Message from the President

Hello Sea Pines!

Welcome October!! This is the time of

year that we can enjoy outdoor activi-

ties with lower humidity and cool

nights. We also welcome many

“snowbirds” that are returning back to

Sea Pines after a long summer. They

will find a community that looks great!

I hear this from my neighbors and

many of the new home owners. I can

honestly say that in my four years liv-

ing here in Sea Pines I have not seen

the overall visual appearance look this

nice. I want to give special thanks to

Michelle and Chris Romeo for refresh-

ing our Sea Pines signage. Shown are

just two of the signs that were refur-

bished. Last month we had our annual

Coastal Cleanup event. What a fantas-

tic turnout! A total of 18 people showed

up to help out. We actually ran short of

buckets and grabber tools. Our volun-

teers collected a lot of trash on both

sides of Old Dixie Hwy and a couple of

people took the opportunity to clean out

unwanted stuff from their own home and

bring it to the club house. Unfortunately,

Pasco County forgot to deliver a dump-

ster. That nixed our goal of cleaning out

the back of the club house. Nonetheless,

we staged the trash in the center of the

parking lot and Pasco County had a trash

service haul it away. All is good!

At the membership meeting last month I

asked the question: Should we have a

Christmas party this year? The member-

ship responded in a resounding YES!

Okay. So now we need a volunteer or two

the plan and organize the event. This is a

SPCA sponsored event so you can work

with the board if you need money for deco-

rations, food, and entertainment. If inter-

ested, please contact me so we can set a

date and advertise.

Best Regards,

Randy

PASCO SHERIFF’S OFFICE NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2021

October is National Crime Preven-

tion Month

Much of everyday crime is the result of

opportunity. An unlocked car door or open

window on your home can serve as an invi-

tation to criminals. October is National

Crime Prevention Month and its the perfect

time for citizens to ensure that they are

safeguarding both their property and them-

selves.

Removing all valuables from your car

when you get out of it is a sure way to pre-

vent loss of these items. Items left in plain

view, especially valuable electronics like

phones or laptops, can be tempting for

thieves. Secure these items inside your resi-

dence or bring them with you when you

leave your car, even if it’s just for a few mo-

ments. Thieves can work fast, and often a

car burglary can take place in less than 30

seconds. Be sure to lock your home and car

doors, even if you’re inside. Creating a rou-

tine of doing this each night is a great way

to ensure that you and your property are

safe and secure.

Protecting your home is simple as well.

Ensuring that all locks are working proper-

ly is a smart first step. Keeping a list of

your valuable possessions is important as

well. Make a note of model and serial num-

bers, value and description of items. Consid-

er getting a safe for more valuable items,

such as jewelry or firearms. Keep shrubbery

near windows and doors trimmed so crimi-

nals don’t have a good hiding place as well.

You can also prevent crime when you’re

on vacation! Have a neighbor or a family

member stop by your home when you’re

gone to check the mail and your home. Con-

sider having someone mow your lawn if you

plan to be gone for an extended period. Set-

ting timers for lights is another great idea.

A home that still looks occupied won’t tip

off potential criminals to your absence.

Don’t forget that the Pasco Sheriff’s Of-

fice is here to serve you! If you see some-

thing suspicious, don’t hesitate to give us a

call. Below, you’ll find our non-emergency

phone number. Always call 911 in the event

of an emergency. Connecting with us on so-

cial media is a great way to stay informed

as well. We’re on Twitter, Facebook and In-

stagram. We post crime prevention tips,

community news and alerts.

Preventing crime is easier than you think

and takes just a few simple steps. With the

help of a consistent routine, residents can

help the Sheriff’s Office prevent crime in

their community. Eliminating opportunity

disrupts the triangle of crime, which also

includes desire and ability, and is a smart

step to ensuring you stay safe.

VOLUME XI I I , I SSUE X PAGE 3 SEA P INES NEWS

Happy October Sea Pines!

You may or may not be aware of this, but I

found this very worthy of sharing. There

is an existing pension benefit for some

surviving spouses, and also some eligible

surviving children.

This is great news for those dependent on

their spouse’s income prior to their pass-

ing. The Veteran did have to serve during

a period of war, and the surviving spouse

must be below certain income require-

ments. There is an application process

and some calculations that have to be

done by the Veteran’s Administration

(VA), but in the end it is worth it for this

tax-free benefit. For more information on

this entitlement, go to https://www.va.gov/

pension/survivors-pension/ .

Next, Veterans are trained to carry heavy

burdens, but they don’t have to go through

anything alone. September was Suicide

Prevention Month, but suicides are a prob-

lem every month for Veterans.

There is a new initiative called Reach Out.

Reach Out is a new awareness campaign

from the VA. There are big life moments

like transitioning from the military, start-

ing or retiring from a job, ending a rela-

tionship, or even raising kids can be over-

whelming.

Some warning signs for yourself or family

members to recognize are appearing sad

or depressed most of the time, hopeless-

ness, feeling as if there is no reason to

live, feeling excessive guilt, shame, or

sense of failure, rage or anger, engaging in

risky activities without thinking, losing

interest in hobbies, increasing alcohol or

drug misuse, withdrawing from family

and friends, showing violent behavior,

like punching a hole in the wall or get-

ting into fights, and/or suddenly getting

their affairs in order, tying up loose ends,

or writing a will.

The following signs require immediate

attention: thinking about hurting or kill-

ing yourself, looking for ways to kill

yourself, or talking about death, dying,

or suicide. There are a number of video

stories available from Veterans with sim-

ilar challenges in their past. You can

search out Veterans’ stories by the ser-

vice era, gender, and branch of service.

You can certainly find someone you can

relate to if again facing challenges in

your life. To view other’s stories when

having suicidal thoughts visit

https://www.maketheconnection.net/ .

There is also a Self-Check Quiz you can

take to further assess your individual sit-

uation and this can apply to civilians or

Veterans. Here is the link to the quiz:

https://www.vetselfcheck.org/disclaimer.c

fm . For more overall information, go to

https://blogs.va.gov/VAntage/93997/this-

suicide-prevention-month-reach-out-for-

support/ . Veterans can find help

through VA resources or connecting with

loved ones and fellow Veterans. I have

listed a number of ways to reach out at

the bottom of this article.

Lastly, if you are having immediate is-

sues that do not require calling 911,

please call the Veterans Crisis Line at 1-

800-273-8255 and press 1, or chat online

at VeteransCrisisLine.net/Chat, or you

can text them at 838255. See you next

month and feel free to email me with any

general Veteran’s related questions!

Superior service!

Greg was upfront with selling price and he

was spot on .He kept us informed regarding

offers and pros and cons of accepting them.

My whole family felt comfortable knowing he

was doing his best. I can easily recommend

his service when considering a sale or pur-

chase of property. A very sincere and down to

Working with Gregory

The whole sale of our property was done re-

motely. I never saw Greg in person. However,

he was very professional and helped us every

step of the way. We had a phone conversa-

tion early on before listing our property and

it was obvious he knew his market and

worked from there. I highly recommend

Greg. Verified by RateMyAgent.com—
