BURGER CO.

The Club Taree Annual General Meeting was held in May, and I thank all those who took the opportunity to attend, and take part in the democratic process of voting on the various matters put forward. Our business is growing and as such our joint decisions help secure a stable platform on which our Board, Management Team and Staff can act. At the AGM our members voted to install Dot Ludeke as Patron of Club Taree. A well-deserved title for one of our well-loved, respected and most active members. We know that Dot will be a fine representative of Club Taree. In August the Board and Management Team once again met for our six monthly Strategic Planning session. I have previously advocated the importance of these sessions as essential in aligning both the Board and Management Team in a common plan for the future. Our Team not only works hard on the day to day running of Club Taree, but also invests a great deal of time into securing and planning for the future of Club Taree well beyond 2020. These plans cover all aspects of our Clubs operation and our position as a community based asset. In June we moved ahead with the purchase of land on the western side of Wingham Road adjoining our golf course. This land will be land banked for the near future, while plans for the future golf footprint are established. This purchase is a significant investment in the future of golf at Club Taree, along with an investment in a flexible and exciting future for Club Taree.

By now you would have heard about the Dineon19 Burger Co. We launched this concept in July, and your feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The addition of this complimentary food brand has helped attract a new market share of local food spend, whilst also attracting new and returning members to join our Club. We look forward to watching this concept grow in the months and years ahead, and this starts an exciting future for food here at Club Taree. No doubt anyone who visited our Club during the month of July would have seen our Team riding in the 2017 le Tour de Taree. I personally know the amount of work that goes into this event behind the scenes, and I also know how passionate our Team is to make this event a huge success. The commitment of all those involved is once again to be congratulated, and together they have raised $22,531.40 for Ronald McDonald House Northern NSW. Over the last three years we have built up a solid relationship with RMHNNSW, and our Team looks forward to offering continued support well into the future. In July our Team was recognised as a finalist in the ClubsNSW Clubs and Community Awards. These awards celebrate the contributions that Clubs make to their communities throughout the year. I would like to congratulate the Club Taree Community Team on their nominations in the categories of Health & Wellbeing and the Heart of the Community. Club Taree is one of only 15 Clubs across the state to be nominated in two categories in the 2017 Awards.

The nominations are again a testament to the commitment and enthusiasm of our Team in supporting our community. We are looking forward to the Stacks Finance 2017 Legends Pro Am on the 1st December. The committee is working hard to make this event a huge success. We are once again reassured by the amount of support this event is garnering within the golfing and local communities. As mentioned in the previous edition this event will help build the profile of golf, our Club facilities along with the Manning Valley as the host venue of quality sporting events. Once again, thank you to our major sponsor, Stacks Finance in their commitment to supporting our community.Feedback on our current member’s promotion, Car for Christmas has again been very positive. We are looking forward to giving away the stunning Holden Cascada to one of our members in December, just in time for Christmas. To date this has been our most engaged member’s promotion, with more entries week on week than any other promotion we have run. As always we look forward to welcoming you here at Club Taree over the coming months and we thank you for your continued support and patronage.

Kind Regards Geoff Watman President

Here at Club Taree we are looking forward to spring. Spring often brings a renewed freshness after what can be considered a winter hibernation. Springtime is always a popular time here at Club Taree, beautiful weather proves ideal to play our favourite game (golf), while extended daylight offers the opportunity to catch up with friends, family and colleagues socially. Spring also announces the unofficial start to the function season, with weddings, parties, celebrations, and special events filling our functions calendar through until the end of the year.

CEO’s report

spring

The le Tour de Taree is our favourite event of the year due to its ability to garner the support of our members, guests and community along with the natural enthusiasm it creates amongst our Team. The le Tour de Taree is a perfect example of what the Club Taree Community Team aims to be. It creates a sense of community, it allows a team to work together to achieve a common goal, it supports families in need through the provision of welfare, and it creates engagement with our members and guests. Congratulations to our Team for another fantastic event, and to our supporters for raising $22,531.40.

In this issue you will read about our spring beef partnership with Linga Longa Farm Wingham. We have been

working behind the scenes with Lauren and Greg to offer a quality locally produced product. Sarah, our Head Chef has developed three feature dishes which will appear over each of the springtime months, purchasing these dishes will offer the opportunity to enter a mid-week farm stay at Linga Longa.

