worst effects of a hurricane. Right now they do have electricity again and the cleanup is non-stop. At Fielés á Jesus we were especially concerned about the huge glass windows they recently put in, but we prayed and I believe an angel put his hand over the windows and none were bro-ken. That has to be a miracle! We collected over $500 to send to help them, so we sent $100 to the Bishop to help all of Cuba, and $400 to Fielés á Jesus to help them and their neighbors with reconstruction and food. Things are more or less back to normal, except for the food prices. It has sky rocketed! Thank you for all you did to help!! Our ESOL Classes are going along very well. We usu-ally have between 25 and 30 students. Our hostesses have to prepare snacks for nearly 50 people every Monday and Thursday. That includes all the teachers, nursery workers and children as well as the students. It is quite a production twice a week!! Thanks to all you teachers and hostesses and host who make this all work smoothly.

If you would be willing to receive an electronic copy of the Gazette through your e-mail please complete the following form and drop this into the offering plate or give it to Ellen. Please help us to be better stewards of our resources. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------————-
