Youth ministry is looking for volunteers to help with the high school program. We have a class that is in need of a catechist. This position already has a volunteer who will share teaching this class so you won’t have to go it

Help Needed to Serve our Sick & Homebound We are in need of volunteers to assist in the following Minis-tries:

Hospital Visitors - We need at least 2 more people to visit our hospitalized parishioners. It would be a commitment of an hour or so one day a week.

Nursing Home & Homebound Visitors - people to visit home-bound, assisted living & nursing home parishioners on a flexi-ble schedule, 1 to 2 times monthly, to visit & bring news from our parish.

First Friday Ministers - 4-6 people to bring communion to our homebound, assisted living & nursing home parishioners on the first Friday of the month. You would each have 2-4 parish-ioners in a small geographic area & it should take no more than 1 hour. Training as a Eucharistic Minister to the sick will be needed.

Training will be provided for all ministries & Virtus training will be necessary. Training to bring communion to the sick is only required for First Friday ministers, but is encouraged for all ministers. We would like you to be ready to visit in January so training will be done in December or early January. Please prayerfully consider whether God is calling you to be part of one or more of the ministries. Reflection Corner Holiday magazines are well known for providing

quick, practical ideas for trimming the house, welcoming

guests, and preparing enticing food. The suggestions that are

offered are designed to help the host and hostess show off a

stunning atmosphere without spending days and weeks prepar-

ing for a party or dinner that may only last an hour or two. Often

everyday items are transformed with a swatch of fabric, a can-

dle, or some evergreens. Ingenious cutting makes plain vegeta-

bles or ordinary hors d'oeuvres into holiday delights. The opera-

tive concepts in getting people to buy these idea books and

read them are: quick, easy, and practical.

In the Gospel today, John the Baptist offers quick, easy, and

practical ideas for those who would prepare for the coming of

the Christ. As St. Luke tells us, people in his day were filled with

expectation. John was pretty straightforward in what he thought

they should do: If you have two coats, give one away to some-

body who doesn't have one; be equitable in your dealings with

others; don't push people around; don't lie about people. In

modern parlance, we might say that John the Baptist was ask-

ing people to act justly in the world.

Unfortunately, today we don't often think of justice as quick,

easy, or practical. Our understanding of justice is more often

colored by the contemporary legal system than by the divine

laws of the covenant that binds God and his people. There was

a reciprocity and equanimity in the covenantal relationship.

There were duties to be fulfilled on each side. John was asking

that those who were filled with expectation for the coming of

the Messiah would set themselves aright with one another so

that God's covenant would find full expression in the relation-

ships that bind people to God and to one another. Justice is

really about leveling things out. And when you think about it,

that is pretty easy. If you have more, then you share

Catholic Youth Evangelizer We are seeking passionate young adult Catholics, 21-29 years of age, who want to ignite the faith of thousands of young Catholics! SPIRITUS evangelization teams serve for 9 months, live in community and travel to schools and parishes throughout Wisconsin giving retreats and programs to inspire Catholic youth in grades 3-12 and lead young adult groups.

Team members receive training, weekly formation, spiritual direction, lodging, food, a monthly allowance, health insur-ance and a $2,000 stipend upon completion of the 9-month program. For current students, SPIRITUS can qualify as an internship, giving you the added benefit of earning college credit for your service.

SPIRITUS team members learn valuable skills, deepen their faith, develop leadership skills, and discern God’s calling, and build lasting friendships by living in community. This is an awesome opportunity to serve our Lord and help young Cath-olics grow in faith!

Calling All Cookie Baker’s We all know that Fr. Andrew has been selected to become the Administrator of the parishes in Champion, New Franken and Sugar Bush. His last weekend here at St. Bernadette will be Saturday, December 29th and Sunday, December 30th. To send him off with all our prayers and well wishes we would like to have a CHRISTMAS COOKIE RECEPTION after all the masses that weekend. Cell Phones For Soldiers Starting Nov. 19, 2012 to Jan. 4, 2013 every Fox Communi-ties Credit Union location is a drop off site for used cell phones. With this program, the phones are exchanged for minutes on a pre-paid calling card. The cards are then given to soldiers overseas. Phones can be dropped off in the “Giving Box” in the back of the Narthex.