Spring brings an exciting calendar of events which includes the Club Taree turns PINK campaign and the new spring menu. We are also hosting John Williamson and Charmaine Wilson for shows during October and are also looking forward to hosting the BRYSON CHALLenge on the 28th October.

As a White Ribbon Ambassador, I am hosting a White Ribbon Golf Day

to be held here on Wednesday 22nd November. This event will be held in proud partnership with Taree Women’s Golf and will be a fundraising event for the Taree Women’s Refuge.

As always I offer my personal thanks to you, our Members. Your continued association with Club Taree allows us to maintain our presence as the premier hospitality venue in the Manning Valley, something that we respect and work each day to maintain. My condolences to members who have lost loved ones, and please take care of yourselves and each other.

Morgan Stewart ACCM, AFAIM, CAHRIChief Executive OfficerClub Taree

Thank you to all of our Members who took the time to renew their memberships during the renewal period, we take great pride in the renewal rates that we continue to hold year on year as it highlights the value our Members see in what we do and how we do it.

We are looking forward to spring, with much on offer to entertain and reward our current Members, while also offering an incentive for new Members to join our great Club. The Car for Christmas continues, we are also introducing a new ‘Thursday is Earnsday’ promotion, kids eat free on Thursdays, a beer and burger promotion and also reducing the cost of our daily lunch specials to $10 for our Members.

Club Taree has been announced as a finalist in the Clubs NSW Clubs and Community Awards, being listed as a finalist of awards that acknowledge our people, and their authentic sense of community is something that should be celebrated. The Club Taree Community Team have, over the last two years, made a tremendous contribution to our Community across the 51 events in which they have been involved. The success of the Club Taree Community Team is a true testament to our Team’s collective awesomeness, and the alignment they have with the Clubs values. The Club Taree Community Team wouldn’t have the impact it has managed to achieve without the culture of cooperation, achievement and humanity it has fostered.

In July Club Taree was listed as a finalist in two catering categories and one restaurant category of the 2017 Savour Australia Restaurant and Catering Awards for Excellence. Club Taree’s nominations as finalist in the three categories is a direct reflection on the professionalism of our dedicated Team. We are proud of our diverse and experiential catering options, all of which offer our members, guests and wider community a quality product locally, delivered with genuine country hospitality. These nominations allow us to celebrate our Team, our products and the service we offer. Nominations of this nature are not possible without the thousands of function attendees and restaurant patrons that Club Taree welcomes every year.

Our Team is consistently working on ways to help carry our business forward, and we continue to consolidate after a slow start to 2017 due to the large levels of rainfall we experienced earlier in the year. We also continue to pay down past accrued expenses relating to the motel project which has now been ‘parked’ and on a more positive note have been able to purchase land adjoining our course out of cash flow to allow for future plans.

At the 2016 Annual General Meeting held on the 14th May 2017 Dorothy (Dot) Ludeke was appointed as Patron of Club Taree. I asked some of the Club Taree Team for words to describe Dot Ludeke, of which I have put together; “Dot Ludeke is kind hearted, passionate, hardworking, energetic, positive in nature, with a can do attitude, she is a loyal supporter, a strong and generous woman, and an all-round good friend. Dot could be considered a direct reflection of the heart and soul of Club Taree. Dot can only be described as a stalwart of Club Taree, and previous to that the Taree RSL Club, working tirelessly throughout her 26 year tenure (1990 – 2016) as a Director.Dot has also been the Chair of the Club’s Activities Council and served on the Disciplinary Committee. Dot is a former Secretary of the Clubs NSW Far North Coast Southern Region and a Foundation Member of the Club Directors Institute. Dot has actively been involved with all aspect of ‘Club life’ at Club Taree and we believe Dot will prove to be a positive reflection of our values and culture to the wider community, and a fantastic representative for our members.

If you visited the Club during July you would have seen one of our #awesome team members in their yellow shirts riding in the le Tour de Taree. This year 45 team members collectively rode 3540km to raise $22,531.40 for Ronald McDonald House Northern NSW. This brings our three year fundraising total to $60,966.95 for the event.

We are continually humbled by the support this event brings from all areas of our Club Community. Without the support of our members, guests, and community this event would not be possible. The Club Taree Community Team would like to thank Taree Holden for their $4112 donation and Anytime Fitness for their continued support in lending our team the spin bikes to complete the challenge.

