ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM YOUR DEACON, THE REVEREND PHYLLIS DOTY
English classes: We came to a roaring
finish with a party to celebrate the end of
classes, May birthdays and Mother’s Day.
For the first time our celebration included those
who are studying for the Citizenship exam, a class
taught by Bob and Lydia Bush and Andy Miller. The
regular classes numbered between 25 and 30 stu-
dents most of the time with 4 levels: Beginning Eng-
lish (taught by Maureen Menosky), Advanced begin-
ners (taught by Arecley Diego), Level 2 (taught by
Phyllis Doty) and Level 3 (taught by Marie Brian).
We plan to start classes again in September. Thanks
to all of you who contributed to the scholarship
fund. We had all the money we needed and we
have some left over to use for the same purpose
next semester! You are all soooo generous!
Thanks sooooo much!
Cuba and Fielés A Jesus: Mother Tulia writes
that she will not be able to get the telephone we had
hoped for, but she is now trying to get internet ac-
cess on her mother-in-law’s telephone. This has
also had some delays, but she is still hopeful. Her
mother-in-law lives across the street from her, so
that would be very convenient. I call her on the 3rd
Sunday of each month to let her know that we are
sending her the money by Western Union that we
collect that day. We can also e-mail each other on
her brother-in-law’s e-mail, but that is not so con-
venient, but it is better than nothing. She and all of
Fielés A Jesus are looking forward to our visit with
them in July and to the men who will visit in the Fall.
The things we still need to take over to them are thread –big spools of all colors, towels of all sizes,
and vitamins. If you would like to donate anything,
please leave it on my desk. Thank you so much.
Mother Tulia sends her blessing and best wishes to
all of us. Phyllis

Greetings, St. Luke’s from the Pfender Family!
Please allow us to introduce you to a remark-
able young man!
On Sunday, June 2nd at 4:00, Joshua Bartolotti, a
2009 graduate of Suwannee High (cohort of Gini
Pfender and Shelby Brothers) will be performing at
St. Luke’s. Please read below and join us on the 2nd
at 4:00 P.M. You will be blessed!
Joshua graduated from Suwannee High in 2009 with
Gini Pfender. On May 4th, he graduated from
Reinhardt University with Emily Pfender! The “just
the facts” information is: Joshua began his college
career at Stetson University; he then transferred
with full scholarship to Shorter University, and his junior year he transferred to Reinhardt University,
also on full scholarship. Josh is well thought of
among his professors and voice coaches. He has
traveled abroad for summer voice programs and he
is on staff with the Atlanta Opera. His resume, for
one so young, is quite impressive!
On a personal level, I’d like to explain who this
young man is and why I believe God is using him to
help young people!
While Emily was a senior at Suwannee High, Robin
happened to be part of a telephone conversation
with Cheryl Brinson and Joshua (we believe God
placed Robin in the right place and time). Joshua
was telephoning Cheryl Mae about an opportunity
he had to travel to the Czech Republic to study
music during the summer. Emily had been showing
interest in the arts as a profession so Robin men-
tioned her to him. Joshua took it upon himself to
visit Suwannee High and listen to Emily sing! He
was impressed by her control and talent, especially
for an untrained 17 year old student, so he pro-
vided Emily with an introduction to Dr. McIntyre,
Dean of Music for Reinhardt University. Dr. McIn-
tyre contacted Emily about sending him a recording
of her voice and the rest, as they say, is history!
Joshua’s mentorship, however, had only just begun!
Once at university Josh stepped up his
"mentorship" in full. Joshua, just like Gini and most
of her friends, is a serious young person. He has a
wonderfully warm personality, but he keeps his cir-
cle small. Joshua welcomed Emily into his circle
and has been a true God send to her! He has
taught Emily how to be a professional student:
dress, hair, make-up, and bearing. He has been a
big brother when "girl drama" would ensue at her
dorm, providing her a futon bed and keys to his apartment so she would always have a “safe place”
at college! Imagine how comforting it is for us to
know that Emily, even though she is six hours from
home, has a safe place to go when needed.
Joshua takes Emily with him to work at the Atlanta
Opera. Emily has had the opportunity to meet and
mingle, listen, and learn, from professional per-
formers…because of Joshua! We are confident
that God put Emily at Reinhardt and that God put
Joshua at Reinhardt!
Joshua has been accepted into the Master’s Pro-
gram at Florida State University, School of Music.
Joshua does not plan, however, to “take the sum-
mer off”. He has an opportunity to sing the role of
Gianni Schicchi in Gianni Schicchi and Raul in Hotel
Casablanca in Texas this summer, however, he
needs help getting there. Please attend St. Luke’s
presenting of Joshua on Sunday, June 2nd at 4:00 and
help support this amazing young man! A love offer-
ing will be received.

In the Words of Mother Theresa...In the Words of Mother Theresa...In the Words of Mother Theresa...
“People are often unreasonable and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.
If you are honest, people may cheat you.
Be honest anyway.
If you find happiness, people may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough.
Give your best anyway.
For you see, in the end, it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway.”
