Pastoral Message
Two celebrations in one day. Some people have asked me these days ‘if I come to Mass in the morning on Sunday, December 24th, is it necessary to come to the 5:00 p.m. (English) or 7:00 p.m. (Spanish) mass? Well, my first answer is that you can never pray too much, on the contrary, the more we pray, the more we participate in the Eucharist, our spiritual life gets healthier. Since this year Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday, the reading and the liturgy of Saturday the 23rd in the af-ternoon and Sunday the 24th in the morning correspond to the fourth Sunday of Advent. The mass at 5:00 p.m. (English) and 7:00 p.m. (Spanish) on December 24th co-rrespond to the celebration of Christmas Eve. That is, they are “two days in one.” Therefore, they are two different celebrations. Before the 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. masses on December 24th we will have Christmas Carols. Monday, December 25th is a Holy Day of Obligation and we celebrate Christ-mas. With this little clarification, I want to wish each of you and your families a MERRY CHRISTMAS! May the joy and the spirit of Christmas endure in your hearts, that the fee-lings of friendship and familiarity that we feel during these holy days remain forever. The Child Jesus is called the ‘Prince of Peace.’ May the presence of Christ bring joy, healing and reconciliation to our hearts; that the families reconcile and come closer to-gether; that the love of parents and children be strengthe-ned; that the desire to serve and help others does not dimi-nish and that our commitment to the Church be reactiva-ted. Dos celebraciones en un mismo día. Algunas personas me han preguntado durante estos días, ‘si vengo a misa en la mañana el domingo 24, ¿ya no es necesario venir en la tarde a la misa de 5 p.m. (inglés) o 7:00 p.m. (español)? Bueno, mi primera respuesta es que orar nunca es demasiado, al contrario, entre más oración hagamos,
entre más participemos en la Eucaristía es más saludable para nuestra vida espiritual. Como la víspera de Navidad este año cae en domingo, las lecturas y la liturgia del sábado 23 en la tarde y domingo 24 en la mañana corresponden al cuarto domingo de Ad-viento. La misa de cinco de la tarde (inglés) y siete de la noche (español) del domingo 24 corresponden a la cele-bración de la Víspera de Navidad. Es decir, son “dos días en uno.” Por tanto, son dos celebraciones diferentes. Antes de las misas de cinco y siete el 24 de diciembre ten-dremos concierto de villancicos. El lunes 25 diciembre es día de “obligación” y se celebra la Navidad. Con esta pequeña aclaración, quiero desear a cada uno de ustedes y a sus familias una ¡FELIZ NAVIDAD! Que la alegría y el espíritu de la navidad perdure en sus corazo-nes; que los sentimientos de familiaridad y amistad que se despiertan en estos días santos, permanezcan para siem-pre. El Niños Jesús, es llamado ‘Príncipe de Paz.’ Que la presencia de Cristo traiga alegría, sanación y reconcilia-ción a nuestros corazones; que las familias se reconcilien y se acerquen; que el amor de padres e hijos se fortalezca; que el deseo de servir y ayudar a los demás no se apague, y que nuestro compromiso con la Iglesia se reactive.