Several years later, as global trade picked up, seafarers brought this idea back to the port city of Hamburg, Germany, where the Deutschvolk decided to mould it into a steak shape and add heat to the equation, making something that, outside of Hamburg, was referred to as “Hamburg steak.”There are currently three major claims staked on the confusing and contradictory map of American hamburger history. Each has its adherents and detractors. They are:Louis’ Lunch: This New Haven, Connecticut, burger joint claims to have invented our favourite lunchtime (and dinnertime) meal in 1900. From its website: “One day in the year 1900 a man dashed into a small New Haven luncheonette and asked for a quick meal that he could eat on the run. Louis Lassen, the establishment’s owner, hurriedly sandwiched a broiled beef patty between two slices of bread

and sent the customer on his way, so the story goes, with America’s first hamburger.”“Hamburger Charlie” Nagreen: It’s said that he started selling meatballs at the age of 15 at the summer fair in Seymour, Wisconsin. But, homeofthehamburger.org says, “Charlie was a resourceful young man with an outgoing personality. After not experiencing much success selling the meatballs he had an idea and located some bread. He realised people could take this meal with them if he simply smashed the meat together between two pieces of bread. He called it a “hamburger” and yes, in 1885 the burger was born at the fair in Seymour, Wisconsin.”Menches Brothers: The brothers’ descendants, who now operate a small chain in Ohio called, not surprisingly, Menches Bros. claim that their great-grandfather and his brother (Charles and Frank, respectively) invented

the dish at an 1885 fair in Hamburg, New York. The brothers originally sold sausages but ran out and were forced to use ground beef, which at the time was considered declassé. John Menches, in a Businessweek story, says, “Faced with nothing to sell at all, they fried [the ground beef] up, but it was too bland. My grandfather decided to put coffee, brown sugar, and some other household ingredients in it and cooked up the sandwich. My great-uncle Frank served the first sandwich, a gentleman tasted it and said, ‘What do you call it?’ Uncle Frank didn’t really know what to call it, so he looked up and saw the banner for the Hamburg fair and said, ‘This is the hamburger.’ “So who invented the hamburger? Take your pick. We’re too ground down at this point to choose.

In July we introduced you to the Dineon19 Burger Co., offering our

tribute to the American burger experience. It’s no secret that Australians love burgers. We

consume 300 million burgers every year and so far your feedback on

our burgers has been fantastic. Our love of burgers is only rivalled by the Americans, who consume 50 billion burgers every year. 71% of all beef

consumed in America is in the form of a burger – now that’s commitment

to the awesomeness of burgers.

Did you know the Dineon19 Signature Shake combines full cream milk with 7 (yes 7) scoops of quality ice cream, we then add the flavour of your choice, along with malt (if you choose), served to you in a icy cold stainless steel shake cup. Get one today at the Dineon19 Burger Co.

an abridged history of the hamburger

The history of the hamburger is truly a story that has been run through the meat grinder. Some sources say it began with the Mongols, who stashed raw beef under their saddles as they waged their campaign to conquer the known world. After time spent sandwiched between man and beast, the beef became tender enough to eat raw.

Linga Longa Farm is a lush property at Wingham in the picturesque Manning Valley, run by Greg and Lauren Newell. With the scenic backdrop of the Comboyne Mountains, their green alluvial flat pastures provide for their prime Herefords. They are a 100% Australian owned and operated business with a long family history in Hereford cattle production. This history has seen many generations constantly improving on farming practices.Greg and Lauren pride themselves in producing the highest quality MSA graded beef that directly meets customer needs. The cattle are pasture-fed, using a traditional rotational grazing system and their animals are cared for throughout their lifecycle. They pride themselves on being able to trace their beef from conception to consumption and this is part of the reason they believe you can ‘Taste the Difference’.

