Message from the desk of the Pastor
My dear people of God,
In our readings from sacred scripture, we are challenged to an ever deeper follow of the Lord. Jesus challenges the rich young man and all of us to follow him more completely.
The young rich man in the Gospel, was being called to be an apostle. But, his great wealth prevented him from following Jesus. Our Lord is not condemning material wealth. He is calling us to put it in the right perspective. We must be detached from material wealth. One of the beatitudes is “Blessed are the poor in spirit for they shall see God.” Being poor in spirit is being detached from material possessions. It is not allowing the material things of our life to dominate our goals and our values.
Our Lord is constantly calling out to each of us to follow him more perfectly. Only as a people of prayer can we discern God’s call and re-spond to him. He wants our hearts, not our pocket books. That is more than most of us realize. Let us each take a part of every day and seek the face of Jesus. If we pray constantly we are more capable of being aware of his presence. We find him most dynamically in the Eucharist. Come and visit him in this house of God. We can find Jesus in our daily prayer life wherever we might be. We find him in others, especially those with whom we have the most contact. May God bless each of you. Let us always be a people of God constantly searching for Jesus.
Sincerely yours in Christ
Fr. Joseph
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
There are times in my life where I feel like I don't deserve God's love. Some people might feel like this too. That’s why I want to write about this. You may feel like you're worthless or maybe you feel like you are invisible to people. Whatever it is God knows what you are going through and things will get better. Sometimes I ask my-
self "Why does God love me?" Yes, I am a sinner like everyone else in this world and I am too far from being perfect. Even though we are sinners God wants us to all come to him and he will take away all of your struggles that you have. I pray for all of the people who feel this way and I hope they real-ize how much God loves them. You are worth it enough in God's eyes and his love for you is indescribable. ~~Kylie

THYROID PROBLEMS [Ministry of Aging — Archdiocese] The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland in the front of your neck. The thyroid acts as the thermostat of the body. It produces hor-mones that control the way your body uses energy. If the thyroid gland is not functioning properly, it may produce too much or too little thyroid hormone. Having either too much or too little thyroid hormone can make you not feel well. If a patient's thyroid is not producing enough thyroid hormone, then the patient is diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Having a low level of thyroid hormone af-fects your whole body. The symptoms of hypothyroidism include fatigue, weight gain, constipation, and hair loss. If left untreated, hypothyroidism can cause an increase in your cholesterol and in-crease your risk of heart disease and stroke. People of any age can get hypothyroidism, and both men and women will experience the same symptoms. However, older adults are more likely than young-er adults to get this disease. Women over the age 60 are at the high-est risk of getting hypothyroidism. Also, those patients with a fami-ly history of hypothyroidism are at higher risk of developing it themselves. Fortunately, hypothyroidism is easily detected with a blood test and is successfully treated with medication. If the thyroid gland produces an excess of thyroid hormone, the condition is referred to as hyperthyroidism. Symptoms of hyperthy-roidism include unintentional weight loss, fast heartbeat, sweating, tremors, and feeling nervous. Again this condition is easily diagnosed with a blood test and is easily treated. Radioactive iodine and antithyroid medicine are the treatments doctors use most often. The best treatment for each pa-tient will depend on a number of things, including age and other medical problems. Most patients respond very well to treatment. It is important to diagnose this condition early, because if hyperthy-roidism is left undiagnosed and untreated, it can lead to serious heart problems, bone problems, and a life threatening condition called "thyroid storm." Patients with hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism don't usually need to have their thyroid gland removed. Those patients that need to have a thyroidectomy, usually have a concerning growth, or nodule, in their thyroid gland that requires surgery. Lab tests, ultrasounds, and thyroid scans are used to determine which patients will need this surgery. After a thyroidectomy, a patient will need to take thy-roid medication for the rest of their lives.

Pray to
end abortion.
Pro Life Corner: “The fundamental human right, the presupposition of every other right, is the right to life itself. This is true of life from the moment of concep-tion until its natural end. Abortion, consequently, can-not be a human right — it is the very opposite. It is a deep wound in society.” Pope Benedict XVI
Prayer for Life: Father and maker of all, you adorn all creation with splen-dor and beauty, and fashion human lives in your image and likeness. Awaken in every heart reverence for the work of your hands, and renew among your people a readiness to nur-ture and sustain your precious gift of life. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The purchase of the “Old EJ Restaurant “ has been completed. The property now be-longs to us. Until, or unless, we find a better name for the building I am now naming it ST ANTHONY ANNEX.
May everyone who has pledged to the Building Fund please commence their prom-ised response. May those who have not yet committed to giving to the fund consider making a donation, or pledge. Pledges can be fulfilled by scheduling payments at any frequency for up to 5 years. Envelopes are available at the entrance of the church to aid in making your donation/pledge.
The first order of business will be to clean up the exterior of the building and the property. We must also install a sign(s) identifying the property as belonging to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. The area around the building will be mowed, cleaned and the one tree will be removed. The pavement will be cleaned of weeds and debris and parking bumpers will be installed where appropriate.
There will be some repairs required to the building gutter system and a few holes patched in the outer skin. Then we will work on the inside by cleaning and making it minimally functional for storage. Flooring and ceiling tile will be evaluated and elimi-nated, or replaced, as necessary and/or appropriate.
The HVAC systems will be evaluated and made useable to provide for a minimal comfort environment.
Feel free to ask me any questions about our plans going forward. Actually, there are no firm plans so you have the opportunity to make suggestions. I am praying that this can provide an opportunity for us to become a more “servant of those in need” parish by providing basic necessities to those in our parish who lack what most of us have. One option is to establish a St. Vincent de Paul center where we can provide furniture, bedding, etc. to people who have little more than a roof over their head. Of course this requires more than a building. It will require volunteers who are ready and able to coordinate and work the center for a few hours each month.
We want to especially thank Joyce Peltier – Bob Peltier and Associates and Gwen Fief – Alamo Title for their help in making the transaction and for the generous waiv-ing of fees for their work.
God Bless. Deacon Gerald
Hunters Safety: Two avid hunters take a hunter's safety class in which they learn that the universal signal for an emergency is three shots in the air. Sure enough, on their next hunting trip the two men get lost. One says to the other, "What shall we do?" The other says, I know fire three shots in the air and someone may come to find us. He fires off three shots, and they wait two hours. No sign of help. What shall we do? Fire off three more shots. So he does. Three hours later there is no response and it is getting dark. The one says "Shall we try again?" The other says, "I guess not... I only have two arrows left...

Please Pray for Priests
Dear Lord, we pray that the Blessed Mother wrap her mantle around your priests and through her intercession strengthen them for their ministry. We pray that Mary will guide your priests to follow her own words, “Do whatever He tells you” (Jn 2:5) May your priest have the heart of St. Joseph, Mary’s most chaste spouse. May the Blessed Mother’s own pierced heart inspire them to embrace all who suffer at the foot of the cross. May your priest be holy, filled with the fire of your love seek-ing nothing but your greater glory and the salvation of souls. Amen.
St. John Vianney, pray for us.
