5.2 Efforts made by the institution for tracking the progression
The institution has an effective tested and tried hierarchical administrative system for
monitoring and tracking the progression. The institution is headed by the Chairperson and
Managing Trustee. The Chairperson and Managing Trustee is advised by the governing body.
The Chief Executive Officer and the Principal work together and articulate the strategic plan
and the roadmap for attaining the goals and objectives to the IQAC/Deans/Directors/
HoDs/Administrative Officer.
The HoDs implement the plans and monitor the outcomes with the support of year in charges
and tutors. Each class has three tutors to monitor and guide the students.
Tutor-ward Meeting
The students are supported by Tutor ward system. Each class has three tutors and all the tutors
for a particular year of students are co-ordinated by a year in-charge, ie, if there are 3 sections
for II year BE Mechanical Engineering, then each section will have 3 tutors and all the nine
tutors are co-ordinated by a year in-charge. All the year in-charges and tutors support the
students in the curricular, co-curricular, extracurricular activities and competitive exams. The
tutors also deal with the personal problems of the students and in certain cases counselling is
arranged with professional counsellors and HOD. Tutors conduct Tutor-ward meetings
frequently.
Class Committee Meeting
A class committee of at least 6 students comprising of 2 fast learners, 2 moderate learners, 1
slow learner and 1 class representative (generally based on their willingness) is formed.
Additional students are included based on their interest as decided by class advisor after first
internal test. The HoD organizes class committee meetings with a chairperson from the other
department. Feedbacks received along with actions planned are recorded. These are
communicated to the faculty through department wise faculty meetings organized by the
Principal.
Feed Back from Students
Online feedbacks are also obtained from the students twice a semester through google forms
and the same is reviewed by the Principal and the HoD. When the faculty performance is not
upto the mark, the HoD with a senior faculty member evaluate the performance of the faculty
member by attending one or two sessions of his/her lecture and suitable guidance is provided.
When the performance of the faculty is not improved in the subsequent classes, the HoD sends
a senior faculty to that class to teach the students and mentor the faculty who is not performing
to the expected level. The underperforming faculty is also sent to faculty development
programmes.
Faculty Appraisal
Faculty appraisal is conducted by the principal along with the respective department HoD,
during the end of every academic year. Targets are communicated to the faculty and the
attainment of the same is reviewed to improve the overall performance of the institutions as a
whole.

7.3Give two Best Practices of the institution (please see the format in the NAAC Self-
studyManuals)
Best Practice 1:
1. Title of the Practice:AICTE Model Curriculum based Syllabus/ Curriculum
AICTE model curriculum has been designed in such a way that it encourages contribution
towards innovation as the total number of credits have been reduced to pave way for self-
learning and promote inter disciplinary learning. The revised Model Curriculum helps the
students to understand the industry requirements and supports them to have hands-on
experience. Courses on Constitution of India, Environment Science/Engineering and Essence
of India Traditional Knowledge have also been included in the Curriculum. Induction program
is mandatory for first year students included as a part of this Model Curriculum. The curriculum
and syllabus for all departments were totally revamped based on the AICTE model curriculum
during the year 2018.Moreover, internships are made mandatory for all students as part of the
latest curriculum.
Some of the commends/feedback received during curriculum/syllabus revamping as follows.

enhance the knowledge of students and make them industry ready before they graduate.
AICTE has prescribed a guideline for framing the curriculum/syllabus to improve the
overall technical education scenario in the country. SKCET revises its curriculum and
syllabus annually to include the latest developments in the field of technology and
science. This time, the revision of curriculum/syllabus is carried out by obtaining expert
opinion from industries/leading academicians and benchmarking with the guidelines
proposed by AICTE.
3. Context
The revised Model Curriculum helps the students to understand the industry requirements
and supports them to have hands-on experience. Students are encouraged to take up 2 to
4 open electives to promote interdisciplinary learning. A student can even learn the skills
which are not part of the curriculum and the same shall be awarded additional credits.
4. The Practice
The revised model has been designed in such a way that the credits have been
reduced to 165 with a focus on fundamentals and ample opportunities are provided for
students to take up electives both from the discipline and cross discipline to understand
about the latest technological advancements. It was also felt that students should get
holistic education which has components of sports, physical activities, values and ethics.
5. Evidence of Success
Annual revision of curriculum has yielded good result in terms of placements and
employability. CBCS was introduced in the curriculum for 2015-2019 batch for the first
time. This batch is in final year and up to this point 775 students are placed in premier
industries. The present curriculum introduced from the year 2018 includes topics to
enhance employability skills and it also promotes inter – disciplinary knowledge. Hence
it is believing that this latest curriculum will also lead to improvement in placements and
inculcate the qualities of continuous learning.

2. Goal
The goal is to expose students to upcoming technologies and best lectures by
professors/faculty members from premier institutions.
3. Context
Students are advised to select any online course of their choice and will be enrolled for
that course with a duration of either 4 or 12 weeks. Faculty members are also insisted
to enroll for a course pertaining to their field of interest or a course that is relevant to
the subjects they handle in that semester
4. The Practice:
The students attend online classes, classroom tutorials and discussion sessions. At the
end of each lecture, assignments must be submitted in groups under the supervision of
an expert faculty. At the end of the course, the students undergo an examination and
based on their performance, grades are allotted.
5. Evidence of success:
After successful completion of the course, the students gained knowledge on the
emerging area and performed better in their semester exams. SKCET is termed as one
of the ACTIVE local chapters for NPTEL. During the tenure June to April 2018, 1846
registrations were made for NPTEL courses and 1519 candidates successfully
completed their course. SKCET is ranked 16th and 13th in the odd and even semester
exams respectively during the academic year 2017-2018. The college is ranked AA by

Separate storm water drains are being maintained, which collects the excess water from
pathways and pavements.
Check Dam Construction
Groundwater recharge or deep percolation is a hydrologic process where water moves
downward from surface to underground. Recharge is the primary method through
which water enters an aquifer. In our campus rainwater harvesting and recharging of
groundwater is being done through percolation pit and charging bore (using check
dams).
Infiltration of groundwater has been increased by percolation pits and 35 charging bore
holes were constructed across the waterway to improve the groundwater recharge. The
process of ground water recharge through charging bore holes is done by constructing
check dams along the water ways so that the water level can be raised and allowed to
percolate through bore holes.
Charging borehole using Check dam Infiltration Channel