They employ sustainable and ethical agricultural practices at Linga Longa and do not use artificial growth stimulants or anti-biotics in their production. In 2012, they were one of the first producers to be accredited by the Cattle Council with Pasture Fed Certification because they do not supplement their herd with grain. In 2010 with Lauren’s media-advertising background and Greg’s knowledge of the beef industry the Buymeat brand was established. Initially selling online locally, they now travel each week to Farmers markets in Sydney to sell their certified grass fed beef. Consumers are becoming more aware and wanting to know where their food comes from, in talking direct to the farmer they can ask questions from the person who grew it. Their philosophy of sustainability is to educate consumers of the need to eat “the whole beast” from nose

to tail, as a beast is not just made up of scotch and eye fillet. Secondary cuts like Beef Brisket being featured for the month of September are full of flavour, tender and lends itself to many cuisines and cooking methods. As a result of their customer service and quality product they recently won the “Peoples Choice Award” at the Mid Coast Business Awards.Linga Longa also offer cottage accommodation on the farm where you can come and see where your food is grown, talk to the farmers and enjoy the peaceful surrounding farm life brings.Lauren and Greg are delighted to be able to partner with Club Taree to bring local produce direct to its clientele. Customers can buy this quality grass fed beef for home by visiting the website: www.buymeat.com.au

Spring is a time to celebrate, we come out of hibernation and start to venture outdoors a little more. We take the time to catch up with friends and family and acknowledge how beautiful the outdoors is during this season. To our tables we welcome an inspiring range of fresh produce which grows after the cool winter months, and as a result our cooking styles and menus become a lot more exciting. Aligned with our passion for food, our kitchen team is delighted to present you our spring menu from Monday 4th September.

Linga Longa Showcase DishesFor every Linga Longa Showcase item sold members and guests will have the opportunity to enter a monthly draw to win a 3 night mid-week farm stay at Linga Longa Farm for two people. This year is just flying. Where are the days going? It seems like only yesterday that we were finishing the last of our functions for 2016 and taking a big deep breath but now, I am already talking about Christmas.Christmas really is such a special time of the year. A time to spend with our family, create magical memories that will be with us for the rest of our lives, the time that we all make a special effort to catch up over a drink or a meal. It is also the end of a work year, where we can get together with our work mates and bosses, let our hair down and momentarily leave the work place behind, maybe even sharing a drink and a meal together.Christmas can also be a time to catch up with our friends. Maybe you are

a group of mothers who have a play date with the children each week but for Christmas leave the children behind, bring the partners (or leave them behind too), arrange a sneaky cocktail or two and snack on canapes in the Secret Garden - an adults only area where the only noise you can hear is that favourite song playing in the background. It could be a group of 30 friends for drinks and canapes on our Terrace, a smaller private dinner for 18 in the Chefs Table or a three course dinner for everyone you know in the Auditorium that seats 400 – regardless of your size, we are able to satisfy your needs. You may in reading this column think that I have stepped ahead of myself with all this talk about Christmas. I haven’t, because now is the right time

to be thinking about all your Christmas celebrations, and how Club Taree can meet your needs. We have so many options to suit all corporate, workplace, and social Christmas occasions – and they need to be booked now. Some dates are already booked out in the lead up to Christmas - especially on the Saturdays (truth be known many people book their Christmas functions over a year in advance with us). So not to be disappointed, please email me at [email protected] or ring me on 6539 4000 to secure your date and venue.I would love to share your Christmas event with you.

functionswith Lisa

Club Taree has four main venues, each catering for a different clientele.

The Secret GardenAccess into this haven is through a garden gate that opens to a delightful garden with its own private bar and wait staff. Where is it exactly you ask? Shhhh.. that is the secret. Holding up to 30 people, this is an adult’s only venue.

The TerraceRuns along the back of the Club with views over the golf course. This venue can hold up to 70 people and has a variety of catering options available. Whether it is a selection of canapes, one of our buffets or exclusively hiring the area and having your guests order their own meals from Dineon19, the choice is yours.

The Chefs TableThis is a smaller, more intimate, private dining area which can hold up to 18 people. Meals are chosen from our Dineon19 or Dineon19 Burger Co. menu and one of our trained waitpersons will host you for the night.

The AuditoriumClub Taree’s main function area. This is one room which can be divided into smaller areas depending on the size of your requirements. Mainly used for the traditional Christmas function with either a buffet or alternate drop with round tables and white cloths. The Auditorium has its own bar and can seat 400 banquet style.

PINK high tea

This is one of our favourite fundraising initiatives. Every day during October one female diner at Dineon19 will be chosen at random to have the cost of her meal donated to the Club Taree turns PINK Campaign. The meal is served on a “Pink Plate” and the recipient is given a certificate outlining the difference that they have made. Club Taree will make the donation on her behalf. Keep an eye out each day during October to see who is chosen and join in celebrating the difference they have made simply by enjoying a meal at Dineon19. It is a really engaging way to involve our diners in the campaign, while allowing Club Taree to make a positive difference.

