Give me wisdom, so I can learn from my mistakes.Give me courage, so I may stand up for that is right.Give me knowledge, so I may learn about my faith, my world and myself.Give me right judgment, so I can make good decisions.Give me reverence, so I may show how I love you.Give me wonder and awe in God’s presence, so I may discover and respect all that God has created. O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. I offer them for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart: the salvation of souls, reparation for sin, and the reunion of all Christians. I offer them for the intentions of our bishops and of all Apostles of Prayer, and in particular for those recommended by our Holy Father this month.

From the Pastor’s
Desk…
Dear Parishioners,
The family life has undergone
tremendous changes in the past years,
especially in recent years. It is being
attacked by money, power, selfishness,
individualism and materialism. There is
loneliness and poverty in families.
There is a hesitancy to welcome new life
and inconsideration to older persons in
families.
In this challenging situation it is easy to
lose heart and give up on families. But,
instead, let us ask ourselves, how can we,
as pastors, parents and teachers,
strengthen our families and make a
difference in our society?
Every three years, the World Meeting of World Meeting of World Meeting of World Meeting of
Families Families Families Families brings together families from
across the world to celebrate the value
and importance of marriage and family,
We are so happy you
came to celebrate with us.
If you are new to the
Parish and haven’t
registered, we encourage
you to join our family.

in society and in the Church, as well as
to pray and reflect together.
This year, Pope Francis chose Dublin,
Ireland, to host this important gathering
which will be held from August 21 – 28,
2018. The theme of this international
event will be “The Gospel of the Family:
Joy for the World.” Pope Francis
confirmed that he will be travelling to
Ireland to take part in it. As a Parish
Family, let us keep all participants in our
daily prayers.
Should a family in our parish be
interested in travelling to Dublin to
participate in this event, the Diocese is
willing to pay $1,000.00 $1,000.00 $1,000.00 $1,000.00 per family to
help cover the trip expenses. You need
only communicate with Robert Lariviere
at the Diocesan Centre (705 674 2727,
ext 229).
May the powerful intercession of the
Blessed Virgin Mary be with this event
and upon all families!
“Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me (Ps. 30:2)”
Please pray for the sick and ailing members
of our parish community, and all those on our
parish prayer list, especially: Richard
Migwans, Peggy Plastino, Gaston, Barbara,
Laurienne, and Serge Arsenault, Jennifer
Davey, Debbie Bourn, Kim Doherty-
Cunneyworth, Diane Newman, Toni Adams,
Don Tagliabracci , Nicholas Hoffe & Ann
Lubertino.
Lord of mercy and compassion, whom we turn to in moments of weakness and in times of need, look with compassion on your servants and grant them healing of body, mind and soul. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Do not let yourselves be guided by the spirit of self-
indulgence. Look at the legacy that self-indulgence
produces: bad temper, fighting, jealousy, cruelty,
meanness, revenge, drunkenness and more... These are
ugly things and make life miserable. Rather, let yourself
be guided by the Spirit of God. Look at the legacy the
Spirit brings: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control and
more... These are beautiful things, and make life joyful.
They are a foretaste of the joy of heaven. Spirit of the
living God, fall afresh on us.

CLINTON SPEAKS AT SMC
The Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) of the HSCDSB hosted a presentation, focusing on the emotional development of children on Monday, April 30. Dr. Jean Clinton, a clinical professor at McMaster University in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, was the guest speaker at a workshop for parents and caregivers of students from kindergarten to Grade 12.
“This was a very important presentation considering the many challenges our students face. Dr. Clinton’s expertise in the health, wellness and well-being of children is second to none and her presentation was very informative,” said PIC Secondary Representative, Ron Zagordo. The presentation touched on a variety of strategies parents and caregivers can utilize to support a child’s emotional development, decrease their stress and improve their self-esteem. Dr. Clinton also spoke of how studies show that modern technology, specifically social media, is causing more anxiety and stress in our youth. She noted that a good parental practice would be to limit or restrict cell phone access to students under secondary school age. She also reiterated that parents need to play an active role in their child’s life to ensure they are making healthy choices.
“I think it’s important that students are aware that there are other choices out there, healthy choices that they can make to deal with stress, mental health issues or peer pressure. It’s also important that parents stay involved with their children and interact with them, knowing what they’re doing and who their friends are. Other than if there is a danger to the student or others, we provide confidential services for students if they’re hesitant to speak to their parents or other adults,” said AFS Alternatives for Youth Coordinator, Teresa Coccimiglio.
