Mitchell Brown the 2019 Roma Liggins winner at Taree Eisteddfod My name is Mitchell Brown and I am a musician. I entered my fi rst eisteddfod when I was only 4 years old in what was then the Early Childhood Section. I began competing in the piano and electric piano sections at age 9, and instrumental sections on clarinet from age 12. Over the years I have performed in more than 100 sections. Each year I would be honored with an invitation to perform the Grand Concert where the “Roma Liggins Scholarship” would be awarded to the most outstanding performer across the entire eisteddfod. The winner would receive a cash prize, but more importantly, their name would make the honor roll that hangs above the main entrance doors to the MEC theatre. There are many names on that board of people I now know as outstanding musicians, composers and educators, including my piano teacher Andrew Chubb. It was always my ultimate goal and after 4 years of nominations I was awarded the “Roma LIggins Scholarship” in 2019. It was indeed an honor.Performing in the eisteddfod has made me the musician I am today. It is a wonderful, supportive environment where I learnt the art of performance, refi ning my musicianship and skills, exploring new styles, learning to play both solo and ensembles, as a lead and as an accompanist. It taught me resilience, discipline and the rewards that come from hard work and striving to improve. I always enjoyed catching up with the other musicians who performed. It was here I found my tribe – a group of people my own age who enjoyed music the way I did. I met so many amazing musicians who visited our eisteddfod as adjudicators. The adjudicators report was always the most prized item. The professional development I received in those reports were worth more than gold.Next year I will study start my Bachelor of Music in Composition at Sydney Conservatorium and work as a professional musician with the Australian Army Band. I would like to thank everyone at Taree and District Eisteddfod, who are all volunteers organizing this wonderful event. To the sponsors, the teachers, the fellow performers and the helpers. THANK YOU. For the scholarships, the amazing support, recognition and encouragement, and most importantly the experiences and memories I will cherish for the rest of my life.

YOUR WILL CAN HELPThe Eisteddfod Society is delighted to give its time
voluntarilyto stage the Eisteddfod.
Did you know it now costs over $100,000 annually to stage?
In trying to keep costs to entrants as low as possible, we seek your assistance in raising money to fund a
successful future.
Leaving a bequest to the Eisteddfod will ensure that the competitors we support get every opportunity
to achieve their dreams.
Example of a bequest:“I give $.....................................................................................to the Taree & District Eisteddfod Society Inc. for the running costs of the Eisteddfod”
Thanks for helping the youth of today go forward with
confi dence to make a difference tomorrow.
Let your Will be done!