He is firmly cemented in the nation’s musical culture, his impressive career spans more than forty years. His unofficial anthems, tributes to legends and unsung heroes and tender ballads have captured the spirit of the nation in song unlike any other. Add to this his ability to deliver unforgettable live concert experiences that combine the perfect blend of humour, romance and campfire stories woven together by his music. You can understand why he is one of the most in-demand live performers in Australia. There is no question that JOHN WILLIAMSON is the real deal, stands by what he represents and is unashamedly proud of the country he loves. For this artist, whilst the awards are a nice recognition, there is no doubt it is the reaction from his audience that is the most important. It all started when he penned that classic OLD MAN EMU back in 1970. From this ‘silly’ song (as he often refers to it) that went to #1 for five weeks, he has continued to create hits including TRUE BLUE, COOTAMUNDRA WATTLE, RIP RIP WOODCHIP, RAINING ON THE ROCK, THE BIG RED, WINTER GREEN, SALISBURY STREET, GALLERIES OF PINK GALAHS and HAWKESBURY RIVER LOVIN’ to name but a few of the 400+ songs written by the multi-award winning songwriter. Inducted into the prestigious ARIA HALL OF FAME in 2010 along his journey he has also secured three ARIA Awards, 25 Golden Guitars, MO Awards, APRA Awards, Platinum and Gold albums and over 4 million album sales to name just some of the recognition he has earnt. You can call him what you want, Mallee Boy, True Blue or just plain Fair Dinkum; but there is no denying that after more than forty years in the music industry, John Williamson is truly an Australian icon. Whilst he is ingrained in Australia’s history, he continues to prove he is also ingrained in its future. At the age of 71, John continues to write music and tour the country.

Instagram photosIn a modern world social media is king. Instagram is perhaps the most used of all photo sharing apps. Instagram has been around for a few years and all the “cool kids” have been using it for just as long. Its kind of like Facebook (but way better – editor’s note!) as it relies on the visual (photographs). It is the perfect app for photo sharing, photo viewing and generally keeping up to date on the happenings of your children, grandchildren, family and friends. Here are Pauls top tips on taking Instagram photos. • Use your phones camera rather

than the Instagram app – it allows you to take more images and that way you can choose the best photo to upload.

• Steady your phone (especially when light is low) – rest your arms on a solid surface if possible.

• Watch your background and your foreground. Dirty dishes or the ironing piled up in the background aren’t adding anything to your shot.

• Try new things – up close and angled is always awesome on Instagram, move things around in your shot to make your picture A1, use sunlight, shadows and almost anything that you normally wouldn’t.

• Say no to the zoom. Resist the temptation to zoom on your phone. Most phones have great cameras these days – but none of them are noted for their ability to zoom. Don’t be afraid of telling a bigger story by not zooming.

• Be wary of the flash – turn it off and use the light that’s around you.

• Tap the screen – this allows you to focus. Tap different parts of your scene (before you take the photo) to get different effects, and see which has the best result.

• Don’t over edit – please don’t over contrast your image, or over filter – in most cases images need minimal effect. On the other hand don’t be afraid to add a filter – a simple filter can add drama to your photo.

• Break the rules – be unique and different – take photos of things you normally wouldn’t, upload images that would never usually see the light of day, upload photos of people you love and things you like.

• Create your own brand for your images – together the images in your Instagram profile tell your story. Use the same filter to create uniformity, or the same style of photographs.

• Have fun – don’t overthink anything, people will love your images, because they are your story.

Photography is more popular now than ever, with hundreds of ways to share our snaps with our friends, family and indeed the world instantly. In fact millions of photos are uploaded every minute across the world. We like, share and comment on these images because we love what we see. Wonderful things happen around us all the time, but capturing that moment is the key. Many argue that the most important aspect of photo taking is

vision. Vision could also be considered imagination, or the ability to see. Others argue it’s about the equipment. One thing is for sure, photos capture our hearts for the beauty they capture, the moments in time they hold and the memories they create. People are often asked the question, “If your house was on fire what would be the first thing you would save?” (Of course after family, friends and pets), most often the answer is “photographs”.

