Prayers for the ChurchAnglican Church in North America: Bishop Jack Iker and his wife Donna; Bishop William Wantland; and the clergy and people of the Anglican Diocese of Fort Worth, Texas.

The Diocese of Forth Worth came into being in 1983 after the General Convention of The Episcopal Church approved its creation from the western half of the large Episcopal Diocese of Dallas. The current bishop is the third bishop of that diocese.

The controversial separation between it and the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth arose out of events in 2008, when the 26th annual convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth voted to remove the diocese from The Episcopal Church and join the Anglican Church of the Southern Cone (of South America). At the time of the vote in 2008 to separate from The Episcopal Church, the diocese had geographically fixed boundaries covering 24 counties in Texas and claimed 19,000 members. The decision of convention was challenged by a minority of members from a few parishes (the vote to leave TEC was 72 to 19 clergy and 102 to 25 laity), who then reorganized and remained within The Episcopal Church.

In 2009, the diocese was a founding jurisdiction of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA), the first convention of which was held at St. Vincent’s Cathedral, the cathedral of the Diocese of Fort Worth. Joining ACNA therefore created a dual affiliation for the diocese, which remains affiliated with the Anglican Church of the Southern Cone (of South America). Afterward, in accordance with the non-geographical concept of dioceses in the ACNA, it began to accept congregations outside its previous territory. In November 2012, the diocese reported 62 congregations, of which 60 are in Texas, one in Louisiana and one in Arkansas.

Sadly, ownership of the property of the undivided diocese is still being disputed, with the case now before the Texas Supreme Court.

Please pray especially for a Christ-centered resolution of the legal disputes, for the deliberations of the Women’s Congress on Sept. 7, and for the consecration of the bishop coadjutor on Sept. 21. (Sources: Diocesan website and Wikipedia.)

Anglican Diocese of the Great Lakes: Lay Pastor Timothy Strauss, and the people of St. Andrew’s Celtic Fellowship, Petoskey, Michigan.

Parish Cycle of Prayer: Bob and JJ Muehlhausen; Mark, Elizabeth, Miriam, Lily and Kitty Rife; Alex Rodriguez; the Hokey Pokey Small Group; and Joel Penton and the Stand for Faith Ministry. — • —Encouragement for prayer time with GodThe preparation of spiritual soil for growth takes place in our daily time set aside to be with God. “For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.” (Isaiah 61:11) — From the St. Andrew’s Prayer Ministries Team

Men & Boys Brats Bash August 29The Brotherhood of St. Andrew invites all men and boys in the parish to the annual Dave Cook Memorial Brats Dinner on Thursday, August 29, on the church grounds. Food will be served from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., but please feel free to stay after dinner for conversation and fellowship.

All food—brats, hot dogs, and all the trimmings—will be provided by the Brotherhood. As usual, the event will go on rain or shine, and this year we’ll have the added feature of a large tent.

There is no cost for the dinner; there are, however, sign-up sheets at the Information Desk in the Narthex. We ask that you do sign up with the number in your party so we can furnish the right amount of food.

Please feel free to bring any friends or neighbors who are not members of the parish; we’d love to meet them!

If you have any questions or need more information you may contact Ed Summers at 614-371-1649, or see any member of the Brotherhood.

Women’s Bible Study resumes Sept. 3The Tuesday morning Women’s Bible Study small group will resume their regular meetings on Sept. 18.

The group, which is facilitated by Tally Whitehead, director of discipleship and ministries, meets on the first and third Tuesdays, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., at the Parish House.

All women of the parish and their friends are welcome to attend. This is a perfect time to join in because the group will be selecting and starting a new study!

For more information, contact Tally at 740-548-5112, ext. 5 or [email protected].

Rally Sunday, Sept. 8 to kick off fall programs Rally Day on Sunday, Sept. 8, will kick off our fall discipleship programs for children, youth, and adults. We’ll gather from 10 to 11:15 a.m.—outside, weather permitting—for breakfast-style food, fun, and fellowship. If you normally attend the 5 p.m. Saturday service, consider coming back on Sunday morning to join in the festivities, and if you attend the 11:15 a.m. Sunday service, plan to arrive early that day so you won’t miss a thing!

Rally Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to connect with others in your church family. Parents will meet their children’s Godly Play storytellers (teachers), and many of our ministry leaders will be on hand to share how you can serve God in our parish and in our community.

We hope you’ll join us on Rally Day, Sept. 8, as together we continue on our journey to grow in faith. Watch “The Net” for further details.

Golf outing planned for SeptemberRyan Bobay and Carlo Cherubini are looking for golfers to get out and have some fun together. They’re currently looking at Friday, Sept. 27, with the location still to be determined. They expect to know the place, time, and cost soon. The event is open to all members of the church. Please touch base with Ryan at [email protected] or 614-571-2816, or Carlo at [email protected] or 614-327-2317, if you you’re interested. Currently they plan to hold reservations for five foursomes once they have a course, and they’ll need to know by Sept. 4 if they need to adjust that number. More details to come!

Cub Scout Car Wash Saturday, August 24Cub Scout Pack 139, which is sponsored and hosted by St. Andrew’s, will hold a car wash from 9 a.m. to Noon in the church parking lot. Donations will be accepted. Come on out to support our Cubs, and drive away with a clean car!

Harvest Festival vendors & food trucks wanted! The 2019 Harvest Festival is set for Saturday, Oct. 12, and registration for vendors and food truck operators is open!

New this year will be a flea market, with families from the community invited to rent a 10′ x 10′ space to sell their own wares. Think of it as a big neighborhood yard sale! Folks may rent a space individually, or join with another family or two to make this a cost-effective opportunity to clear out their clutter.

The registration fee for vendors, food trucks, and flea market participants is $35. Participants will have the advantage of publicity in local newspapers, on our website and social media, and everywhere our Harvest Festival is advertised, as well as a built-in crowd of potential customers.

In addition, the church will once again be conducting it’s popular rummage sale in conjunction with the Festival. Watch for information about drop-off dates for you tax-deductible donations.

For more information, please contact Rachel Cherubini at 740-548-5112, ext. 1, or [email protected], or pick up a vendor registration form at the Information Desk. And please take some of our cards, also available at the Information Desk, to pass out to vendors and food truck operators at any fairs or festivals you may be attending in the coming weeks!

Making teachers wishes come trueBonnie Freeman and Debbie Sterling (back row, left and second from left), and Patti Cooper (front row, center), members of the St. Andrew’s chapter of the Order of the Daughters of the Holy Cross (DOHC) —along with Patti’s husband Larry (seated at left)—delivered two vehicle loads of items to Delaware County Schools Superintendant Heidi Kegley (back row, right) and staff this past week. “They were appreciative of all the wonderful items we brought them,” Bonnie says. “Praise God for all the generosity others have shown this project!”

The picture at left shows approximately 40 percent of the items donated by St. Andrew’s parishioners to the DOHC’s second annual school supply drive. This year, the Daughters collected a wish list of items from Delaware City Schools teachers, and sought assistance from the parish in fulfilling those wishes. They thank all of you who donated supplies and cash gifts to “help teachers help their students.”
