(Mateo 10:37-42).

CHRISTIAN HOSPITALITY

Day in and day out, we are required to make judgment calls informed by tough, durable, serviceable Chris an love. We do what we can do, and God takes no ce. God is in charge of rewards, and a glass of water will do when that is what we have to offer with a glad and open heart. Paul gives us a clear theology for the missionary work we do whenever anybody is close at hand. He reminds us that our work, our ministry, is carried on in concert with Christ. We have been bap zed into his death and life. In any given moment both life and death are there, a kind of play of shadow and light. Some mes it’s difficult to tell where shadow leaves off and light begins. God will take care of that, too. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

St John the Evangelist Worship Aid June 28, 2020

(Please help us in our efforts to sani ze the church a er each Mass by taking home the Bulle n /Worship Aid. Thank You!)

Second Reading (Acts 13:22-26) In those days, Paul said: “God raised up David as king; of him God tes fied, I have found David, son of Jesse, a man a er my own heart; he will carry out my every wish. From this man’s descendants God, according to his promise, has brought to Israel a savior, Jesus. John heralded his coming by proclaiming a bap sm of repentance to all the people of Israel; and as John was comple ng his course, he would say, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. Behold, one is coming a er me; I am not worthy to unfasten the sandals of his feet.’ “My brothers, sons of the family of Abraham, and those others among you who are God-fearing, to us this word of salva on has been sent.”

Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 89:2-3, 16-17, 18-19)

R. For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.

The promises of the LORD I will sing forever, through all genera ons my mouth shall proclaim your faithfulness. For you have said, “My kindness is established forever;” in heaven you have confirmed your faithfulness. Blessed the people who know the joyful shout; in the light of your countenance, O LORD, they walk. At your name they rejoice all the day, and through your jus ce they are exalted.

Gospel (Ma hew 10:37-42) Jesus said to his apostles: “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever does not take up his cross and follow a er me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. "Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward. And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these li le ones to drink because the li le one is a disciple— amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.” The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Homily

Profession of Faith The Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Bego en Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, bego en, not made, consubstan al with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salva on he came down from heaven, All Bow [and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.] For our sake he was crucified under Pon us Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Bap sm for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrec on of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