The value that these simple little pieces of paper have is immeasurable for their ability to recount our lives, and those of the ones we love, their ability to take us back to exotic destinations or remind us of people and things now gone. Photos have the ability to make us cry, to make us smile, laugh, dream, hope and remember.

Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught in a photo is captured forever… it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.

Australia is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Our land down under has no shortage of opulent beaches, sweeping deserts, dense rainforests and endless valleys – thousands of landscapes just waiting to be photographed.

Landscape photography shows spaces within the world, sometimes vast and unending, but at other times microscopic. Landscape photographs typically capture the presence of nature, but can also focus on manmade features.

As you can imagine there are thousands of websites about photography and thousands more about the ideal photography destinations. Here is our top list of landscape destinations to photograph in Australia:

Gary tell us a little about yourself.I spent my youth in Bass Hill, then moved to the Bermagui area for 30 years, where I had a business, then I moved to Canberra. I worked for Deanes Transport there for 8 years. From there I moved to the beautiful Manning Valley where I enjoy the countryside and the people. Where is your favourite place to visit?Hill End – it is an historic goldmining town near Bathurst, where the Australian Gold Rush began in the 1850’s. There are plenty of museum displays, heritage buildings, tours to take and the most striking landscapes.

What is your dream destination? My dream holiday would be to drive Route 66 (Los Angeles to Chicago) in a Mustang or alternatively explore the Italian countryside What do you do on your days off?I like to garden, go sightseeing, repairing anything old, or recycling anything old into something new. Favourite Sport to Watch?Any form of motor racing.Favourite television show?At the moment it’s a catch up on “Australian River Cottage”, as I lived in that area for 30 years. Australian River Cottage is an Australian adaptation of the English franchise. The series sees former chef Paul

West showcase local produce and farming while attempting to live in a self-sufficient manner. The show is on The Lifestyle Channel.

As you know, here at Club Taree the community holds a special place in our hearts – it’s just part of who we are. Sometimes our Community reaches to the edges of the Manning Valley and far beyond, other times it’s a little closer to home. The BRYSON CHALLenge celebrates the awesomeness of Bryson Challacombe, the much loved son of Lisa Ruprecht (our Functions Coordinator), by raising funds for Redkite, who supported

Bryson, Lisa and the rest of his family during his cancer journey. We know the amount of support this initiative already garners within our community, but anything that we can do to help celebrate Bryson by supporting Redkite on the 28th October we will. It’s a fine example that sometimes it’s our own little community that should be celebrated and supported.

The BRYSON CHALLenge

28th October 2017Club Taree

My brother, Bryson, was a generous, loving, big hearted kid who was quickly growing into an admirable young man. He was part of a big family – a mum, a dad, a stepdad, 4 sisters and 2 step-sisters who loved him. He had a wonderful group of friends and most of the Taree community seemed to know and like him. Bryson is someone we never want forgotten. On the 10th May 2012 Bryson - aged 19, young and enjoying life - was diagnosed with a form of cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma - a tumour in the

cavity behind his left eye. The outlook was positive and an intense treatment schedule of chemotherapy and radiation commenced. All the updates were encouraging and the months were being counted until life could be enjoyed to its full extent again. But this never came and 6 months after diagnosis, on the 14th November, Bryson fell into a coma and passed away the next day – it came as a complete shock.

Redkite is an Australian cancer charity providing essential support to children and young people (0–24 years) with cancer, and the family and support network who care for them.• They are there for children and young people (24 and under) from diagnosis, throughout treatment, and after treatment

ends. Their support includes: • Financial assistance to cover essential costs• Information, counselling and group support• Support to keep education and career goals on track • Support through grief and loss• Diagnosis support packs for children and young adults• Support in hospital through social workers and music therapists• Redkite receives no government funding and relies entirely on the community to provide these important services

