Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. “

before You fervently kissing Your spotless feet, praying

silently that, as Master, You will remit my debts as I cry:

"Savior, free me from the foulness of my deeds!"

Two women - say the more discerning interpreters of the

Gospel - anointed the Lord with myrrh; the one, a long

time before His Passion; the other, a few days before. One

was a harlot and sinner; the other, chaste and virtuous.

The Church commemorates this reverent act today.

While mentioning herein the person of the harlot, it also

mentions Judas' betrayal; for, according to the account in

Matthew, both of these deeds took place two days before

the Passover, on Wednesday. That woman, then, anointed

Jesus' head and feet with very precious myrrh, and wiped

    HOLY WEDNESDAY - MARCH 31ST

    the betrayal took place on

When one is ill and in pain, this can very often be a time of life when one feels alone and

isolated. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, or Holy Unction as it is also known,

reminds us that when we are in pain, either physical, emotional, or spiritual, Christ is

present with us through the ministry of His Church. He is among us to offer strength to meet

strength, and forgiveness. After the reading of seven Epistle lessons, seven Gospel lessons

and the offering of seven prayers, which are all devoted to healing, the priest anoints the

body with the Holy Oil. Orthodoxy does not view this Sacrament as available only to those

who are near death. It is offered to all who are sick in body, mind, or spirit.

Christ came to the world to "bear our infirmities." One of the signs of His divine

Messiahship was to heal the sick. The power of healing remains in the Church since Christ

The St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival is coming!

This Archdiocese sponsored event gives young people in Junior and Senior High School the opportunity to

learn and speak about their Orthodox Faith. This year's speech topics are listed at the Greek Orthodox

Department of Religious Education website: www.religioused.goarch.org

Please call Presvytera Lisa (947-4709) if you have any interest in learning more about this worthy and fun

event. (Plus, participation also looks GREAT on college applications!)

  • A Notice to Parents

We all want our St. George children to be safe. Please keep aware of where your children are, especially after

Liturgy during Coffee Hour. Children should be supervised and should not be in the church sanctuary, church

office, or in the upstairs meeting room by themselves.

Thanks for being vigilant in this regard!

    Coffee Hour Needs

When grocery shopping, just pick up one non-perishable item that could be used at a church coffee hour and

leave it on the counter in the church kitchen the next time you are there. Items that could be used include:

bread and boxed pastries (that can be put in the kitchen freezer), canned tuna, crackers, chips, canned fruit,

salad dressing, cookies, juice, and large zip-lock bags. Your offering will be much appreciated!

Coffee Hour Notice It has been brought to our attention that some parishioners have allergies to peanuts. It would be appreciated

if dishes with peanuts could be labeled, so that those with allergies will know to avoid them.

    Thanks very much!

New St. George Bottle Redemption Site

St. George Church has a new redemption “account” at the Bottle Redemption on Broadway in Bangor across

The Fourth Sunday of Lent: Feast of our Righteous Father

John (Climacus) of Sinai, Author of The Ladder of Divine Ascent

On March 14th and on the Fourth Sunday of Holy Lent the Orthodox Church commemorates our Righteous

Father John Climacus. He is called Climacus due to his authorship of the great spiritual work The Ladder of

Divine Ascent. His commemoration is designated by the Church on one of the Sundays of Lent as his life and

writings affirm him as a supreme bearer and proponent of Christian asceticism. The ascetic example of this

great Saint of the Church inspires us in our Lenten journey.

Holy Week Meditation and Study Guide Fr. Andrew Demotses

The services of Holy Week transform us into eyewitnesses and direct participants in the awesome events of

the Passion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. In readings taken from both Old and New Testaments, in hymns,

processions, and liturgical commemoration, we see the fulfillment of the Messianic prophecies, and the

mighty acts by which God Himself, in the person of Jesus Christ, grants us forgiveness for our sins, and

rescues us from the pain of eternal death.

PALM SUNDAY EVENING - Matthew 21:18-43