Since the moment Bryson was diagnosed with cancer, a group called RedKite had been there both for Bryson and my whole family. They provided unconditional support emotionally, physically and financially, and we cannot thank them enough for everything they have done.My name is Louise, and I am writing on behalf of ‘The BRYSON CHALLenge’ – a fundraiser my family started to honour my brother, Bryson Challacombe. In 2013, with the support of friends, family, the local community and the wider community, we successfully held our first fundraising event where we saw over $50,000 raised directly for RedKite. Since then a number of smaller events have been held, all continuing to raise much needed funds. An amazing part of this was a celebrity football match organised

by Manning in Motion and saw the likes of Danny Buderus and Arlene ‘Angerfist’ Blencowe lace up their boots as well as the annual Bryson Challenge Shield game created by the two soccer teams my brother played for.The 8th June 2013 saw over $50,000 raised for RedKite by The BRYSON CHALLenge. On the 28th October 2017 Bryson’s family plan to beat this and to do so, we need your help.It has been nearly 5 years since Bryson’s passing and therefore, in honour of his memory, we are holding another larger event raising funds for RedKite to help them continue to provide the same level of support for all families in need. This fundraising event will consist of a Trivia Night as well as both a live and a silent auction being run concurrently. The night will be held on the 28th October 2017 at Club

Taree and we are hoping to beat our current fundraising record. We invite you to join in the celebration and memory of Bryson’s life and to raise much needed funds for RedKite by donating services, products, sponsoring a table or simply buying tickets to attend the event. Tickets for the event will go on sale from the 1st September 2017. Our family would be most grateful if you could support us with any of the above or even if you have any other ideas on how you might be able to assist our cause. No support is too small.

If you wish to make contact, we are available via email on [email protected] or there is also facebook (don’t forget to like our page!) – www.facebook.com/TheBRYSONCHALLenge

Exciting times are on the horizon here on the golf course at Club Taree. As the weather starts to warm up it’ll bring all the colours of the gardens out as well as warm up our growing mediums to bring our warm season grasses out of dormancy and therefore improve turf coverage and the overall presentation. One thing we do here as the temperatures start to improve is remove all unwanted algae and organic matter that accumulated through the colder wetter months where the evaporation rate was too low to dry anything out 100% by opening up the surfaces be it with a slicing machine on the fairways to help air get into the profile or a coring machine that we will put over our greens to remove old material and replace with new fresh sand. We replace with new fresh sand because of the particle size of sand as opposed to organic material or soil which will provide more pore spaces giving water and plant roots more opportunity to move down through the profile, giving us a healthier sward of turf and a drier surface allowing for better playing conditions.Fairways will be a priority as we get into the warmer months with the dam being at full capacity due to us catching a lot of the rainfall from the first half of the year. We will be introducing a range of High Nitrogen/Phosphorus fertiliser to really improve growth. Our irrigation will be set up into individual areas such as high, medium and low priority for consistent

uniformity over the different profile layers on the golf course. Come early December when we are hosting our first Legends Pro Am the place will be in pristine condition making it a successful event and one we can get back year after year.Another thing we start to focus heavily on as the soil warms up is our full course herbicide and Insecticide applications for any unwanted weeds or pests that arrive in the bare areas that are produced through the colder dormancy months. In the long run we will only allow desired species seed heads to sprout and produce the plants we want to be maintaining.Last but not least is the focus and preparation of our machinery fleet for the mowing season, as all these practices are applied and things start to grow. This includes grinding blades, replacing bed knifes, staff training and being ready for whatever conditions mother nature sends our way.

Did you know that Club Taree has a fantastic range of Internal Clubs? Each Internal Club offers something different and may align with one of your special interests, or provide the opportunity for you to learn a new skill, visit a new destination or meet new friends. Each of our Internal Clubs is always excited to welcome new members.

Our Internal Clubs include:

Each year Club Taree provides a range of support to our community, whether it be through donations, support, and sponsorship or in kind contributions. We are extremely proud of this support that we offer, and are constantly looking for additional ways to offer support. In March 2016 Club Taree changed its Friday Night Raffle to become the Club Taree Community Raffle. Each Friday we hand over the raffles to a different

community group, organisation, charity or project team. Club Taree donates any profits from the raffle to that week’s corresponding organisation, charity, group or team. It is a great way for any organisation, charity or group to raise extra funds to support a project, campaign or build support. It is also a great opportunity to engage with a different audience. If you think we could help your organisation, please contact Paul

Allan our Brand and Communication Manager who will be able to schedule into our Friday Night Raffle Calendar. Take a look at the spring roster, we encourage you to come along and support these organisations where you can. The more raffle tickets sold, the more profit they take home, the better the community benefits. Contact Paul AllanPhone 02 6539 4000Email [email protected]
